The Whitehaven Hotel is a beautifully restored, historical Bed & Breakfast nestled on the Wicomico River with two docks for visiting boaters and sits beside a 300 year old Ferry (said to be the oldest in the Continental United States). It is a scenic 15 minute ride to Salisbury, Princess Anne or 45 min. ride to the Maryland beaches, but "who needs beaches with our views" and Maryland crabs waiting to be opened and savored only a few minutes down the road. The Whitehaven Hotel provides kayaks and bikes for its guests, I might add that the kayaking is unique with many vistas and waters ways to investigate, while our property is a sanctuary for birds. On any given day you may see eagles, osprey, purple martins, heron, hawks, red winged black birds, humming birds and many more species. It's a gem of a find. Our motto "Enter as Guests and leave as Friends."

I love this place, there will be many return trips! The hotel itself has been meticulously restored and decorated to reflect the original age of the mid 1800s. The furniture, the books, even the bedding are mean to transport you back in time. The location is phenomenal, right on the water and you can sit and enjoy the views and wildlife.

This is a place you go to enjoy calm stillness, and just breathe and absorb what life used to be like. I stayed 3 nights with my sister and a friend, and this is my sisters 3rd stay. The staff and Cindy were all fantastic, and breakfast was amazing and different each day. Very clean, and many small thoughtful extras.

The review left by 'peggy' is completely off, and it's obvious she can't appreciate antiques, and history and needs to stick to staying at Holiday Inns.

Set in a beautiful small town on the Wicomico river this hotel offers peace and quite. The rooms are spacious and staff is wonderful. Was able to enjoy cocktails on the porch and walk around the town (might of had a cocktail with me)

Great Resturant’s nearby including our favorite the Red Roost.

Can get to Berlin, Pocomoke City, OC with a short drive (including a ferry ride!!)

The Whitehaven Hotel in Whitehaven, Maryland is a lovingly restored and decorated, historic hotel. It is on the Wicomico River at an operating 3-car ferry landing. We stop for a getaway when we visit Ocean City, as a quiet respite. Time stops as you rock on the front porch, watching the river, birds, and ferry. There are screened porches where you can look out on the river and gardens as you drink coffee or wine. You can stroll around the small historic town or the hotel’s gardens. There are kayaks and bicycles. You can’t miss happy hour with local wines and appetizers. Breakfast served in the beautifully decorated dining room is always a high point, where you can chat with the innkeeper who quickly becomes a friend. For dinner, you can enjoy the local seafood restaurants—The Red Roost and Boonies. There is a giftshop with crafts by local artisans.

It’s an old building with a friendly, inefficient staff. The house hits you with the mustiness as you walk in the door, and it never abates. The room was cluttered and small, with an up-to-date bathroom . The parlor furniture is quaint and uncomfortable.

Breakfast is rather late, supposedly being served at 9. We were concerned, as we had to leave by 9:30, but were told it would be no problem. At 9:20 there was still no food. My husband was told that they had underestimated how long it would take to prepare breakfast for a full hotel. It was a breakfast casserole, not anything complex like omelets or crepes, so that excuse didn’t hold up.

Not likely to come back

My husband and I spent our first wedding anniversary weekend at Whitehaven Hotel and I truly cannot think of a better place to celebrate this milestone! We truly had a wonderful time. The innkeeper Cindy was easy to communicate with and was very understanding when we notified her that we would get in well after the allotted check-in time on Friday. Once we got settled, we explored our room and porch as we were lucky enough to stay in the Victorian Room. We woke up to the smell of breakfast and were amazed by the waterfront views of the Wicomico River from our room. Breakfast is served at 9am which is the perfect time - not too early and not too late in my opinion. We met Cindy and the rest of her kind and attentive staff, and they all made us feel right at home. After a delicious meal of homemade quiche, tomatoes, orange juice, and coffee, we were ready to explore the grounds and area surrounding the hotel. We used the available kayaks to check out the marsh, and rode bikes about 20 minutes to the Red Roost restaurant, where we hopped on a shuttle to the Bull Lips dockside bar. That evening we relaxed on the hotel's beautiful front porch and watched the cute duck trio wander around as the ferry brought cars across the river. We had dinner at the Green Hill Country Club, which is only about a 10 minute car ride from the hotel. After dinner we played games in the sitting room area of the hotel. Breakfast the next morning consisted of a delicious strawberry and blueberry crepe, eggs, bacon, orange juice, and coffee. We browsed the gift shop and bought some of Cindy's home roasted coffee. I highly recommend a stay at Whitehaven Hotel if you want to feel like you truly got away and are in need of fresh air and some cozy, kind, and welcoming hospitality!

As a descendant of George Gale and other early Maryland Eastern Shore settlers, I can’t express how happy we were to celebrate our wedding in this lovely location. The Whitehaven Hotel was the perfect place for us to discover, when we searched for a place with family and historical significance, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, for our overseas wedding. The entire staff was so helpful in organizing this big event, while we were still in New Zealand. The Wedding itself went off without a hitch and was the magical day we had dreamed it would be. The Whitehaven Hotel and Cindy Curran are true gems of Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

We stayed here on our way to and from the Outer Banks, North Carolina. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and peaceful. Enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the ferry going back and forth. Our gourmet breakfasts were delicious each time. Fresh roasted coffee was such a treat each morning. Everything was clean and spotless. The Innkeeper was very helpful and we enjoyed talking with her each time. The staff were also great.

Within minutes of arrival off the ferry we wished we’d booked more than one night. The stunning location, the comfortable room, the warm welcome and the wine and nibbles supplied, told us straight away that this was gong to be one of he highlights of our three week trip.

On the owners recommendation we dined at the nearby Red Roost Crab Shack and then returned to spend a peaceful evening sitting in the porch with the other guests watching Ospreys on a nest just a few feet away. A comfortable night’s sleep and a wonderful breakfast meant we were reluctant to leave. Exactly what a rural B and B should be - highly recommended.

A small B & B on the edge of the Wicomico River on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the Whitehaven Hotel is quiet, peaceful and in lovely surroundings. The Innkeeper and her staff immediately make you feel at home. A
welcoming cup of tea or coffee or a glass of wine, enjoyed on the front porch rockers, enable you to unwind rapidly from any stress that may have followed you to this lovely spot overlooking the river and its three car free ferry.
And wait until you try their breakfast! Delicious and large! I know we will be back!

My wife and I went down to the Whitehaven hotel for the weekend, hoping to enjoy some nice weather and a relaxing place. This was a wonderful place to spend a few days. The bikes and kayaks were very nice to have around. The view is awesome, the room was beautiful and clean. We stayed in the federal bedroom which was very nice, had its own bathroom and a great view of the water. The Innkeeper Cindy was great! She was so nice, accommodating and very helpful. We missed breakfast one of the days that we stayed but when we did have the breakfast it was incredible. Cindy and the other two chefs were very skilled. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back.
