Detailed Reviews
I booked over the weekend of 8/22 - 8/24/20 for a weekend getaway for my wife's birthday. The Innkeeper, Will, went out of his way to make our experience special. He reached out to me prior to our arrival to suggest we move to a larger room with a hot tub overlooking the pool (great advice). He arranged a beautiful big bouquet of roses and bottle of top champagne for my wife upon our arrival.
I was very impressed with the safety precautions in place to address the current pandemic. Disposable masks were available at the entrance for any guest that may not have had their own, hand sanitizers were available throughout the property along with social distancing markers on the floor to remind guests to respect the CDC guidelines. Our meal times were staggered to reduce guests seated at any time and all guests were seated at socially distracted settings spread out across the dining spaces both indoors and outdoors based upon your preference.
Each breakfast was an impressive culinary experience! I particularly enjoyed the breakfast on our last day, and when I complimented Will, he took the time to engage in conversation with us and shared his "secret ingredient" of the dish.
The outdoor area is peaceful and relaxing with a beautiful pool, hot tub and gardens.
This was our third visit to the George Brooks house and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in St Michaels!
Thanks to the staff at George Brooks House for another wonderful getaway.
For anyone considering a trip to the Eastern Shore, I highly recommend you pay a visit to Will and the staff at the George Brooks House B&B!

This guest like so many others find what we do to provide an exceptional B&B experience sets us apart from other inns. We are not perfect - but we strive to be perfect in the most important aspects of an inn - the comfort of the bedroom, the breakfast, the pool, hot tub, bikes and "the little things" - cold drinks and coffee service available around the clock, York peppermint patties and chocolates, and extensive DVD movie library. Our housekeeping at times may not be perfect (cobwebs can pop up overnight) and we may not be able to pick up pool towels and coffee mugs around the pool until after breakfast. But we provide pool towels and replenish the bottled water and sodas several times each day. Not many inns have all of these amenities, and there is a limit on how often during the day we can go around tidying up the pool area. We try to cook "from scratch" every morning - from stove to the plate and served. We don't prepare most food in advance and refrigerate for hours. We try to use local peaches and grow our own tomatoes. It is nice to see some guests can tell the difference! Thank you for the great review > > Will Workman, Innkeeper

When I was looking for a B&B in St. Michael's, I chose the George Brooks House because the pictures looked inviting and it had an accessible room that suited our needs. The pictures did not lie, especially those of the beautiful landscaping and pool, which we could see from our room. The dining room, too, overlooked the landscaping and pool. The dining room was the site of the most delicious breakfasts. The public spaces and our room were tastefully appointed.
The owner/innkeeper had every amenity provided conveniently and clean and environmentally friendly.
Although we were coming out of the COVID cocoon, COVID precautions were (rightly) still in place. Guests were kept at a safe distance at breakfasts and housekeeping entered our room only upon request (which we didn't and didn't need to).
It was close enough to the center of town that you could easily bike if you so chose and the drive was about 2 minutes. But we liked that it was outside the busy town so that it was private and quiet.
We would stay again.

Thank You Dusty . . one of most gracious guests, reminds me of why I chose Innkeeping for my retirement years! The location, design or layout of the inn, pool and gardens was to create a relaxing environment away from the noise and "hustle and bustle" of the town . . . but close enough to walk in or take our bikes. We went to great lengths to make the pool and gardens quiet - all of the pool pumps are over in the garage and the cooling system is geothermal with pipes (both horizontal and vertical) buried in the ground with two 5 ton heat pumps in the equipment room behind the kitchen. I even added a 4 foot high berm close to Rt. 33, the main road (300 feet from the inn), to reduce road noise from passing cars and trucks (most noise is from the tires hitting the road). Come and relax in our gardens, our pool and the hot tub in the evenings! > > Will

We stayed at the George Brooks Inn Christmas evening through the weekend and couldn’t have been happier. The innkeeper was so thoughtful and accommodating that when we couldn’t find any open restaurants on Christmas, he provided us a warm dinner free of charge. Another example - when I left my suit behind on accident, he agreed to mail it back to me, even though I did not ask.
The room was incredible, with a jacuzzi tub, king bed and gas fireplace. It provides the perfect environment we were looking for in a romantic getaway. Everything was impeccably cleaned, and we were never worried about exposure as everyone wore masks in all public areas.
The breakfast was delicious, and the innkeeper accommodated my partners request and served a vegetarian option.
The location was perfect for us, as we wanted something quiet and tucked away, but still close enough to town that we didn’t have a far commute. There are bikes available, and the staff was generous enough to show us where the local trails and hikes could be found.
Overall, I would highly recommend staying here during the Christmas holiday as St. Michael’s is just magical this time of year, and the staff goes out of your way to make you feel at home.

