It's a beautiful, old (but charming) property in a great location, but the negative reviews aren't exaggerations. I could not recommend this property to anyone. First, the room had an incredibly musty odor, and definitely smelled like someone has smoked in it. Even with the window open all night long it was very difficult to fall asleep. We almost considered just leaving, since no one was available to address our concerns. But we had driven all day and were exhausted. The hotel is aware of the odor, given the cheap air freshener on the fireplace mantle (which made it only worse) and the air purifying machine near the fridge. If that's what that was? Second, we purposely selected the king size room with fireplace. But the fire place had no logs. Why did we pay a premium for a room with a non-functioning fireplace? Third, I understand we are in a unique situation with COVID, but the breakfast box was very disappointing for what we paid for the room. It includes an assortment of cheap items from a vending machine. Finally, before writing a review I attempted to address these issues with the hotel by requesting a reduction in our room rate. The hotel did accept our request and promised a prompt refund within a few days. After following up on this request every week for a month now, and being promised the refund is still on its way, it's clear I've been led on the entire time. I have yet to receive this refund.

We visited Kent Manor Inn on the recommendation of a friend, along with our teenage kids. When we arrived we literally had maybe an hour to use the pool or kayaks, before the pool was closed. It appeared to us that the most important thing to them were their weddings and not really the hotel guests. Our guest rooms were fine, although dated. We got a snack box, requested juice and hard boiled eggs, since there was no breakfast available due to COVID restrictions. However, the WORST part of the stay was that there are a few items left in our room after we left that we called about twice and were never returned. It seems that they were just too busy with their weddings, to send our items to us in the mail. Our credit card info, that I gave to them for the package was never charged, so there was never an attempt to send it to us. That is the epitomy of bad customer service. Just based on that, we would never return.

They should post a sign, "George Washington Slept here" because I think that is the last time they invested in the Inn. Coronavirus has really taken its toll. The reception desk is a manila envelope with your keys in it left in a basket. After 4 pm there are no live staff members. I guess if you don't like your room, go down and take somebody else's envelope. Keep in mind it is a historic location so no elevator so be prepared to carry your suitcases up the stairs by yourself. The room smelled like an old fireplace, the rooms are dark. (On the positive the room is painted well.) The bathroom steps down three steps from the bedroom in to a tiny room. The bathtub is terribly stained and the metal finish on the tub has been stained by cleaning chemicals. The sink is so small hard to put your toothbrush down. Instead of food service they put a box of old muffins and crackers in your room. Absolutely the worst hotel visit I think we have ever had. I bet you George thought the same thing. The owner was supposed to contact us as he was away from the facility, but alas no contact yet. He might be busy fixing up the place though.

Kent Manor Inn We arrived at The Kent Manor Inn on a Sunday afternoon during the Covid-19 restrictions. The Inn is over 100 years old and a person wishing to stay there should take that into account. The building had a humidity problem, no doubt caused because of its construction and proximity to the river. However, it is very nicely decorated. The reception was warm on behalf the manager of the Inn. It is very quaint as they still use keys, something I have not seen in over ten years. However, upon entering the room we discovered the couch and the arm chairs to be in extremely poor condition, with many visible stains. We told the innkeeper about this, and her response was that it must have just happened. The next morning she informed us that they would have the couch removed after our stay. It obviously does not help us. They could have bought a couch cover which is something most people do when trying to extend the life of this type of furniture. Over the next few days it became apparent that this property needs serious investment in repairs and maintenance. The room itself was not very spacious though we paid for a suite with a balcony, and it was a shared balcony. In the room there is a piece of furniture with a TV. It would be more useful for them to replace this and put a standing closet with drawers. Most people do not go to an old Inn to watch television. Yet, even in its poor condition the property has tremendous charm because of its location and the Inn’s age. They have an outdoor patio with tables and other outdoor furniture that is functional but also needs a good power wash and repairs. We did still enjoy being able to order food and drink and eat it outside to enjoy the view of the creek and the cool breeze. The bicycles they offer function but are rusted and also in poor condition. The Kayaks they offer lie near the pier and also look to be in the same state. I did use the bicycle but not the kayaks. The pool was in excellent condition, close proximity and the water was perfectly balanced. I met the groundskeeper, and he takes great pride in his work, for which I thanked him. We spent a lot of time there and the peace and quiet combined with the natural beauty made the experience wonderful. I am a birder and the property is huge. Plenty of wildlife running around the property Osprey, Great Blue Hero, Snowy Egrets, Mockingbirds, Chickadees and more. Foxes, deer and rabbits as well. This was a big plus for me. Finally it is perfectly located for day trips to Annapolis, Baltimore or Washington DC. The place is a getaway without leaving civilization. Too bad the place needs so much maintenance otherwise I could have given them a higher review. No matter what it is an old house; the word luxury should not be used. If you do not expect luxury and just want a place to lay your head in a beautiful natural scenic location then this place is for you.

A group of us were here for a knitting retreat. The two hundred year old building was a delight to stay in. The staff was outstanding! They checked on us to see if we needed anything or help and made sure we had beverages during our class time. The food was very good and they were able to accommodate those with food restrictions. The meeting room out from the house, with views of the water, worked well for our class room.
