My growing family has stayed at the Wingaersheek for years. If you're looking for slick & modern, look again. We love that the owners are warm & welcoming & the rooms are homey and feel like Cape Ann.

Stayed for 3 days for a fishing trip. The owners were absolutely wonderful & very accommodating. It is a bit of a smaller room but it was super clean, probably the cleanest room I’ve ever been in. Would absolutely stay again. Easy access to everywhere

This doesn't look like much from the outside but the rooms are lovely and private. WELL WORTH THE STAY. We stopped here as part of a trip to Maine and had a wonderful time. The rooms are homey (if you happen to have an in-house Martha Stewart). There was a great deal of attention to detail that made the stay that much more enjoyable. Best of all, the owners were extremely friendly, helpful and just seemed like great folks. Can't remember a genuine welcome like we received here.

Having traveled all around the world, we have stayed in everything from 1-star to 5-star motel/hotels. The Wingaersheek motel is an over-priced dive of Gloucester. The owner, Roger [--] is a real estate agent who treats this property as if he's a slum lord. He obviously handles several rental properties.

The property is in high need of basic maintenance. The service is one to be desired, mainly from the front office.Had to go to the office and request ice. Upon meeting Roger, I was instructed that his ice maker was jammed and I could go to a convenience store down the road???? Wingaersheek is in the middle of nowhere? Staff doesn't clean coffee maker and seems unmotivated, even though we leave a daily tip. You'll need to pack you own shampoo as the hotel is reluctant to replenish. The decor is in dire need of a makeover. The floor is a death-trip-trap with the novice carpentry exhibited between the faux hardwood and the ceramic tile. The shower is an accident waiting to happen. It has the feel and show of a "good enough for who it is for". For the money, you'd be better off to explore the Castle Manor Inn, (just down the road) or, for off-season stays, the Cape Ann Marina. If visiting during normal season, Bass Rocks Inn is a highly recommended establishment.

As for the bed quality, it's not new hotness. Old and busted appears to be the norm. Mini fridge is on the floor with a microwave sitting on top. A trashy view of a fill pit fills your view from the Itty-bitty rear landing behind the motel. They fail to inform you that there's a fill-pit 50 feet fro the back of the motel that is frequented 12 hours per day by dump trucks. So any piece-and-quiet promised is incorrect.

Any amenities are a joke. Free WIFI should be free, as you hardly ever have a connection. Very frustrating. Drink machine out front is out-of-order. When housekeeping finishes "servicing" your room, expect the temp to be lowered to 55 degrees. It's a norm for the off-season. I believe I've spent more money on an oil-change for my vehicle that the decor in our room.

Please note: this not a review from a rookie Adviser. We always tell it like it is with absolute honestly.

Rooms are charming, quaint and exceptionally clean. Proprietors are friendly and helpful with information about places to see in the area and restaurants. Location is convenient to highway and very close Wingaersheek Beach, easily one of the most beautiful and kid-friendly beaches in the northeast.

Lots of places to stay in the area but we loved this place. Well maintained rooms, exceptionally clean with the delightful aroma of Yankee candle Home from Home. Very pleasant owners who work hard to ensure a memorable stay. Highly recommend this place.

We had saved extra money for our family trip over several years to go this time. We are husband and wife with three children, ranging in age from 11 to 24. We have stayed at several places in Gloucester past 23 yrs.but, this time we decided to choose somewhere else to accommodate our older children. Our choice of stay and reservation were based upon pics and service/ and location and separate rooms via internet here. Reservations and room avail. were right on target for us.The phone calls made to them before-hand, were polite, and answered most of our Q's. We were excited for our trip. Everything,(except the mattresses) the rooms, the service, cleanliness, and mini-kitchen, and bath, were lovely. The previous postings here, had to be before we stayed here, as almost everything has been recently remodeled new. HOWEVER, the only things that were NOT replaced ( AND SHOULD/ HAVE TO BE ) are the bed mattresses! The fold-out couch mattress, and single bed in the living room too. I say "mattresses" however, I use that term loosely, as when we took a closer look under the thin pad, each "mattress" turned out to be very, very used springs with a very thin cotton padding atop, on every bed and couch. They are not "mattresses" at all. They all felt like sleeping on a hard rock, sadly. We stayed for several nights, regrettably - (we had pre-payed and non-refundable). We looked around town for air- mattresses to take back to the rooms, but there were none. We chose to have to use the extra thin room pillows and place them under each of our backs, so we could at least sleep a bit. It did not work well though. Unless, all the mattresses are replaced with at-least four-star ones, we will NOT be coming to stay again. With the ocean air, all the doors are squeaky and are in desperate need of oil- as they awoke everyone going to bathroom and such. Although a tad more pricey, we HAD thought the rooms were going to be larger, but the pics via internet are taken at an angel - so we were slightly cramped. We were in room #10 (2Fl.) The gas fireplace was nice as was the semi-stocked kitchen - which was a very welcoming surprise. All we had to bring was food, which we expected of course.Everything was exceptionally clean in both rooms and bath and kitchen stocked with pots, pans, eating utensils etc. packets, ofcoffee, tea, powered creamer, sugar and coffee maker and microwave (no oven) and a mini-fridge, we stocked well w/ a mini freezer for breakfast treats. New paint and decor was very nice. Almost everything you'll need is supplied, from an pressing iron to hair dryer. If the mattresses HAD been replaced, with top-notch ones, we WOULD of surely given Wingaersheek a five star. We also wanted to note, the owners greeted us a very nice farewell upon our leaving.

We stayed in the Cottage (Room 9), it's quite outdated but well furnished and equipped. Kitchen has utensils / pots / fridge / small coffee maker. We chose this motel for the proximity to Wingaersheek beach and stayed for the night. Bathroom amenities were provided, kitchenette has a table, small deck is unusable as it was too damp and is next to the propane tanks. Overall, good cottage for a short family stay.