What makes a good inn really great? The INNKEEPER! You can spend millions $$$ on furnishings or other "Ritz Carleton" touches . . and the room rates will likely reflect what they spent on the property. But - "How was your stay at that $1,000 a night hotel, Mr. Rich?" Did the desk clerk or receptionist walk you through the town on a map and discuss the best the town has to offer, and the tourist traps to avoid? Did that person have first hand knowledge of the best restaurants? I have learned not to ask the desk clerk at the chain hotels - they eat at McDonald's, and probably have never been inside the best restaurants in the area. So when you stay at an established inn with experienced innkeeper, you should ask for advice on what is the best in the area or the town. It is clearly one of the "value added" services we provide to our guests!

Many thanks and kudos to the Will and staff for making our stay even better than we remembered from the last time. The updates were intentionally noticeable. After ALL of our cancelled vacation plans due to COVID 19 this was a welcomed get away. I felt safe and was very appreciative of the all the pre-cautionary measures taken (masks, sanitizer everywhere, clean pool and bathroom - crucial for me!) as well as the choice to be socially distant. As always Will was readily available (even made special scrambled eggs for hubby), after an already scrumptious birthday breakfast, and led us to a fabulous special dinner at The Bistro along with pre dinner cocktails at Foxy’s. He’s knowledgeable, discreet, talkative when warranted - the consummate host. We’ve been coming since 13 years ago and plan to always come back. Thanks for making my 50th a memorable one. Hope to see you guys soon!

Repeat guests are the backbone of our B&B business. It is always nice to welcome guests back, update them on the "restaurant scene" and this year - how the pandemic may impact their plans for exploring the area, sailing, etc. We really try to make guests feel safe with extensive sanitary procedures and social distancing inside the inn and out at the pool. If you have any dietary issues or preferences, please let us know in advance so we can see how to accommodate them! And to these special guests - thanks for always being so gracious and considerate > > Will

We travel alot and stay in many B&B's in different locations so this is a review based on experience. I'll start with the good, The grounds of the property are beautiful and well maintained. The Breakfast was surprising good. The bad, Cleanliness and office/kitchen clutter is an issue and its all in the details. Upon checking in was taken back by the dis-organization of the office/kitchen area and was concerned about the breakfast serving coming the following mornings, but like I stated above was surprised. Room smelled like cat pee and had cobwebs throughout with dead spiders within some (along with plenty of live ones as well). The shower was supplied with half empty bottles of shampoo & body wash which in these times is not allowed and should be new every time. 1st morning went to get a cup of coffee found a dead fly in the sink next to the coffee maker and behind the small couch next to the coffee area looked like it hadn't been moved in a long time. Needed ice for my cooler and initially used the ice as directed until I tilted the ice bucket and saw all the dead bugs at the bottom. Innkeeper came in on Saturday had lunch in the dinning room and just left his dirty plate, napkin, coke can laying on the table for 3 to 4 hours after he had finished eating his lunch and wasn't anywhere around. The final morning went to get coffee and the small trash can next to the coffee area was never emptied from the previous day. Looks like at one time this B&B was updated years ago but it needs some TLC on the interior and needs some serious detailed cleaning, this place could be amazing if some attention was put into the interior details and cleaining.

It sometimes just takes one small thing to trigger this type of review. A few small cob webs, a dead fly or ??? At this time of year, with guests opening lots of doors, we spend lots of time every day swatting flies. I don't get all of them. To find one in the small sink at the coffee bar is not a surprise. In the most important aspects of a B&B experience, the comfort of the bed, the room layout, the breakfast, the innkeeping - this guest gives us good marks. The pool and gardens get good marks. The other amenities - cold drinks available around the clock, chocolates, great bikes and the DVD movie library did not matter to this guest. He is very critical of my office which is part of the kitchen and reception area (computer system and printer next to reception counter), but this is a very busy time of the year and bills, payroll, and other documents do tend to "pile up" next to where we prepare breakfast. Apparently if does not interfere with breakfast or checking guests in - but this guest wants you to think that the place is a mess. Most of the other guests care about the major elements of the B&B experience - a small cob web or a dead fly would not ruin their experience.

