Briarcliff is an authentic 1960’s motel which has been transformed into a contemporary, stylish motor lodge for the 21st century traveler. Complete with a roaring pellet stove in the lobby common area, a daily rustic continental breakfast and an outdoor fire pit which brings families, friends and strangers together, Briarcliff harkens the return of the great American family road trip. We are located directly across the street from Monument Mountain, one of the Berkshires most popular natural landmarks, five minutes from Great Barrington and Stockbridge, and under 15 from Tanglewood.

My husband and I booked the Briarcliff Motel for a weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary. When we arrived to check in to the motel, at the check in time listed on our reservation, no one was there and the front desk area was closed. There was a sign on the door that said if you needed help to call the Red Lion Inn. I called the Red Lion Inn 3-4 times, no one answered. We drove over to the Red Lion Inn (about 5 min drive) and then waited in a long line to talk to someone at the front desk. The person at the front desk gave me a code that would open the door to our room. I also asked for the manger's contact information at this point and was given her business card. We drove back to the Briarcliff only to find out that this code did not open the door to our room. I called the Red Lion Inn again (no one answered). I also left a voicemail on the manager's direct line. After waiting for a while with no call back we returned to the Red Lion for the second time. At this point, I asked for a refund because after spending an hour just trying to get into our room I wanted nothing to do with this place. Thankfully the woman at the front desk cancelled my reservation and said I would not be charged. I understand that COVID is making staffing both locations difficult, but the communication with guests could very easily be improved. For example, why not just tell guests they will want to check in at the Red Lion Inn rather than having them drive in circles? Also, if a problem like this happens, a simple acknowledgement that it shouldn't have happened would go a long way. We did not get any sort of apology from anyone... we also never got a call back from that manager. I should also mention the website mentions DVDs and lawn games...I can't be sure since we never got in the room, but it seems unlikely we would have been able to access these things. We wanted to stay at the Braircliff partially because these things made us comfortable knowing we would have something to do on a rainy day. Again, this is understandable if these things are not available due to COVID, but this should be updated on the website to make this clear.

We spent three nights at the Briarcliff. We had our two daughters and dog with us. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They provide a simple but nice breakfast. The room was adorable...we had a king bed and our daughters slept on on air mattress. It was a little tight for all of us but we made it work. We enjoyed the area restaurants, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. It was a convenient and quiet location and a very reasonable rate.

We are so happy you had such a good visit with us and that you found the property both family friendly and pet friendly! It sounds like you squeezed in a lot of activities while you were in the area. Our property is in a very convenient location for all outdoor adventures. We hope you come again soon. Every season in the Berkshires is worth exploring! Best, Kylie Hickman

Very cute, clean and comfortable motel that has been redone with a retro vibe. This is not a tacky roadside motel. Great landscaping with birch trees and right down the road from Great Barrington, yet surrounded by woods. The breakfast is very good, with real Greek yogurt and unsweetened granola, hard boiled eggs, delicious baked goods, and coffee. There are other goodies too, but this is what I focused on. Very best of all, there are metal forks, spoons, and knives! And real bowls and mugs (no funky styrofoam). I generated zero trash! Excellent! We have been traveling around for a while now, and finally, I find a hotel that does not generate massive amounts of trash with plastic this and plastic that. (This is a glowing review, but I am not a friend or a relative. :))

Briarcliff is an updated modern representative of the 1960s - era travel motel. Rooms are large and well outfitted, with cool retro touches. Large windows open to the front and back of property. Views of mountain, close to numerous hiking trails and nearby skiing. Evening by the fire pit looked inviting, but weather didn't agree. Complimentary healthy breakfast and welcoming common areas. Friendly and helpful staff.

We stayed here to attend the Norman Rockwell Christmas celebration in Stockbridge. We had stayed at the Red Lion Inn a month earlier, and we found the Briarcliff Motel through some of the literature in our room at the Red Lion. They are managed by the same hotel group. They did such a great job renovating the Briarcliff. It's fun, funky Art Deco. We had 2 rooms, which adjoined, each with 2 beds. They've kept some of the original bathroom fixtures and tiles which is very cool. The rooms were clean, neat and tidy. Beds were comfortable. The room rate includes continental breakfast with homemade scones, juice, yogurt, cereal, and some pretty good coffee (I think it was from the Great Barrington Coffee Company?). The front desk hospitality was top notch. Very friendly and informative! I'd give it 5 stars, but don't want to mislead anyone as to the type of property it is (converted motor lodge vs. hotel/inn). We will definitely be back!

Thanks you so much for such a kind review! We are so delighted that hear the you found us through our sister property, the Red Lion Inn. We hope you enjoyed the Norman Rockwell Christmas Celebration as much as your stay. It is a very special time of year that we look forward too every holiday season. You are correct about the coffee at breakfast. We use Barrington Coffee Roasters. We love supporting our local businesses! We hope to welcome you back soon!
