After moving from New England to the West Coast many years ago, we continued to get to the Cape every couple of years. But since discovering the Fort Hill B&B, we've made a commitment to travel there every Fall. Our visit earlier this month was everything that we remembered and all that we wanted it to be. The Nantucket Cottage remains comfortable, cozy, and secluded--and is just steps from astounding natural beauty! Jean and Gordon are wonderful hosts--affording us privacy throughout the week, while remaining attentive to any needs. We've been returning to the Cape for nearly 40 years, and the Fort Hill B&B is still the best place to stay!

We stayed again in the Nantucket Cottage. We enjoyed the privacy of the Cottage combined with ready access to the very knowledgeable innkeepers. We chose the B&B option, planning to eat breakfast out a couple mornings during our week-long stay. In the event we found the Cottage so well stocked that we ate in every morning.

After spending a week at the Nantucket Cottage at Fort Hill B&B in July 2021, my husband and I returned this July, but for twice as long! While that alone says plenty, I’ll add a few more points. As before, Jean and Gordon, our innkeepers, were friendly, helpful and readily available; their reasonable COVID-19 protocol helped us feel safe and relaxed. A 5-6 day heat wave really put the ductless air conditioning to a test, and it passed with flying colors–we slept well and were cool and comfortable in the daytime. The wonderful shower got extra use during that week, too. When some unanticipated work issues arose, the fast and consistent wifi came in handy. And, the rocking chair remained in its appointed spot, perfect for gazing at the lovely ocean view! We’re already looking forward to enjoying that view–and everything else at Fort Hill–next year!

This is about our 7th year staying in the Nantucket Cottage. Does that tell you anything? The cottage has everything you could need, it's very comfortable, quiet and serene, and it is in a perfect location to access any location on the Cape. And the hosts Jean and Gordon are just superb. We will return again next year!

We were so pleased to be able to return to the fort Hill B&B again this Fall. The Nantucket Cottage was as comfortable and as secluded as we remembered it, and the views out the windows and from the yard were spectacular! Gordon and Jean are thoughtful hosts and made us extremely comfortable. We'll be back next year!

Response from Jean Avery, Owner at Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast
Responded Nov 28, 2021
Thanks for your kind words, Dan. It is always our pleasure to host you! If all goes as planned, in the fall of 2022 the Cape Cod National Seashore is scheduled to mow the Fort Hill field. I think you will be amazed at the even more spectacular view from the cottage out to the Atlantic Ocean once the tall grass is cut! We also have a few improvements scheduled for the Nantucket Cottage patio so stay tuned. See you in 2022!

My husband and I recently spent a lovely week in Eastham at Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast’s Nantucket Cottage. This was our first overnight trip since the COVID-19 pandemic began. We chose Fort Hill, in part, because we had learned that the owners, Jean and Gordon, were taking a responsible, science-based approach to the pandemic, and upon arrival, we quickly felt both safe and comfortable. The two-story cottage was spacious with a living room, kitchen, and bathroom on the first floor and a bedroom upstairs. Pegs at the entrance and hooks in the bathroom and bedroom were useful for hanging jackets and other belongings (everyday I seemed to find another hook hidden in the bedroom and always put it to good use!). The kitchen offered an under-counter refrigerator, large sink, microwave, toaster oven, induction burner, Keurig coffee-maker, and many other electric appliances. It was well-stocked with dishes, pots, pans, and utensils. We enjoyed breakfast and bird-watching from stools at the counter in front of a bank of windows. The bathroom had plenty of towels and ample counter space for our toiletries. The tiled shower, which had a handheld shower on an adjustable mount, was fantastic. Water pressure was excellent and hot water was in good supply. The living room had comfortable furniture, including a rocking chair perfectly placed for the distant ocean view. With two sliders, the room had an almost seamless connection to the outdoors. The bedroom was also a pleasant room, and we slept well on the firm mattress. Lighting was excellent in every room, and electrical outlets were plentiful, especially in the bedroom where they made overnight charging of devices simple. We were pleased with how effectively the mini-split air conditioning cooled the cottage on our lone hot, muggy day/night. The location of the B&B just off Route 6 was very convenient to everything on the outer and lower Cape. Despite its proximity to the busy roadway, the setting was quiet and tranquil. We liked lounging in the several seating areas just outside the cottage as well as taking a peek at Jean’s large vegetable garden across the lawn--she kindly treated us to a basket of salad fixings! The Fort Hill section of the National Seashore abuts the property, and scenic trails begin just a short walk away. Without a doubt, Jean and Gordon were key to our wonderful week. Because of the pandemic, we probably interacted with them less often than is typical. Nonetheless, they offered unsolicited, helpful advice and answered any questions we had, both in the months prior to our arrival and during our stay. They clearly have deep knowledge and tremendous enthusiasm for the area they call home! Our week at Fort Hill gave us a perfect launching point from which to explore the Cape and a much appreciated chance to relax in peaceful surroundings. We are eager to return!

