Steps from Good Harbor Beach (#1 Beach in New England 2012). Minutes to downtown Gloucester (America's Oldest Fishing Port) and Rockport. Close to Cape Ann's 20+ restaurants and dozens of shops and galleries, as well as the Rocky Neck Art Colony (America's oldest and continuous operating art colony). Just 55 minutes by car or commuter rail to Boston and less than 2 hours drive from other New England destinations. We're one of the most popular spots on "the island you can drive to" (our section of Gloucester is separated from the Massachusetts mainland by the Annisquam River).

We have been coming back to Blue Shutters for 7 years, sometimes 2 or 3 times a year. Owners have done a great job carving a variety of accommodations out of a wonky, historic building. Prices are more than reasonable given that you are steps away from a magnificent beach (and don't have to pay $30 to park). Gloucester has much to do and see (plus great seafood!), Rockport & Ipswich a short drive away, and Salem, just a 1/2 hour. Owners are so friendly and actually take time to know their guests. We have found our home away from home...

The Blue Shutters Beachside Inn has an incredible location at Good Harbor Beach and is only a short walk to the beach. When we entered the Inn, we thought the spectacular view of the ocean from the Main Room could not be surpassed. However, upon awakening each morning, the view from our room matched if not exceeded it.

The Inn has a fantastic old time charm with really pleasant and clean rooms, but the thing that makes this such a good place to stay is the staff. All of the people are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice. The innkeepers Ed, Tony & Patty) make you feel like you are staying with friends. Their catch phrase of "Welcome Home" is sincere and heartfelt.

Thanks for making our visit to Gloucester that much better. We can't wait to go back!!!

Our first visit to the Inn and we were delighted with our stay. The owners/staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The location (across the street from a beautiful beach) was even better than expected from the pictures. The inn is located at the far end of town and was thus quieter but still very convenient.

Great location, but shabby interior. Bathrooms are small, linoleum covered, airless spaces with no air conditioning. Some rooms must share. No breakfast and little service. It feels like your great- grandmother’s beach cottage without the nostalgia. Worn, mismatched furniture without charm. Good location for the beach. Surprisingly high room rates.

My wife and I have stayed here multiple times. The staff is so welcoming; the rooms are lovely and the location across from the magnificent Good Harbor Beach is amazing. Owners Tony and Ed are so gracious -- we consider our stay so terrific. If you want a lovely experience, you definitely should consider staying here.

The ONLY good thing about Blue Shutters Inn is that it is across the street from lovely Good Harbor Beach. Other than that, you're sleeping on an awful bed with scratchy bedding in a room with dirty 30 year old shag carpeting, broken down furniture and a filthy air conditioner. Your so-called breakfast consists of the likes of Wonder Bread and rotten fruit. It's no wonder the owner insists on payment the moment you arrive. Do yourself a favor--pay a few more dollars, walk a few blocks to the beach. You're definitely worth a good night's sleep in a clean comfortable room.

We arrived on a motorcycle for a romantic 4th of July getaway. When we parked the owner basically attacked us for taking "a whole car spot".
Bad.

If we came in a car we would have taken a "whole car spot"! It got worse -- the inside is drab, dingy and nasty. And our "private bath" is publically accessible and across a hall from our room. Bad.

Our room had shag carpet in it that looked like it came from 1979! I feel mislead by the owners, and my companion and I have never, ever been greeted so rudely. Bad.

We left and found a much nicer place just down the street. This was the worst B&B I have ever seen.

In summary, bad, bad, bad.

Well, I'm sorry to say we won't be going back. 2nd time there and it's just gone so down hill. The rooms are musty and overpriced. Bathroom and shower were awful! And there is a smell in the dining area that's as if something died in a corner and nobody's bothered to look for it.
The "breakfast" consisted of stale ceral and toast. Some fruit, but since you had to eat it in the musty smelling room, we didn't even eat there the last morning. I just wanted to get my kids home into their clean beds. I will say, the location is great, but we looked around at some other places right near there and found them to be cheaper and much cleaner! Sorry. They need to throw $30,000 into the place and clean it up!

This is the worst place I have ever stayed. Five of us paid $1100 for one week in two very small bedrooms with no closets, a toilet that rocked and clogged, a breakfast of soggy cereal, and so many people stuffed into one house that I truly believed there was a bunker underground where people were stashed. This was a terrible experience. The place was so stuffed with junk that you could not comfortably sit anywhere in the communal areas. Out back there was a junk shed that looked like something out of "Deliverance" where the owners kept equipment, and maybe lived. I would recommend that everyone steer clear of this place.

We arrived excited after experiencing a fabulous B&B in Provincetown. What we first saw was an extremely messy yard. Red flag. Location appeared good. We packed up and as soon as we entered we were struck by a stale old house smell. Entering our deluxe room we observed a dated, tacky, noisey dirty carpeted room. The bed was nothing but horrible. We had Dixie cups in the bathroom with paper thin towels. Only two towels!! No tissues, bedside lamp did not work, and sink had permanent rust stain from hot water tap the would not stop dripping. First night we used two wine glasses, the empty one was never removed from our room. The bed had a used Fleecy dryer sheet in it. In the morning you get, coffee in a paper cup and we used sour milk. The food is Costco type various mini things and the fruit is old apples at best. Sorry to say we were happy to move on.
