About

#1 of 3 Specialty lodging in McHenry
Travelers' Choice
The spirit of the Blue Moon Rising Village is that of a community. We invite you to come experience the beauty of Deep Creek Lake while staying in one of our cabins. Appropriately named Waldens, after the American masterpiece by Henry David Thoreau, our vacation rentals complement the natural landscape of our site, and encourage a sense of community throughout. Each Walden has a unique design and personality, and we hope that our residents enjoy each one for its distinct characteristics. The Waldens were built locally in Cranesville, MD by our friends at Hobbitat. They are primarily built out of locally sourced reclaimed lumber. Bill Thomas and his team carefully crafted the spaces to fully capture what Garrett County Living is all about. While each centimeter of space is as valuable as the next, the design creatively fits the comforts of home into a cabin in the woods. Built in the vein of the tiny home movement, our Waldens provide the best possible use of space for your vacation; a space to rest before your outdoor adventures, and then to relax and reflect afterwards.

My cabin was a clean break from the DCL norms, hiking was so sublime that a bobcat spotting felt simply Eden-like. And as a writer seeking a respite from COVID crazy, BMRising stimulated my mind’s eye, my pen’s passion and my heart’s thirst for more

We had a great stay at Blue Moon Rising! The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. We loved the porch and being able to look into the forest. The outdoor shower was clean and it was great that it had a hot water hook up. The staff was incredibly friendly and we will definitely come back for another stay.

There is no picture posted that does this place justice. The cabins are absolutely amazing, wonderful tiny homes that are cozy, relaxing, and each one is unique!! When it comes to "customer service", they go above and beyond hospitality to make your stay as perfect as it can be. Shaun was the most wonderful and accommodating host, always cheerful, helpful, and ready to take you to your cabin in the golf cart. We can't wait to go back!!! Definitely need more then a weekend!!

Coming from Baltimore, my boyfriend and I were looking to get away from the bustle of city life. We found exactly what we were looking for at the Kaya cabin at BMR. We loved the campsite for its perfect mix of privacy and community, and had wonderful evenings sitting on our front porch enjoying the view. Not only was the cabin absolutely adorable and quaint, there were several options for outdoor activities nearby (Deep Creek Lake, Garrett State Forest, Swallow Falls, and skiing at Wisp - not to mention, BMR has short/cute hiking trails on premises!). I highly recommend BMR for couples or families looking to unwind and experience the ~joy of nature~!
