The Sydney is an attractive boutique inn with good-size rooms, updated bath fixtures, comfortable beds, and a welcoming outdoor seating area. Similar to sister property, Newport's Cliffside Inn, they provide a delicious small-plate breakfast. Property manager, Alison, is very pleasant and helpful. Situated in downtown Edgartown, you can't beat the location. You'll be able to easily walk to an array of restaurants, shops, and the Edgartown Light beach. Choose from one of eight rooms in the older, original Captain's House (each with its own personality and size) or one of the newer rooms in the 14-room addition. Be aware that parking in downtown Edgartown and at the property is very limited; you can pay to reserve a spot on a first-come-first-serve basis. Consider taking an Uber or taxi to the inn and then renting a car if you want to explore beyond Edgartown. If you're looking to stay in downtown Edgartown at a charming well-appointed inn, look no further than the Sydney.

Last fall we booked our 'off season' rooms at The Sydney Hotel in Edgartown. Our small king room really was small but had lovely decorating and a very comfortable bed. The location of the hotel is excellent and the incredibly helpful and friendly staff was beyond excellent! We would even see them around town and they greeted us like friends. Allison booked a rental car for us while we were on the street waiting to get in to a restaurant. If you don't bring a car to Martha's Vineyard (you shouldn't) consider a rental car at least for one day to see the island's towns, features, and gorgeous beaches. The night that the restaurant (located below our room) was open, we heard voices from guests and later, staff clean-up but all was quiet by around 10:30. Breakfasts were delicious and each day the offerings were different. We sat out on the patio for breakfast and by the fire one evening and it was glorious.

My husband and I had the pleasure of resting at The Sydney for a long weekend in early October. We enjoyed it so much that we will absolutely be back! The location was amazing. We were within a few minutes walk to shops, restaurants, the harbor, and beaches. The hotel itself was great. Our room was immaculate. We stayed in the "Lark Suite" (room 208) which had picturesque views of shops on the street below and fall foliage. The staff gave us amazing, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies every day! The pumpkin muffins and avocado toast for breakfast were really good as well. My one and only critique is that the walls felt paper-thin. You could hear everything outside on the street plus, bustling noises or voices in the hall or lobby. If you are a light sleeper, that's something to consider. We are not light sleepers and the hotel was relatively quiet considering it was off-peak season and during the pandemic of Covid-19.
