The Berkshires are a glorious destination year round and The Wainwright Inn is the perfect place to launch your vacation. Tanglewood is just minutes away with summer concerts and picnics on the lawn. Enjoy performances by top name performers at the Berkshire Theater Festival, Shakespeare and Company, or the Barrington Stage Company. For the golfers in the family The Egremont Country Club features a challenging 18-hole golf course. A twenty-five minute drive and a small hike takes you to Bash Bish Water Falls. Visit The Berkshire Botanical Gardens and educate yourself and you children about the plants that thrive in the Berkshires. A twenty minute drive takes you to The Prime Outlets at Lee which offers great shopping at discounted prices. The Berkshires are home to nearly one hundred restaurants, including many fine dinning experiences. Canoeing, swimming, fishing, and horseback riding, are also available in the Berkshires. Take long summer walks or just a relaxing drive through the lovely countryside. Winter means skiing and crisp country air. The Inn is within minutes of downhill skiing at Catamount, Ski Butternut, Otis Ridge and Bousquet. The Berkshires also have miles of cross-country ski trails graded for all levels of ability. Spring means refreshing walks through the countryside, watching the woods turn green again. Stop into one of the many antique shops, auction houses or art galleries, most of which are open year round. Or shake off those winter doldrums with a spring weekend spent quietly rocking on our porch listening to the birds. Autumn brings flaming color to the hills, and our foliage season is packed with harvest cornucopia of activity. Fairs and seasonal events abound, and roadside stands are bursting with produce and cider. Pick your own apples at a local orchard, or hike through one of our many back roads and parks. Fall is a great time to visit Hancock Shaker Village or the nearby Norman Rockwell Museum. During the warm summer months you can swim in a nearby lake or stream. Take a hike to Bash Bish water falls and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Relax on our wrap-around porches with a cool drink, or just relax inside with the comfort of air-conditioning.

Detailed Reviews
My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We had an issue with the hotel we were supposed to stay at and called the Wainwright and they were able to accommodate us. We really lucked out because this B&B is awesome.
The couple that owns the Wainwright is super nice and hospitable; they made us feel right at home. The Inn has beautiful decor and old fashion charm, but with modern amenities. Our room had a small TV with Netflix access, a comfortable bed, and AC. But, it also had antique furniture and all sorts of cool old books to look at.
The home cooked breakfast each morning was delicious! We were able to eat outside each morning spaced out from other guests. Also, everyone wore masks in common areas and hand sanitizer was available throughout the inn.
I highly recommend booking here..I'm already trying to figure out when we can go back!

Adding to the picturesque beauty of this quaint New England Town is the Wainwright Inn. Restored beautifully, with period appropriate furnishings that invite your attention at every turn.
Clean, comfortable and alluring is the best way to describe this lovely property.
We were warmly greeted every morning by Chris and Barb, the Innkeepers. The richly appointed dining room was spotless and tables were set with China, silver and linens. Breakfast was served individually, freshly prepared with fresh garden ingredients and specialty items from the area. Our breakfast each morning was delicious and prepared with the same attention that is reflected in every aspect of this delightful Inn. Kudos to Chris and Barb! Excellent job.

Chris and Barbara are exceptional hosts of The Wainwright Inn with attention to every detail. My husband and I are seasoned travelers with dietary restrictions and we were both so well cared for. Chris is a wonderful breakfast chef and had all the specialty foods incorporated into his spectacular breakfasts each day. Fresh berries from the Inn's garden every morning with delicious menus each day delighted all of their guests. We were in Mr. Pope's room for three restful, quiet nights and during the days we hiked nearby trails on Chris' recommendation. Great Barrington is a treasure of lovely restaurants and shops making our trip most memorable. We are planning a future trip to meet our children and their families there to make more memories.

We had a delightful stay at the Wainwright Inn B & B… our room, which overlooked the wildflower garden, was quiet, clean, and comfortable. The room has a very comfortable bed, an electric fireplace, and a small television that I think gets every channel within 5,000 miles. The bathroom has a tub/shower. There is also a walk-in closet with a dresser.
Until we went down to breakfast, we thought we might be the inn’s only guests. The inn is very quiet. We didn’t hear anybody else. The traffic going by on the Main Street through Great Barrington does not make the inn noisy.
The owners, Chris and Barbara, are delightful! They are easy to chat with and they know the area well! They prepare and serve a wonderful breakfast. During our stay the breakfast included fresh fruit, juice, poached eggs served on English muffins with Canadien bacon, home fried potatoes, lemon wine cake, and a bottomless cup excellent coffee.
Their greeter is a very gentle dog!
The well-maintained, historic inn was established 10 years prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Chris and Barbara have owned the inn since 2015. They live on the property.
We will stay here again on our travels through Massachusetts.

A lovely location with even nicer owners. Very comfortable, clean, nice size rooms with ample closet space. Breakfast each day was fresh and tasty, and Barb was able to accommodate our dietary needs. The Inn is located within walking distance to town, and parking is available on site. We had AC, Wifi, and TV in our room.

On our recent travels to the Cape we decided to stop halfway for a break in our 9 hour travel time. The town of Lenox was a perfect halfway point for us. Nestled in the Berkshires on a quite street sits this beautifully restored Inn built in 1766 what a beauty it is. We stayed in the Edison room on the first floor. A very large room with a very comfy queen size bed. Super soft sheets I am a stickler for great sheets. Bottled water and pretty glasses were set out on a pedestal table and a lovely note from the hostess. We had arrived late but she left us the key. We had a good nights sleep and the next morning joined other lodgers in the beautiful bright dining room for a home cooked breakfast of pancakes crispy bacon and diced fresh fruit with just a touch of fresh mint. Fresh brewed coffee awaited us in a carafe on our table. Barb brought us each a piece of lemon blueberry pound cake to finish out our meal, it was yummy. Chris is the designated chef and the pancakes were crispy but tender. Not bad for a retired mechanical engineer. They make the perfect team. Our shower was huge with the choice of 2 different shower heads. The history of the inn is fascinating. I highly recommend a stay here. Super clean, the gardens are full of colorful wild flowers in every color imaginable and the hosts Barb and Chris are super nice.

A really nice stay at the Wainwright Inn with Chris and Barb! This historic Inn is situated right in the heart of Great Barrington in the picturesque Berkshires. My family and I enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the “West Wing”, which is great for a family of four. They was ample seating and relaxing spaces to read a book. Breakfast was fantastic! Loved the lemon cake! The Inn is close to Monument Mountain, great for hiking. It is also a short drive away to Lenox and Stockbridge where the Norman Rockwell Museum is located. We really enjoyed our little getaway!

Our family (ranging in age from 73 to 9) had a wonderful short reunion here. The inn was built in 1766 but is in excellent repair and updated. All the rooms were clean and quiet, despite the inn facing busy Route 7. Our hosts, Chris and Barb, were very gracious and accommodating (e.g., they served breakfast meats but when I mentioned we were almost all vegetarian, they bought plant-based meat for the second breakfast). The breakfasts included gorgeous fresh fruit cups, and eggs one day and pancakes the next. The coffee was excellent, which isn't always the case at B&Bs in my opinion. I highly recommend this place.

The innkeepers are friendly and accommodating. It was such a delight to spend time in their sitting room with a well-attended fire burning in the fireplace. Breakfast is exceptional--I swear the best buttermilk pancakes I have ever had, along with a fresh fruit compote. The inn is well located for walks into the town of Great Barrington with its unique stores and restaurants.
