Wonderful experience! Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful rooms. Perfect location. Delicious breakfast with fresh baked scones and muffins, homemade granola. Fresh baked cookies each afternoon. Unlimited purified still and sparkling water. Really nice courtyard with gas fire at night. Best possible location in center of town, walking to everything, yet quiet. Sister hotel had wonderful private concert that we went to. Easy bikeride to South Beach and everywhere else. Would go back in a heartbeat!

My husband and me stayed at the Sydney in September 2020. Due to coronavirus the check in and management was different, mainly via texting and the hotel management would reply promptly. When we booked we were told that the parking was free but as we arrived it turned out that there is a daily fee of $40 per day for a parking spot (and there are only 5 spots). Breakfast was brought to our door with coffee every morning, something different every day ( small portion but tasty). Staff is friendly and was always happy to brew some coffee in the afternoon.

The location was close to the Falmoutj Edgartown ferry, The shops were all close by and we were able to walk all over Edgartown without a problem. The hotel is also close to the bus depot. Room was so clean and quite comfortable.

My husband and I had the pleasure of resting at The Sydney for a long weekend in early October. We enjoyed it so much that we will absolutely be back! The location was amazing. We were within a few minutes walk to shops, restaurants, the harbor, and beaches.

The hotel itself was great. Our room was immaculate. We stayed in the "Lark Suite" (room 208) which had picturesque views of shops on the street below and fall foliage. The staff gave us amazing, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies every day! The pumpkin muffins and avocado toast for breakfast were really good as well.

My one and only critique is that the walls felt paper-thin. You could hear everything outside on the street plus, bustling noises or voices in the hall or lobby. If you are a light sleeper, that's something to consider. We are not light sleepers and the hotel was relatively quiet considering it was off-peak season and during the pandemic of Covid-19.

My wife and I so enjoyed our stay here. A couple years back we also enjoyed The Richard, down the street, with an incredible manager, also a terrific property.
This one is as well appointed, equally well located, also a nice and helpful staff.
We felt safe given their Covid protocols, and also enjoyed the informal breakfasts outside and in. The back courtyard is lovely.

Picked this boutique hotel from online reviews and pictures and it did not disappoint! The decor is clean and stylish and our room was quite comfortable. Easy access to outlets to plug in all our devices. Staff could not be more helpful. Patio area is a wonderful oasis with comfy chairs and small tables where you can eat breakfast. They provide a “small plates” breakfast that was plenty for us. (If you need something more substantial Espresso Love is a 3 minute walk where you can get breakfast sandwiches and espresso-based drinks, for those who don’t drink regular coffee, which The Sydney provides.) There is also a filtered water dispenser if you want to fill your water bottle before heading out for a bike ride or walk. The adjacent l’etoile restaurant was wonderful…a bit of a splurge but delicious and well worth it. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to the Vineyard!

In September 2022, my wife and I stayed in Room #6 on the third floor of the Captain's House, adjacent to L'Etoile Restaurant, a short walk from The Sydney's main house. POSITIVES: The location was outstanding, the staff (including Angela and housekeeping) was responsive, the lawn was great, and the included breakfast was satisfactory.
NEGATIVE: There is no elevator in the Captain's House but there are 33 steps to the third floor. We were given two rooms keys at check-in, one of which did not work. The Sydney's wi-fi was out all of Saturday and Sunday. The room is small and awkward, part of it having slanted ceilings. The bathroom is very small (we have been in larger bathrooms in Europe). There were no luggage racks, consequently we had to put our luggage one the floor. The safe was on a recessed nook on the floor, accessible only on one's hands and knees.
SUMMARY: The price paid to stay in the Captain's House was exorbitant given the value received. Perhaps The Sydney's main house is better, but we would never stay in the Captain's House again.

Hello J6215SOwayneg, Thanks for joining us and sharing your experience. We're delighted you loved our generous hospitality, iconic location, and fresh breakfast. With this being said, we're sorry if other aspects of your stay fell short. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with our wi-fi, and we want to assure you that this is a rare occurrence. Since then, we've been able to remedy the issue. As you may know, the Captain's House is a historic building with unique spaces. Therefore, we encourage you to explore our Main House if you prefer an elevator and larger accommodations. It was our pleasure hosting you, and hope to get another opportunity to shine brighter. All the best!

This was a lovely, clean hotel. Friendly staff. The decor is beautiful and peaceful. It is in the middle of Edgartown so easy to shop and dine. The breakfast was nice-I was expecting a coffee and muffin, but they had oatmeal with fruit, smoothie, scone, and avocado toast. I highly recommend!

Initially they put us into the top floor room and it was so small and angled attic angled ceilings that i could not stand unless in center of room (basically at the foot of the bed or door) - i'm 6'2" so not a giant. We complained and then then moved us to the middle floor where the room had normal ceilings. The furniture was very beat up, but shower temp and water pressure was good. They have a more renovated side of the hotel but they did not put us there even though they did not appeared to be booked up at all - it was very early season an covid impacted. Also, you have to pay for parking like 40$ per night FYI.

Are you looking for a boutique hotel that is quiet, quaint clean and in a walkable neighborhood? This hotel made me feel like a princess with the lavish and comfy decor. It felt good to have wonderful hair and akin products. My favorite part is the coffee bar with coffee, tea, filtered water and sparkling water! Last but not least the breakfast is not your typical continental breakfast! They elevated to yummy and homemade items! Best place ever for friends, solar or couples getaway!