When we pulled up to spend the night we were immediately met with a run down old house with peeling paint and un mowed grass. We were assigned an upstairs room from the innkeeper who was sitting in the breakfast room paying his bills in scattered piles of paper. When we finally made it up the rickety stair case, almost too small to carry a suit case, we got to our room. The room was really in need of a fixup. When I turned the water on in the bathroom, ants appeared from the back of the fixture. We thought maybe they were coming from the hole in the bathroom wall! The shampoo and soap was a shared pump spray that looked like it had been around for awhile. We went downstairs where there was the entrance to a rather nice pool but we observed a plastic trash basket filled with weeds that had never been emptied and garden tools that had never been put away, We heard someone outside mowing the grass and when we left for dinner, there were grass clippings all over our car! The bed was fine but when we tried to close the blinds, they quickly fell on the floor, with evidence that someone had tried to fix them before our arrival. In the morning, we were met by the innkeeper's enthusiastic wife who made a very good breakfast only to be interrupted by flies and more ants crawling under my plate. The Innkeeper told us that they had owned the B&B for 21 years and had made many repairs. We certainly hope they live long enough to finish the job. This place was not inexpensive. We will never return.

Wow - how could so many rate this inn highly, and then this woman wants to complain about everything? I have noticed a few reviews like this one since the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and it seems like a few want to post this type of review. YES, there were a few minor problems like a few ants in her bathroom - which I took care when she brought it to my attention. After heavy rains, the ants seek higher ground. The appearance of a few ants got more of her "attention" then the qualify of the bedding, the décor, the pool and extensive gardens, coffee and cold drinks available around the clock, etc. The shampoo and body soap dispensers are refillable pump bottles - part of our "Green Certification". This eliminates thousands of small plastic bottles . . but that is not even considered by guests like this one. The house needs painting - the wonderful guy that helped us 21 years ago was to return this Spring . . but cancer took his like this summer. GBH is old historic building, and the old porch posts tend to shed paint. When it cools off this Fall I will be painting them myself if I can't find a painter. These have been a few challenging years, and the scarcity of labor for painting and other maintenance issues is affecting many older buildings like GBH.

The George Brooks House is a beautifully restored home mixing the charm of an old home with many features you'd find in a modern home ... and that's because it was such a MAJOR restoration. The photos from pre-2001 look like the house was hit by a hurricane. Our room and maybe all the rooms have your own bathroom and large Jacuzzi. The bed and furnishings were really nice.
Breakfasts were delicious and the location prefect because it is a large property with cottages, pool, terrace, parking and large hot tub (which we used as biking).
Will is a great host and expert in hospitality. He went above and beyond. We had a great time there and in town.

I don’t even know where to start! I originally booked through an online booking site that had decent reviews. The inn keeper called me and told me that if I cancelled that and rebooked with him directly, he’d save me a few dollars. I’m convinced that he was trying to save himself a few dollars as well as save himself a bad review on that third party site. When we pulled up, the place looked like a haunted house. It’s in dire need of a good power washing and a paint job, and the gutters were falling off the house. There were several wasp nests with wasps buzzing around. When we walked in there was a very musty smell. A common area had a table that was covered with papers and crumbs and what appeared to be the inn keepers bills. There were dirty shoes next to the table. The inn keeper was on the phone with another potential guest, and was telling him the same thing he told me about saving a few dollars by canceling his third party reservation and booking directly through him, so that’s apparently something he does regularly. When he took us to our room, he was barefoot, hence the shoes sitting in the common area. He waited until we got to the door of the room to tell us that they had a “mishap” (in his words). The door to the room had been broken down and they had plywood duct-taped to the door. When we walked into the room, the first thing he pointed out was that the blinds were broken and he asked my husband if he was handy, seemingly asking him to fix the blinds. Then he suggested that we could cover the broken blinds with a washcloth, as other guests had done. There was an antique looking table in the room with a broken rung. There was mold in the bathroom and on the ceiling, and old worn out paint throughout. When we complained, the inn keeper refused to give us a refund. When we stated that we’d go through our credit card company, he offered us a different room. It wasn’t much better; it had several holes in the wall, an old yellowed toilet seat, cob webs under and around the furniture and the paint was very dingy and old, but at least the door hadn’t been kicked in and duct-taped with plywood. We honestly were looking around for a hidden camera because we thought we were being punked! We attempted to eat breakfast, but took one look at the dirty mugs and Keurig machine and decided against it. I would never stay here again nor would I recommend it to anyone else. Pay another $50 a night and stay elsewhere!!

