The rooms were beautiful, VERY clean, and the bed was comfortable. We came for a wedding in west Ocean City, it was a tropical storm, and they still were open. The view from the veranda room was gorgeous, even in a storm. The owners/staff were lovely and friendly. We would definitely stay here again. If we cane with the whole family I would look to rent an apartment at the adjacent BeachWalk property. (Same owners). Clearly they have high standards.

Excellent bed and breakfast right on the beach. Vicki and Charlie are excellent hosts. Breakfast was outstanding. Vicki gave us excellent dinner recommendations and even made reservations for us. Rick, the maintenance person was a great resource and really friendly.

We stayed for a week and we’re completely disappointed. The only positive things are: location - right on the boardwalk and the beach, with plenty of restaurants around it. The inn provides beach chairs and towels - which is very convenient. Besides that, unfortunately I have nothing positive to say about Inn on the ocean.Bed and Breakfast definition assumes a place which is known for extra hospitality, more personal service, as well as hot cooked meal prepared in the morning and little extras to make the stay more enjoyable.Well, it’s not a case here. The staff is ok, but they really don’t care much about you, you can only ask them questions in the morning because there is no one there in the afternoon. The place is very old outdated and needs major cleaning. We stayed in the Hunt room and it was horrible. The room is dirty, you really don’t want to look behind the sink and on the floors. The shower is the worst I’ve ever seen. I’m an average size person, but I had hard time trying to fit in the shower, and it’s super old. It shouldn’t probably cost more than $30 or so to put a basic shower head, why can’t they at least change the shower? The breakfast was awful, prepackaged bagel and muffins, banana and apples, the same everyday. Oh, and they boiled eggs in bulk, which doesn’t make them that fresh. I got an egg and it had dusty grey yolk, which usually appears when egg is not fresh or was boiled a week ago. And please don’t use Covid pandemic as an excuse. We stayed in bed and breakfast in Cape Cod last summer in the midst of pandemic surge, and had amazing hot breakfast each morning with proper precautions taking by staff. You can’t get cup of tea or coffee after breakfast here, so if you want a night cup, walk on the boardwalk and find a place to buy a cup of tea in the evening. Oh, by the way, there is no iron in this bed and breakfast ,so bring your own from home. The place doesn’t feel like bed and breakfast, it feels like cheap motel, where owner just wants to make money and doesn’t care about the guests. It’s a perfect location for restaurants and the beach, but there are plenty of other options around here where you can have more pleasant experience.

Now called Beach Walk on the Ocean, it does not even come close to living up to the reviews and recommendations of the past. While the place was clean and "quaint," the check-in process and lack of communication were unacceptable. I did not receive the promised email of check-in instructions the morning of arrival and had to phone them to be told that I only needed to go to the 2-star hotel next to the B&B to check in. I explicitly asked about a key code since I would arrive late and was told it was unnecessary. Upon arrival, no one was present at the hotel front desk, and a sign said to phone, which I was done and told the key was "on the bed." I tried to access the rear exterior door close to the parking, and it was locked. I then schellped luggage to the boardwalk front entrance (in the rain) where there was a keypad lock, necessitating another phone call. The odor of mold and mildew was overpowering once inside. When I requested clean towels from housekeeping, I was told they only had hand towels available. There was no breakfast (and in fairness to them, they did note that on their website and correspondence), but they did have (bad) coffee available, but no creamer beyond flavored creamers. In summary, a real disappointment from a place with a little care, some customer service skills, and some dehumidifiers could be a real gem!

All the pictures advertising this location need to be updated!! This location is very convenient to the beach and of course to the boardwalk. The porch was a perfect place for my siblings, and I to gather, but major cleaning, and maintenance needs to be done. The railings coming off the porch are both broken. They advertise there are beach chairs, umbrellas, and bicycles to be available to guests. Both beach umbrellas were broken. There were only two beach chairs and there were no bicycles! My family and I occupied five out of the six rooms in this bed-and-breakfast. Some of the bathrooms were upgraded and some were not. My husband and I occupied the room that had the ocean view. We were unable to open the door to access the small deck, and there was so much bird poop up there! So glad I spent $50 extra per night to stay in that room!!! The final straw was the whole chewed into one of our bags from a mouse!!

