The spirit of the Blue Moon Rising Village is that of a community. We invite you to come experience the beauty of Deep Creek Lake while staying in one of our cabins. Appropriately named Waldens, after the American masterpiece by Henry David Thoreau, our vacation rentals complement the natural landscape of our site, and encourage a sense of community throughout. Each Walden has a unique design and personality, and we hope that our residents enjoy each one for its distinct characteristics. The Waldens were built locally in Cranesville, MD by our friends at Hobbitat. They are primarily built out of locally sourced reclaimed lumber. Bill Thomas and his team carefully crafted the spaces to fully capture what Garrett County Living is all about. While each centimeter of space is as valuable as the next, the design creatively fits the comforts of home into a cabin in the woods. Built in the vein of the tiny home movement, our Waldens provide the best possible use of space for your vacation; a space to rest before your outdoor adventures, and then to relax and reflect afterwards.

We wanted to stay in a cabin (to allow for social distancing) and we totally enjoyed our tiny home cabin. Our cabin, called Belladonna, was very comfortable. It fit the 3 of us comfortably in a queen nook and a loft with two twin mattresses. We had an elevated island in the middle with four high stools so we had a great place to eat, play board games, get on our laptops (to watch a movie), or just to sit around. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was great. Having used an RV bathroom, this one was a joy and of good size; it had a shower stall, no tub, with a full toilet and sink. The kitchen was stocked with dishes, pans, an induction stove top, a compact (dorm size) refrigerator, but no freezer. No microwave either which would have been helpful for leftovers. When you arrive, you are allowed to drive up to the cabin to unload (then later to pack up), and then you park your car in the parking lot. It is a short walk to and from the parking lot, but it's a steep uphill getting to the cabin. No worries if you have issues doing the walk because they'll give you a ride on their golf cart. This was helpful when we had groceries to carry. We had a few snafoos when we arrived, such as no bar soap, a missing window curtain, and they were out of the box fans. But the staff were very accommodating and helpful and helped us out. They even gave us a discount for our troubles. They provide linens and towels and will replace them periodically; at least they did that for us since we stayed a week. Outside our back windows were the woods and there are short walking trails around the cabins. Blue Moon is located very close to local attractions. While you need a car, everything was easy to get to. We would definitely return to Deep Creek and to Blue Moon Rising!

My daughter and I have been big fans of tiny house videos and articles on the Internet. She really gave me a wonderful surprise for my birthday with a get away weekend for the two of us at Blue Moon Rising. We shared the Funkamatic cabin and it gave us a good appreciation for what its like to live in a tiny house. The cabin is rather spartan but that was OK and even though it was late October, we did sit out on the attached porch. The location is wonderful up on a hill above Deep Creek Lake and there is a hiking trail on the property. There are a number of restaurants nearby as it's difficult cooking in a tiny cabin that only has a single induction cooktop and toaster oven.

Do be aware that the cabins are up a steep grade from the parking lot (cars are not allowed up the service road) and it's a stiff walk to get back. Office staff have a couple of carts that are used to take you and your luggage up the hill and can also deliver you if you don't relish the walk.

This was a wonderful weekend for the two of us, away from the bustle of the big city.

Where to begin?….I guess at the start, the planning stage.
We had questions, a lot of them.
Whitney and the staff were always very prompt and courteous about answering our many inquiries.
There are many options of places to stay in the Deep Creek area and this was our third time staying at Deep Creek(first time at Blue Moon). Because of the service we received while planning our family gathering we decided to roll the dice and chose Blue Moon Rising for our Thanksgiving destination.
We are so glad we did! There were twenty-two of us!
19 adults, 1 senior, 1 toddler, 1 baby AND 7 dogs.
Each of the cabins were unique and clean! We rented eleven of the 14 cabins, and every one of them exceeded our expectations!
The Blue Sky was perfect for my 94 year old mother using both a walker and at times a wheelchair. This cabin was spacious enough for her to get around, she even took advantage of the ADA compliant shower which was especially appreciated.
Bella Donna was quaint for my husband and I, while our single adult sons shared Skya, which was perfect for them and two of the family dogs.
Several family members commented about how great the water pressure in the showers were and how nice it was to enjoy coffee (from the French press) in our individual cabins, before coming together in the Phoenix for meals, games, family chaos and zany activities.
The Phoenix was perfect for meal prep and dinner. It was spacious and accommodated all of us brilliantly.
I would be remiss if I did not mention Ox, a member of the staff, that continuously came to our aid. Whether it be to empty trash, take members up the hill or instruct us on firewood & recycling policies. Ox made our “tiny cabin”adventure exceptional.
I would definitely recommend Blue Moon Rising, the entire experience was memorable, from the picturesque views, amazing trails to the comfortable, cozy cabins.
Enjoy,