Sometimes as an innkeeper, you can't win! This guest had booked through a third party web site and I called her to show her how she could save $63 by booking direct with our inn. Doesn't seem that she appreciates a "merchant" or inn showing her how to save $63. Several weeks prior to their arrival, a drunk guest broke the top panels in the old 4 panel door to get in at 2am when he couldn't get the key to work. We had to put a plywood patch on the door for security - not attractive, but other guests (about 7 during the few weeks) had accepted the temporary patch. This is an historic 4 panel door, and we were having trouble finding a replacement. I pointed out the problem to this couple when they arrived for check-in. She became irate (their wedding anniversary!) and sent her husband to see me, who first wanted a discount for the problem. I told him that we were full, but give me a few minutes to see what options we had. I was able to move them to a King room upstairs after I talked to the other guest enroute to the inn to see if he was amenable to the change. After the other guest agreed to the change, I went to her husband and said I had a better option than offering them a discount on the room. After they "inspected" the King room upstairs (more expensive, but I would "eat the difference") - they moved upstairs to the other room. Well - it turns out that she was now intent on finding anything wrong . . . with the new room, the inn, etc. I should have just given them their money or deposit back and sent them on their way. But as an innkeeper, you try to accommodate the guest and find a suitable alternative. With this guest - she was not going to be satisfied as you can tell from her long series of complaints.

We wanted a three day break from our home Covid routine, and it turned to five days very quickly! Staying at the George Brooks House is perfect in the pandemic because each room has its own entrance, there is plenty of space by the pool (which has two shallow ends - Genius!) and an outdoor frig filled with drinks. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfasts are over the top and the location is perfect, not more than a half mile from the center of town. Our favorite part however was the hospitality of the family who runs the place. Easiest getaway!

Thank you for posting your review! We were glad to provide you a respite from the "lock down" or isolation created for most of us during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our pool complex is one of the safest in the entire State of Maryland - when I designed the pool 20 years ago, my design called for a depth of 5 feet in the middle, 3 1/2 feet at both ends, and a large set of steps at each end because most of us relax in the step area and talk to others. Call me a genius if you like - but I had no idea that a pandemic would make such a design such an attractive way to avoid others getting in or out of the pool! We have 4 teak chaise lounges, 4 teak tables with chairs and a table with chairs in the garden pergola. Lots of options in the pool area to ensure six feet or more of "social distancing"

My fiancé and I were so pleased to stay at The George Brooks House this Wednesday and Thursday for a special birthday getaway! The innkeeper Will was beyond accommodating & such a pleasure to chat with! With the pandemic at its peak we felt very safe as all social distancing guidelines were followed; masks were worn the entire time from all staff and never once did we feel unsafe, there were bottles of hand sanitizer all around the inn as well as markings to practice social distancing. There were two other couples staying at the inn with us and during breakfast we were all placed safely apart. The breakfast was AMAZING! We stayed in the “love is in blossom” suite and we lit the fireplace, enjoyed the jacuzzi all while the windows were opened listening to the rain storm it was a perfect day to relax and recharge! I highly recommend staying if your ever visiting my favorite little town St. Michaels, Maryland!

Thank you for your review. Even in the off-season and with rain, some people have a knack for figuring out how to enjoy themselves. On a personal level - if I rented a place at the beach for a week, and it rains or a hurricane comes through - I am not a "happy camper"! I can clearly learn something from these guests - open up the windows to hear the rain, start the fireplace, pour some excellent wine . . get the picture? Thank you for showing me how to enjoy myself when the weather doesn't cooperate!
