Princess Anne Book Lovers Club Inn was a most wonderful experience! There was charm and warmth at every turn and in every detail. Heidi is lovely and welcoming and every little charming detail makes you feel pampered and want breakfast to last all day!
My room was comfortable and quiet and the location just off Rt 13 made getting around very easy. Highly recommend and looking forward to returning!

We loved our two-night stay at the inn. The entire place is so beautifully decorated and cozy. There’s a lovely breakfast room and a charming library/living room. You don’t have to be a book lover to stay here, but if you are, the literary theme is very special.

We stayed in the gorgeous Jane Austin room, beautifully appointed with antique furniture and one of the biggest bathrooms we’ve ever had at an inn, complete with separate shower and claw-foot tub.

But the best part was the exceptional hospitality of Heidi, the innkeeper. She cooked me a special breakfast, and provided us with little treats when we had our tea in the evening. Heidi was very helpful with tips about attractions and restaurants in the area.

The location was close to Salisbury, which offered many dining options, including the Evolution Brewery, which we really enjoyed.

We highly recommend the inn and hope to return soon.

My partner and I stayed here after a day trip to Chincoteague on our way back to DC. We enjoyed a lovely evening in the Robert Louis Stevenson room (on the cozier side, depending on your size, but with some delightful thematic elements). Heidi was an amazing host — this place is clearly a passion project for her, and it shines through in her attention to detail and care for the guest experience. She also prepares a lovely English breakfast!

We will certainly be staying here again on our next trip to the peninsula!

I was scheduled for a training class in Salisbury for three days this past weekend and since it’s almost two hours from where u live I needed a place to stay. After looking at the prices of modest hotel rooms I checked for a VRBO and Airbnb. I found this cute B&B about 20 minutes from Salisbury and was wowed by the hospitality, the decor, the proprietor and the town. I can’t wait to go back for a girl’s trip in the fall.

We had an opportunity to experience the comfort and hospitality of the Book Lover’s Inn this past weekend. Heidi is a most charming and remarkable host and made us feel more like family from the moment we walked in the door. The Inn and service are British themed and the accommodations were outstanding. We stayed in the Jane Austen room which was beautifully decorated. Heidi prepared wonderful breakfasts and don’t even think of refusing the tea when offered. We were also fortunate to meet another couple there who are relocating to our city soon and have already stuck up a continuing friendship. We can’t wait to visit again. Thank you Heidi.

Happened upon the Book Lovers Inn by chance. Sooo happy I did! Heidi is wonderful, the inn is super clean and cozy.
Loved our stay but sorry it was only one night! My English tea at breakfast reminded me of my growing up years with my Welsh Grandma and Grandpa, we always had tea together in the morning.
We stayed in the Langston Hughes room and it was great. Very comfy bed and everything had a good comfortable feeling.
I just loved it there, did I say that already??

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Heidi’s cute B&B. She met us at the door and spent time giving us info on her place as well as good restaurants. We had the Robert Louis Stevenson room, very quaint and comfy with a private bath. The neighborhood is super quite and we both got a good nights sleep. Heidi served us an “English breakfast” the next morning at 9 which was quite good. We haven’t stayed at a B&B for a few years and forgot how enjoyable it is compared to a regular hotel. Heidi provided a first class stay, highly recommended! John & Michele

The Booker Lover's Inn is a well loved and cared for inn. We enjoyed meeting Heidi and were treated like family stopping by for a visit. The rooms were immaculate and the bed very comfortable. We stayed after walking the Wildlife refuge in Cambridge and canoeing on the Pocomoke. We would definitely stay here again .

We stayed at the Alexander House B and B on July 22, 2012 and were disappointed by both the extensive rules and regulations involved and the lack of the advertised “gourmet breakfast”. We didn’t post a review at first, but contacted the owners with our concerns. After several emails back and forth, they said we were “venting”. We still didn’t submit a review, in order to give the hosts a chance to make adjustments. It has now been over a month since then and we noticed that a subsequent reviewer experienced the same breakfast situation and that the Alexander House website still promises a “gourmet breakfast”. That is why we decided to submit this review.

As a Bed and Breakfast, the Alexander House carries off the Bed part very well, but falls down badly on the Breakfast part.

Instead of a “gourmet breakfast”, or even a cooked one, we encountered a do-it-yourself buffet of cold English muffins and waffle sections laid out in sandwich bags next to a toaster, along with some fruit, yogurt, and cereal. It was breakfast, but more motel than gourmet. Of course, there is no law that a B and B has to serve a breakfast that is actually cooked, but that is what we’ve always experienced elsewhere and what the “gourmet breakfast” mentioned on the website and many of the reviews seemed to promise.

After we had paid and checked in, our hostess mentioned in passing that breakfast would be laid out and a menu posted. The next morning the menu turned out to be a list of the items on the table and in the fridge. There was nothing that could be ordered and no one in the dining room but us. When we complained of the breakfast later, they replied that this was a one-time event due to the hostess’s recent operation, but also indicated that breakfast had been served that way all summer. Either way, it would have been better to have been told this before we checked in. Since a subsequent reviewer complained of the same problem, we know it is still being done.

Our rating reflects our disappointment at the motel-type do-it-yourself breakfast. People choose a B&B for a time to relax. They can cook their own breakfast at home.

Response from elizalex, Owner at Princess Anne Book Lovers Inn

We have been trying out a summer breakfast buffet because of frequent guest feedback saying they wanted a light and cool breakfast, not a heavy cooked one in the summer. And many wanted a self serve to get out early for outdoor activities in the summer, and not need to come down at a certain time for a cooked breakfast.. Since we ourselves have enjoyed these type of buffet breakfasts at many inns, we offered this for the summer. We have received many positive comments from other guests regarding the buffet breakfast. We currently offer large Belgian waffles (not frozen) and crepes with fruit toppings, breads, muffins, bagels, cooked eggs, pastries, fresh fruits, a variety of yogurts, apple sauce, juices, coffee and teas. We have this summer breakfast described in detail on our website and in other b an b paid listings such as I Love Inns and Bed and Breakfast.com. We cannot control what people have written on Trip Advisor regarding breakfasts in the past and how they differ from current breakfast offerings, this is not our advertising. That said, we’ll be returning to a more traditional breakfast soon. The “extensive regulations” referred to are to keep the front doors locked and to store foods in the fridge. Interesting note: The reviewer above took the time to write in the room journal, “We had a great stay on ---birthday. We had an enjoyable time, and that can be taken literally!”

This is a pretty and well-appointed home. The rooms highlight authors, so it is interesting for bibliophiles. The breakfasts were well prepared and attractive. Notwithstanding, the number and specificity of the rules made it hard to feel totally at ease.
