We stayed a week in RV lot 47 last September for OC Bike Week. The campgrounds were very clean as well as the pool and shower houses. I'm not sure what all the complaints on here are about, they mostly seem to be around the fact that the rates have increased in recent years. We enjoyed Fort Whaley so much that we booked our 2022 bike week reservation before we left in 2021. We liked the fact that it was away from the resort, but only a 15 minute ride to downtown OC. Best location for campers that bring motorcycles. I said "Yes" to water park, because they have a pool, and will give you passes to the waterpark at their other campground
New owners changed a Fort Whaley from Great to a Mediocre overpriced facility. This was our sixth and last visit. The new owners are only about the money. Fort Whaley was a quiet location, had well spaced RV sites, and friendly staff and facilities. The number of sites have trippled and have been placed for the maximum number of sites the rural location could fit.
Booked a cabin rental only to get here and find out our accommodations aren’t even completed and that all of the lumber for our trailer skirting in the grass. They started conducting work on the skirting of our cabin at 8:30am while we were still in bed, and was working on the adjacent cabin the day before. They blocked our driveway preventing us from parking also. And forget about getting an extra trash bag for your cabin. They refuse to supply one when asked for an extra. We have been coming here for the last 10 years when it was Fort Whaley, and since new ownership, activities have been painfully cut. There are next to NO activities during the week for kids to do. And the shuttle to the beach/water park was non-operational. DO NOT recommend coming to Sun outdoors. Not worth the money you spend or the aggravation.…
I informed my friends not to support Sun Outdoor resorts. The prices are extremely not for family camping, and the added fees makes no since. Good bye Sun Outdoor World. We purchased a lot at Indian Aces ofThongburg for 1500.00 a year, includes, Electric and 10 free passes for guest. All amenities included, lots of near by shopping. The lot was $1200.00. It is not a time share. Private campground. 24 hour, year round camping.
This campground used to be a special gem. Nice facilities, great place to spend family time at an affordable rate. Now that they have been bought by Sun RV Resorts, it's all ruined. First, there is the price- no longer affordable. How many families can pay a few hundred dollars for a weekend of camping? Second, for most of the year, there is a three night minimum. My husband and I would have to take a day off work in order to take our sons camping for the weekend. The rates are completely outrageous, and they even add a "resort fee" on top of it! It's so sad that greed has ruined this campground. I hope that people get fed up with the extremely high prices and just stop coming. Their greed is amazing.
We participated in the Ocean Down Casino promotion in good faith. We live local and opted to use the points at a later date. Well to our surprise the point were gone. The card specifically said expire 12/31/2021. What should we have expected? The customer service said we should have used them during our stay. THIS WAS NEVER explained to us. Beware of fine print not printed.
We have been going to this campground with several other families for at least 4 years. This was the worst we have seen it. We were told we had to ask for the weekly rate, the BOGO special, an activity flyer and who knows what else we were supposed to ask for. The rates continue to go up with less available. Two of the bath houses were closed. They had minimal activities. There was no haunted house this year. The kids carts were no longer available. The cabin we rented had a dirty couch, the microwave was rusted on the inside. The RV spot went up $20 from last year to this year, $20 from this year to next year. That is $40 in two years for the same site. The cabin price more than doubled and that is with reserving a year out. Not happy. We will be looking for a new campground for our 10+ families.…
We have camped at Fort Whaley in years past and loved it. We felt welcomed our entire visit. However the 2 ladies that work in the front office are some of the rudest and uneducated (about their job) women I have met. They know nothing about the campground and or the check in or check out process. I booked online 1 year prior to our visit and was never asked for a $100 deposit. On Friday the one lady made a big deal about how she could not check me in because I had 3 weekends booked. I told her that if it was easier to just cancel the other 2 weekends and I will just check in and pay for the weekend we were there. I was told that if I cancel my other weekends then it would cancel this weekend. In the end I was told it was fine and that I only owed for the weekend we were currently there for. When I went to check out I was handed a $1290 bill. They told me that the money I had paid for the weekend was put towards my missing deposit for the weekend we stayed plus the 2 other weekends we had booked. I again told the lady to cancel my other two weekends I had booked. I was told that she could not do that. Was also told to make sure I cancel 7 days prior. I told the lady that I would only be paying for the weekend we were there for. She then told me that I was fine to leave and that she would take care of it. 10 minutes later I get a call telling me again that the $389.00 i spent was put towards the deposit balance on the other weekends and that I still owed money. I told them to cancel the other weekends it was not big deal. I was now being yelled at by the woman and given a major attitude. Spoken to like I was wrong and did something wrong. Finally after listening to this woman yell at me and telling me not to yell at her (even though I never did). She agreed to cancel the other 2 weekends and put the money towards the weekend we spent there. I activity director and helper had about the same attitude. I definitely miss the old director that was very upbeat and made the activities fun for both adults and children. I recommend Fort Whaley for the atmosphere, cleanliness, location and family fun. I do not recommend Fort Whaley for the staff and prices…
This place was a ghost town when we visited, however we had to pay an extra fee when we made reservations to hold the site we wanted (not sure why when there was really no one there). It was a quiet place and not much to do (covid restrictions) other than the pool which was on the small side but at least a place to cool off. Nice thing is that their sister-campground is Frontier Town so we could go to their water park. Was within a short drive of OCMD, Assateague and other local attractions. Would go here again and would recommend.
Stayed in a bare bones cabin in August 2021. We have stayed here in the past with a camper. We stay in cabins now and no longer own a camper. It was just two of us adults. Big changes if you have not been here for a while. Many of them are nice, but if you prefer wooded camper sites, you will have a tough time finding them now. The area we previously stayed in are no longer sites. Each site has a nice table and fire ring. We did not take part in the pool, mini golf etc. We felt the hours for the golf were silly. We burn easily and prefer to golf in the cool of the evening. Unfortunately, the hours end around supper. Not sure why they end that early. Nine would make much more sense (at least for those staying at the resort). Bathhouses - They have updates and added use of two bathhouses. The back one is nice. Its gender-less, so a family or support for a disabled person is useful. However, its HOT and seems not to have a/c. The main center bathhouse stinks - smell wise. The smell doesn't seem to be normal potty odors. Maybe the plastic walls? The showers are a little tight to enter when toting your bag of stuff. Showers are still push-the-button. The bathrooms were cleaned on our first day. THE BATHROOMS DID NOT APPEAR TO BE CLEANED FOR SEVERAL DAYS. They needed it. Not like a level ten, but they needed done. BB Cabin - We had to wait to enter our cabin for cleaning. While we were fine with this, I have to ask WHAT CLEANING? The floors needed swept and there were empty Gatorade bottles in one of the beds. The BLINDS NEED TO BE REPLACED. They are broken and plain dead. There is no excuse for this. The fridge and freezer were TURNED OFF. Why? We planned to use it right away. The BB cabins are simple which is fine. The beds are not made for taller people (FYI). The main bed is a double against a wall. You may want to bring a topper for comfort. The mattress' are covered in plastic. The cabins offer a small porch, table and grill. If the staff reads this post - better and more frequently cleaning is needed. Consider allowing longer hours for the extras. PLEASE add RECYCLING COLLECTION. No biking for adults after dark is silly. The BB cabins NEED blinds. Overall, we may come back but would like to see some improvements.…
