It all starts with Madison! We never even met but she took care of us in the background the whole way through! I originally booked us in the Roxana building for my wife and I's 7th anniversary. Then, a junior suite with ocean view became available in the historic building and Madison helped me get in there. But that's not where she stopped! Arriving to MV for our first time (slightly bummed due to remnants of Hurricane Ian) we decided to see if we could check in early. Alejandra answered the phone and pleasantly informed us, not only could we check in...but that we had been upgraded to the PRESIDENTIAL SKYROOM!! Ecstatically we race over and Alejandra welcomes us with big warm smiles and puts us in the hands of Brendan as he escorts us up to our room carrying our luggage. Brendan and I hit it off right away and he took care of us literally at every point of our stay. From settling us in our room to serving us at dinner at Bettini's to offering suggestions for our evening. Dinner was another exceptional event as we received a personalized menu with a note for our anniversary. And Hannah became our bespoke chauffeur as she gave us rides around Edgartown in the Mercedes! Probably the sweetest touch we received was again from Madison. After one of our trips out we returned to our room to find a plate full of chocolate covered strawberries on the kitchen island and a personal note from Madison saying she was sorry she missed us but that we would be in good hands and that she hoped we would enjoy our stay. Well Madison, we more than did! And we will be coming back to see and finally meet you all again soon! Harbor View Hotel is literally the best place I've ever stayed. If anything, they are underselling themselves on luxury!

A last minute change in our plans led us to the Martha's Vineyard and, to our great fortune, The Harbor View Hotel. The resort is meticulously maintained and absolutely lovely. We stayed in a two story cottage which was perfect for our family of 5. It offered just enough privacy yet was only feet away from the pool, main hotel, and activities. The staff goes out of their way to make your stay as smooth as possible - without pretense or excessive formality that you'd find in a big city - you really feel they are invested in you having the best vacation possible. This includes the ever-knowledgeable concierge Allison who managed our ferry travel, restaurant reservations, island activities and bike rentals. She is amazing! Kudos also to Valerie in the restaurant for entertaining our kids. Everything was thought of, from the warm welcome we received at check-in with some surprises for the kids to making sure we made it back on the ferry after we checked out. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Bettini, which were the best meals we had on the island. In short, this place is very special. We look forward to returning later in the summer!

What a wonderful week. The Harborview staff make you feel like you own this restored grand dame. They are there to attend to all your requests but never hover. Relaxed but elegant decor with the best views on the island. Allison our concierge made sure that our visit was planned but flexible. We came with friends who had never been to the Vineyard and she made their trip a one in a million experience!

The attention we received from our server, Carmen, was absolutely superior. The menu offerings we selected (especially the crab cake “Starter”) were perfectly prepared and beautifully presented, and they were the most flavorful of any other dinner experience in memory. Dinner was so outstanding we can’t wait for our next opportunity to return.

Great support from a wonderful team of concierge’s. The other staff very pleasant and helpful. Our stay was worry and hassle free. Bertini breakfast staff were great. However the kitchen for lunch at the pool was very slow. Over 30 minutes to cook a a tasty hamburger, salad and salad for 3 people. Manager apologized and comp’d it. We weren’t overly impressed by Bertini for dinner though the one dish Lobster ravioli was excellent. It was more bar than fine dining especially for the prices. Several wines and on the list were unavailable. Remy Martin VSOP also not available. Wait staff did their best to satisfy and were very personable.

The facility is very nice. Don’t make our mistake: if you are on the first floor of the Roxana building, you are on the same level as the pool which means when the pool is open the drapes are closed. Also, ground floor units have no balcony. I think they should mention this at check-in. Speaking of check-in - it was chaotic and a long process. Staff needs some help! Also, there is not enough seating at the pool and, weirdly, the umbrellas are sparse -so prepare to bake. There is no lunch option other than at the pool and there is no vegetarian entree other than a consistently soggy Cesar Salad. At the Bettini restaurant, the service is extraordinary but, again, unless you eat meat/fish you’re out of luck aside from a single pesto pasta dish- which was pretty darn good. The concierge staff was very helpful. Now, for the awkward part. There are A LOT of very loud and very entitled Manhattanites and Connecticut types. They can be loud, overbearing and pushy with the staff and it was discouraging to see because all the staff were really good and happy to make reasonable accommodations. But, alas, they aren’t slaves and they were treated as such. Did I mention they were loud?😀 All in all it is a pleasant place, but at this price point I candidly expected more.