Thank you, Route 128North, for your detailed, gracious review of your recent stay in the "Nantucket Cottage". This is our 32nd year of hosting guests and, in that time, I do believe that your review is the most detailed, comprehensive review we have received! Your thoughtful comments about the cottage's amenities will surely help other TA users distinguish us from the myriad of other accommodations on Cape Cod. Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast's unique position within the boundaries of the Cape Cod National Seashore allows our guests to relax and unwind surrounded by the natural beauty of the historic Fort Hill Area. Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast's position, surrounded by 100 acres of meadows, walking trails, forest, and marsh and ocean views never fail to delight our guests... we are thrilled that you agree! We look forward to hosting you again the next time you visit the outer cape!

This was our second visit to Jean and Gordon’s Ft. Hill B&B and it once again exceeded our expectations. This time due to COVID-19 we stayed in the Cottage so we collide all isolate. Jean and Gordon laid in a real variety of breakfast goodies for us after asking what our preferences were - and they were spot on! The cottage itself is just delightful and my wife and I really relaxed when we weren’t out and to a limited degree about. It’s a great cottage for an extended stay with great room and bedroom amenities including a kitchen that allowed us to eat in when desired ( when we stayed the first time we were in the main hose and those breakfasts still remain among our favorites). We recommend Ft. Hill very very highly and thank Jean and Gordon once more for providing us such a wonderful place to live for 5 days.

My husband and I discovered Fort Hill B&B last summer. We returned this summer for another long weekend in the Emma Suite, a spacious, comfortable, spotlessly clean and private suite in the main house. The location of the B&B is beautiful and peaceful, but it is the innkeepers, Jean and Gordan, who elevate the experience. They are gracious, warm and welcoming, and respectful of their guests' privacy. We look forward to Jean's full breakfasts each morning. Not only are they prepared with delicate and well-balanced flavors, but they are beautifully displayed, as well. Upon arrival and each afternoon, we always make sure we have room for one of her homemade cookies, too.

Besides being in an optimal location on the Cape, Fort Hill B&B offers a cottage that is a dream vacation accommodation. And it comes with a daily gourmet breakfast that is a foodie's delight! We've stayed here 4 years in a row and it keeps getting better. The cottage is two stories with the bedroom upstairs. A large vaulted ceiling living room, bathroom, and galley type kitchen are downstairs. Everything you need for the beach is there too (chairs, umbrella). With AC, WiFi, comfy chair and sofa for reading, napping, or chatting, and lovely view make this our favorite place to stay.

If you want a place to relax and decompress, the Fort Hill B&B is it!! We stayed in the cottage for the first time, it was beautiful, very clean, spacious and felt like home. The view of the beautiful flowered backyard was complimented by the oceanview in the background. Can't say enough about the delicious daily homemade breakfast, fit for a king! Jean is surely an awesome cook. Jean & Gordon are not only outstanding hosts, they make you feel like family. We hope to be back again next summer.
