This was our first time staying at The Inn at Brome Howard and we hope it won't be our last! The food was spectacular and the location and inn were amazing! Tara did a FANTASTIC job making us feel welcome while still maintaining our privacy. The Inn was recently repainted and both the interior and exterior are even more beautiful than the online photos. We enjoyed visiting the many nearby historic sites as well as several state parks. When we returned to the inn, we relaxed on the porches and patio, taking in the peaceful view of the river and the beautiful sounds of nature. We can't wait to return!!!
Unlike many weekend guests of the Inn at Brome Howard, our family of six took up residence there for an entire month! For four glorious weeks in July we enjoyed spectacular views on the back porch while sipping tea, scrumptious family meals in the dining room and daily walks in the lush, winding woods of St. Mary's City. Each room was clean and beautifully decorated in an eclectic style yet enhanced with modern conveniences for comfort. The innkeeper, Tara, made our satisfaction her highest priority. She managed the difficult and delicate balance between giving us our space and accommodating our needs well beyond expectation. While our stay was not the conventional three days, Tara's extraordinary consideration and the warmth and character of the home made our time at the inn a truly memorable experience, one we long to repeat for years to come.…
The accommodations were excellent and the food was first rate! The innkeeper could not have been more welcoming. We really felt at home and the house is centrally located to take advantage of the many natural and historic spots in the area. Highly recommended.
My wife Kuniko and I had a magnificent stay at the elegant and well-maintained Inn at Brome Howard (staying in the elegant Calvert's Retreat room(. Form the helpful check-in in delicious breakfasts to the well-preserved home from the early 1800s with incredible character to the beautiful grounds next door to St. Mary's College (ground for a nice jog or nature walk), Tara's Inn had everything we were looking for during our brief getaway weekend from D.C. to both enjoy the amazing sights (and seafood!) near-by along the Chesapeake and St. Mary's River, as well as to get in some quality writing surrounded by an awe-inspiring environment.
The inn and grounds are gorgeous. Two of my children are history buffs and enjoyed learning about the history of this house and the surrounding area. Our room & bathroom were wonderful - very clean and comfortable with reliable AC and wi-fi. Tara was a wonderful host. We were somewhat familiar with the area, but she was able to provide good suggestions for new restaurants in the area. Her breakfasts were delicious and filling. Her children were similar ages to mine and were incredibly polite and welcoming. This inn was a perfect location to explore Historic St. Mary's City, Point Lookout, and the college. I hope we can return soon.
We stayed for the weekend of our wedding. This was a fabulous idea and enjoyed having the entire Inn all to ourselves! It made for a very relaxing weekend when I should have been stressed out! Tara was fabulous and a great cook! She made our stay such a pleasure!
Saint Mary's City has a number of great wedding venues, but this has to be the best option. We rented the entire Inn for the weekend; hosting the rehearsal dinner, wedding and reception, all in one place. The events manager for Historic Saint Mary's City (Mary) ensured that everything was already set up when we arrived: ceremony seating by the water, cocktail tables on the lawn, and a reception tent with tables & chairs. It was a real load off not to have to worry about any of this stuff over our stay. The Innkeeper (Tara) prepared wonderful breakfasts for us and our guests staying in the Inn's five rooms. Both Tara and Mary were on hand throughout our stay, ensuring that all went off without a hitch. Our catering was handled impressively by The Real Food Studio: street tacos from their food truck for the rehearsal dinner, and a choice of crab cakes (yes!) or beef tenderloin for the wedding reception. Our friends and family raved about the setting and the experience. Can't wait to see the photos (photographer: Sandi Foraci). The inside and outside of the Inn, the lawn, the beautiful old trees, and the Saint Mary's river, all made for a stunning backdrop. Sunsets there are also fantastic. Renting the whole Inn sounded like a reach at first. But, this was really quite affordable. It would have cost us a lot more, and been more stressful, to arrange for separate venue rentals and accommodations. This is such a special place. We'll be back for many more weekend visits to come.…
My husband and I just came back from celebrating our anniversary over the weekend at this Inn. We had the absolutely best stay, from the cozy, welcoming and relaxing room to the FABULOUS breakfasts. Tara is an amazing cook, even though she doesn't think crab cakes are for breakfast!! ( She made a crab cake eggs benedict our first morning that was out of this world.) The area is gorgeous and the Inn is part of Historic St. Mary's city, the first capital of Maryland, plenty of history also. We will definitely have to plan another visit to this wonderful Inn and the amazing Innkeeper.
It was a very relaxing and quiet stay, exactly what we needed. The host was amazing. We did some local sightseeing and this location was ideal for the weekend. The breakfast was delicious and the room was large and comfortable overall.
We arrived at the Inn at Brome Howard after a long day of driving down the Western Shore of Maryland. We were welcomed by Tara the innkeeper as we were parking our car and that first friendly welcome set the tone for our overnight stay. The Inn is architecturally wonderful, with beautiful open rooms and an amazing setting. Although the building has been moved from it's original location in Historic St. Mary's City, the new siting is so well done you might never know. I particularly liked the alle of trees at the entrance. Our room was spacious and comfortable and we loved that the furniture, while not original, was much more interesting that standard hotel issue. Tara was very helpful in giving us recommendations on where to have dinner, though we ultimately found something on Yelp. Finally, we had a delicious hot breakfast the next morning b.fore heading on our way. We really enjoyed our stay.…