We had a very nice time here. It was quiet, the leaves were beautiful and the staff friendly. The bed was a little hard and I think it's strange that you had to put your bedding and towels in a bag and put them outside with the trash. Seems like for $200 a night staff could do these tasks when they clean the cabin.

We stayed at Blue Moon, in the Walden, for the first time on 6/12 and 6/13/20. The tiny house was awesome, very cleverly designed and nicely finished. The development is beautiful and although there are 14 houses, they are situated in such a manner that you still have privacy. The back porch had a rotted board and half the porch was promptly replaced once the staff was informed. But what really impressed us had nothing to do with the the property. After returning from a trip to a state park, our vehicle developed a loud rubbing sound from the front end. Staff member Sean, saw us working on it, took a look and made some called to find a shop that was still open at 4:30 on a Saturday. He also said we should talk to staff member Ray who would be in shortly. When Ray arrived he listened, said is was likely a stone in the rotor shield, jacked up the car, removed the tire, tapped on the shield and a stone dropped out. He then replaced the tire and tested the car. Problem fixed. Needless to say, Sean and Ray saved us towing, repair costs and a likely delay in returning home. Blue Moon is fortunate to have folks who are willing to assist guests, regardless of the issue. We will definitely be back and look forward to our next stay at Blue Moon.

My boyfriend and I spent a long weekend here and couldn't have asked for a better experience. You can tell how much love was put into building and maintaining the entire property. Our cabin was well maintained and had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our stay. We visited their partner restaurant, Moonshadow, and would highly recommend visiting as well. We will definitely be back in the future!

Blue Moon rising provides very unique "tiny house" accommodations. We were very impressed with the entire experience. We stayed in Sugar Magnolia which provided 2 queens (one entry-level, and one in a loft). The rooms are decorated with local artwork, and the attention to detail and craftsmanship of the house is impressive. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Very quiet, peaceful, and relaxing setting. Very shot drive to Wisp for some skiing and to local restaurants. We will definitely be back.

This is the second time we have gone to BMR. We have stayed in the Bella Donna and the Orion cabins and both were delightful. The staff is very professional and helpful, the unique cabins are very clean and quiet, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We will definitely stay ay BMR again.... we are repeat customers!

this is a great way to enjoy a cozy evening in the winter, the cabins are comfy and kitchen well-stocked with equipment, everything you need. you get a golf cart ride from your car to your cabin. there are views of the lake and the trees. though there are around a dozen cabins, at this time of year we still felt privacy and were not near other people. friendly low-stress staff.

Great getaway to relax and spend time as a couple. We were looking for a camping location with access to fishing and activities. Trip Advisor recommended Blue Moon. Our stay could not have turned out better. The mini house was quaint and adorable. We had easy access to activities and parks. Sitting on the porch and relaxing or entertaining ourselves with reading and music made this a peaceful and romantic getaway so close to home but a world away. The staff was helpful and accommodating. We would certainly return and highly recommend.

Is there lake access and/or waterfront equipment (canoe, paddle board etc)? Thanks!
Answer from Pamela W
Baltimore, Maryland19 contributions10 helpful votes
As others noted, Blue Moon Rising is across the street from the lake and does not have its own access. But it's a quick drive (less than 5 minutes) to High Mountain Sports, which rents boats and kayaks on the lake in season. Deep Creek Lake State Park (10 minutes by car) also has rentals in season.

No. But in the deep creek area, they generally aren't necessary.

There are a couple cabins that do not have a loft and there is one ADA cabin which is more easily accessible if that is the concern. Here are some suggestions MoonShadow Orion Blue Sky (ADA compliant but also has a loft)