Dear Peter, Thank you for your very comprehensive review of your visit to the Harbor View. Your feedback is much appreciated. We were sorry to read that any of the aspects of your visit was not consistent with your expectations or our very high standards. Please allow me to reassure you that our staff and management hold your needs and expectations at the center of our passion for service. We have followed through with the appropriate department head to ensure a resetting of the standard in each regard you outlined. Also, with regard to the make-up of the guests who visit Martha’s Vineyard; we celebrate the arrivals every day of guests from around the globe, of all walks and backgrounds. We find that guests who frequent the Vineyard value the unique atmosphere of relaxation and comfort our island offers. Guests can find locations for luxury, peaceful reflection, solitude, celebration, and cultures of many diverse communities. Perhaps on your next visit, our concierge can outline a detailed summary for you that would expose you to these different experiences where the island celebrates in a true community fashion. It would truly be our pleasure to prepare this for you. Thank you again for your review and we hope to welcome you back again sometime soon. Scott Little, General Manager Along with the staff and management from over 40 different countries and cultures. We all remain at your service. UPDATE: Trip Advisor, we have received complaints from several guests who deem this review as hostile and discriminatory towards other guests, and not framed as a critique of the hotel. Please consider removing it.

We stayed 4 days over the July 4th weekend. Beautiful and quaint location close to the water and excellent views. We had a junior suite with a balcony (great room) and were able to watch the July 4th parade and the fireworks from our room! The property has been upgraded and maintained extremely well. One gets a great feeling of comfort and history while staying at the hotel! The grounds and flowers are gorgeous ! Most of all, we found the service was impeccable! Scott Little, the GM, who himself was on the property overseeing everything for the 4th, connected with us personally. The staff at the front desk, the Bettini restaurant, housekeeping and everyone were a delight to deal with and made it that much nicer of a stay! Even Dave who maintains the grounds took the time to say hello and engaged with us! Especially these days where Service has declined due to Covid, Scott and team have kept up with the quality of service very well. We were able to use the courtesy Mercedes GL vehicle to explore the island. Definitely worth looking into. We will DEFINITELY go back there again!!

Incredible customer service leading up to the arrival and all throughout the weekend. I traveled to MV from Boston and stayed at the HVT for 2 days and 2 nights. The Concierge was super helpful in making everything seamless and perfect. Heidi, Allison, Scott, TJ, Dean and everyone else who helped make this weekend escape special...thank you! I will 100% be back to the Vineyard and will 100% be staying at the HVT! Bettini - recommended by Heidi - located right inside the hotel was fantastic. Food was A+! Thank you to everyone who helped make this weekend stellar.

Our friends on the Vineyard recommended the Harbor View. The original building has a stately stately grande dame air from a bygone era, but with every modern convenience. We stayed in one of the outer buildings near the pool, which was a perfect and private location. The room was well appointed and spacious enough. The bathroom on the other hand, was updated with newer fixtures and wallpaper, but I couldn’t help it was partly due to distract from its teeny tiny size. We dined in the restaurant on property one evening. Dinner was delicious, only matched by the upscale yet relaxed ambiance. Unless you want to stay in the more remote “Up Island,” the hotel is perfectly situated in Edgartown, within an easy walk to restaurants, shops and the Chappy ferry. At $550 per night this hotel is on the pricey side. My only issue is that for the steep nightly rate, bottled water daily shouldn’t be too much to ask, especially when it’s usually standard in far less upscale hotels.

Dear ChinadollIRVC, Thank you for posting a review of the Harbor View Hotel. We appreciate the feedback very much. Thank you for the compliments regarding your experience and our beloved hotel. For future visits, you may wish to consider selecting one of our Junior Suites or Captains Cottages which provide more space and many offer spectacular views of the ocean and harbor. Our hotel provides complimentarily filtered still and sparkling water stations, along with complimentary PLA plastic reusable logo bottles in each room for guests to take home with them. As we are in an ecologically fragile and sensitive island with sea life brimming at our shores, we are in the process of removing all use of single-use plastic bottles. We believe firmly that this movement towards eco-friendly practices serves our guests and our beautiful island well now and for future generations. Please accept my apologies for not making our water service clearer during your visit. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again soon. Scott
