#5 of 6 hotels in Edgartown
Travelers' Choice
Harbor View Hotel is located in the heart of historic Edgartown, and for the past 128 years has been a home away from home for the countless guests who travel to Martha’s Vineyard every year. The iconic hotel recently underwent an extensive renovation, revealing new luxurious guest rooms, suites and public spaces, seamlessly melding a new, modern design with the elegance of this timeless landmark. In 2020, the hotel will complete the final leg of the top-to-bottom renovation with The Roxana, featuring 51 completely redesigned guestrooms. While the Historic Building pays homage to classic Martha’s Vineyard, The Roxana has a vibrant, youthful design appealing to both legacy guests as well as a whole new generation of travelers. The property’s culinary program draws in guests of the hotel as well as local islanders with Bettini, an upscale-yet-approachable restaurant that focuses on island-to-table dining and utilizing the Vineyard’s freshest ingredients. With countless accolades and unparalleled views of Edgartown Harbor, Harbor View Hotel is the perfect year-round destination when traveling to Martha’s Vineyard.

This hotel lived up to every one of our expectations from location to the room and facilities. The setting is perfect, the rooms were modern and clean and the staff was fantastic! They could not have been more friendly and helpful. We walked on the beach, took the hotel bikes into Edgartown and did some shopping. We will be back!

This is a 5 star experience in every way. The staff are among the best I have ever experienced and the amenities like the use of 7 speed bikes made daily bike trips around the island easy. Complete with locks, helmets and water. The food in the restaurant was superb and a flavor explosion in my mouth. I can’t say enough about each and every staff person and staff. So accommodating in every way.

First off, the Harbor View Hotel is an exceptionally beautiful property, on the prettiest knoll in Edgartown. It was recently renovated to perfection. Unfortunately, however, the staff wasn't up to snuff during our visit in early June. When we arrived after a long travel day, the woman at registration was clueless and not engaging. She just said, "can i have your names and licenses?" Whereas it would have been nice to have been properly greeted, like "hello, welcome to the Harbor View, we're so glad you're here, how was your travel?" It just seemed like the vast majority of the staff were immature college kids who were not nearly formal or engaging enough. At another point, we want back to the front desk to ask about checkout, and the woman said, "what's up?" At nearly rates of $1000k per night, I expect to be greeted properly, with at least the polite, "hello sir, how may I help you?" At The Bettini restaurant, it was a similar situation: excellent food in a stunning room, with exceptional views. But clueless waitstaff who were far too casual with the guests. When we asked where we could get iced waters at the pool bar (the pool is also stunning by the way), a bunch of college-age frat-boy looking staffers said "sorry we're closed." That was it. No offer to find us iced water elsewhere or tell us where we could go get it ourselves. These service issues need substantial improvement if the hotel is going to continue brand itself as a five star resort/charge five star prices.

Dear Explore, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I am so glad that you were able to enjoy our pristine location and some of our wonderful amenities. I do however have some concerns about the rest of your review. Please allow me to first say how sorry I am that you were not greeted in, the very least, a courteous manner, we certainly take training very seriously and will be following up internally with the lapses in all the services that you experienced. I would love the opportunity to discuss this with you in person, if you would allow me the time. I can be reached by phone at 774-563-8239 or by email at tony.gatto@harborviewhotel.com. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Kind Regards, Tony Gatto | Director, Leisure Sales and Guest Relations

We are midweek in our visit to the Harbor View Hotel and couldn’t be more impressed with the level of customer service. We had an issue with our room and mentioned it to the front desk. Within 10 minutes “Carlos Guzman” the Front End Manager called me making immediate arrangements to allow us to switch rooms. No need for long explanations just the attitude of “What can we do to make this right?” My wife and I truly appreciated the attention. And so far the hotel’s own restaurant “Bettini” is the best in town.

Dear Jeff, Thank you so much for this 5 star review! I am so sorry that you experienced an issue with your room, but I am thrilled to read that Carlos was able to not only quickly resolve the issue but ensure your comfort during the process. We will be sure to share your kind comments with him and our team in Bettini! The entire team here works extremely hard, everyday, to provide experiences like this and we love to see our name in lights. Thank you again for taking the time during your stay to leave a review! I hope that you enjoy the rest of your time with us and we look forward to welcoming you back very soon. My best, Tony Gatto Director, Guest Relations | Harbor View Hotel

We stayed the weekend before Memorial Day. The hotel is 5 star in every way. The rooms and grounds are simply beautiful. And yes, it's expensive but the amenities include: A very comfortable and nicely decorated room/common areas A great pool Use of a new Mercedes sedan for 3 hour blocks (at no additional charge) Bicycles Beach chairs A local open air shuttle to bring you downtown Morning coffee bar (no charge - a small gesture I know but really good) The room was beautiful and the common spaces (especially the front porch) are exceptional. Also, the hotel is on the beach/lighthouse and it's a 10 minute walk to the action in Edgartown. Plus a very nice pool (outdoor Tiki Bar opens up Memorial Day weekend - I'm sorry we were too early) Special thanks to Jack and Sammy (her first day on the job). They (and really all of the staff) have a way of providing great service without being to over the top. There is no better place to stay on the Vineyard - I've attached some pictures. We'll be back for sure!