To Whom it May Concern: I have had a terrible experience with The Inn on the Ocean in Ocean City, Maryland located at 1001 Atlantic Avenue. I had a reservation at this inn which I made in February of 2004. My reservation was for the weekend for August 7 and August 8th. I had a prepaid gift certificate from my company for this two night stay. My bill was paid in full by credit card, in advance and the total amount was $468.70. The day before our arrival date, I called the inn to confirm my reservation. I was told by Charlie Barrett, the owner, that I no longer had a reservation. He said that I had called to cancel my reservation on June 23rd. This was absolutely NOT true. I had NEVER cancelled my reservation. Furthermore, Charlie continued to tell me that the inn had had a fire and it was closed until December, 2004. At this point, I asked for my entire deposit to be refunded in full, as I had never cancelled my reservation in the first place, and he no longer had a room for me on my desired weekend, and secondly, because he could no longer provide a room for me at all for practically the remainder of this year. He has defaulted on his end of the agreement not once, but TWICE.I have asked for a refund, and he refused. At this point, Charlie Barrett proceeded to use profanity with me over the phone as he insisted that once a gift certificate is purchased,it is totally non-refundable. This is ridiculous, as he cannot provide a room for me at all at this point, and he wrongly cancelled my previous reservation. Charlie is totally unreasonable, and he insists on keeping my $468.70 and gives me absolutely nothing in return. He cannot provide me with the service I paid for. I would NOT recommend this hotel to any tourist on any web site.
Sincerely,
Lillis Werder

We had reserved 2 rooms for the weekend of May 15th - 18th. Unfortunately a week prior to our scheduled stay, my father was rushed to the hospital and we nearly lost him. Not wanting to be far away (it would've been an 8 hour drive back if something had happened) we cancelled. We were told that if they rented both rooms for the 3 nights booked we would received our deposit of over $600 back less a $50 "processing fee". The woman I spoke with said they would also be willing to work with us. All week long we watched their reservation page, one of the rooms was rented for the 3 nights though that stay began on Thurs. instead of Friday. However, they could not have rented the room if we had been coming in on Friday. The other room was rented for just Fri. & Sat. nights. When my husband called them to inquire about some kind of deposit refund (we offered to split the difference)The gentleman he spoke to was very rude and evasive but finally did agree to only charge us for the 2 rooms for Sunday night, which was $350 and refund the difference o $285.. They only refunded $175 to our credit card.
We were very disappointed with how this whole thing was handled. When we originally had to cancel, I explained about my dad and even offered to give them the name of the hospital so they could verify my story and see we were not just trying to get out of a reservation. Nor did they offer any kind of credit for a future stay which would have been very satisfactory to us as we really wanted to reschedue our trip. We realize they are a business, but a little compassion would have been appreciated. To just take and keep a person's money is not right. Most establishments at least offer a credit for a future stay, but evidently not the Inn on the Ocean. We noticed another post with a similar experience. I guess they don't want the business that much. This inn was recommended to us by a few friends and after we told them our experince they have vowed not to return. I guess the owner of this inn don't want the business too badly since they feel it's ok to treat their customer this weay.

A terrible interaction with a very rude owner:
An Inn on the Ocean may be a lovely B&B, but they could certainly improve their customer relations.
When I called to make a reservation I inquired about a credit from a few months ago (we had to cancel due to a death in the family). I honestly planned to stay whether or not the credit was still available -- but it can't hurt to ask, right?
Wrong. When i inquired about the credit the owner was very short with me, and when i asked for a bit more information -- i just wanted to understand -- he got very defensive. I tried to say that it was okay, that i still wanted to make the reservation, but he wouldn't let me get a word in! With no warning at all he turned from genteel inn owner to angry businessman. It was a terrible interaction that nearly left me in tears.
Needless to say, after that experience i do not plan to stay at the Inn on the Ocean, no matter how charming it is.

My husband and I just enjoyed a 3 night stay in the Oceana Room which was wonderful as it has a private balcony facing the ocean. This room is almost twice as large as the other 5 rooms but all are lovely, with private bathrooms. Our room had a HUGE bathroom with jacuzzi tub. We were made very comfortable during our stay. Upon arrival, Vicki, our hostess, asked if there were any dietary restrictions she should know about or if we had any special breakfast requests. My husband said he doesn't eat bacon or sausage and so Vicki remembered that and each morning when those items were served to others, my husband was given an extra piece of the featured breakfast (Creme Brule French Toast for example) and he didn't have to face any bacon! How thoughtful! The house itself is lovely and the porch is fabulous - with comfortable rockers facing the ocean. Weather permitting, breakfast was served on the porch each morning where we enjoyed a breathtaking view of the ocean. I had always thought staying way down on the Boardwalk area might be noisy and tacky - but The Inn On the Ocean is just far enough away from the crowds and is on a most beautiful stretch of beach. The hosts, Vicki and Charlie, provide bicycles for their guests' use and also beach chairs, beach umbrella and fluffy soft color coded beach towels! (Each guest room has its own color so as not to confuse the issue between guests). We plan to return again - preferably after Labor Day, which is when we stayed this summer - as it's just a little quieter than mid summer.

We love animals but not everyone does so unfortunately we cannot accommodate four legged friends. There are several motels/hotels that can. Try the barefoot Mailman, the Clarion or the Safari.
Vicki and Charlie Barrett
Most of our guests prefer a time away so I am sorry but children need to 18 or over before coming to the Inn on the Ocean. Yes, that is a rule but occasionally we bend a little depending on availability.
