Had a wonderful one-year dating anniversary stay with my partner. The owner, Joe, was very responsive to emailed questions before the stay. I booked Betty's Suite but Joe upgraded us for free to the Banneker Suite due to some lack of clarity on the website. Joe was flexible with check-in time, and efficient and friendly in getting us settled. Room was beautiful. Spacious and luxurious bathroom - LOVED the jetted tub. Mattress too firm for us, but we're very young compared to probably most people who stay in B&B's so we get it. Stairs creak super loudly so you can hear whenever people are going up or downstairs, but it is historic so what can you do. Joe cooked a really nice breakfast and kindly took many indoor and outdoor photos of us. Loved the stay, would visit again. Worth noting that we are a couple of two women and we felt perfectly welcome.

My husband and I desperately needed a weekend getaway and a break from our kids so I searched the area for a B&B and found this one. We love character and history in a B&B so we enjoy the creaky floors, winding staircases, and all the other little oddities that come with an extremely old house. The owner was so warm and welcoming and the breakfast was outstanding! He served us what may have been the best croissant breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had and that’s saying something. We felt the pricing was great, the stay was comfortable and the food was on point.

The place feels like a home away from home.
The staff is friendly and welcoming. Our room is nice and clean but needs a little refreshing.
Breakfast is delicious.
They were very accommodating to our needs throughout the stays and with visitors.

This was an Interesting stay. Me and my husband planned to stay for two nights at the last minute, but after reading the reviews we changed it to one night (and we glad we did). There were several issues First, we booked the Ellicott room, however we noticed the next morning that we were given the incorrect room which was the the Banneker Room. The rooms are the same the only difference are the beds. If I would have never said anything to the owner(Joe) he would have not mentioned anything to us about the mix up.
Second , the room was extremely cold. There was no heat, the only heat was the fire place which is located in the bedroom. We were given one pack of logs which lasted for four hours. Third the lack of tv channels. There are only basic channels and the rest are HBO channels. We watch Netflix on our iPad for the night. The highlight of the evening was the jet tub and spending time with my husband. Luckily we had the heat from the tub keeping us warm because there is no heat in the bathroom.

The next morning, we were suppose to receive a three course meal. We received coffee or tea, fruit dish with yogurt and our main dish. We were not offered any assortment of juices. The only reason why we chose this place because it was listed in the Select Registry Book, which we found out as we were checking out that they are no longer apart of. I explained to the owner that it is listed on their website under how did you hear about us. He said that he will remove it.
Unfortunately, we will not be staying here again.

Lovely quaint hotel on a beautiful property. Easy check in and lovely old fashioned decor. I got a good night sleep and the gourmet breakfast was exquisite. The location is hard to see from the road but it is not far from downtown Ellicott City. Highly recommend this BandB!

I booked a room couple months in advance. However, when it was getting close the the date I booked, they sent me a cancellation notice without any explanation. I booked the room early on just so that I could make sure I will be able to have a place to stay. But, with their cancellation, I had to find a hotel room in a rush. Obviously, I will have to pay a higher price. Also, that made it so stressful for me.

Anyway, with this experience, I highly recommend not to use this hotel. I totally recommend to say NO to this hotel.

So disappointing, nice location and property that needs attention. Stayed on "first floor" i.e. the basement. Walkway had 6 out of 10 lights out. Gardens are weeds. US flags, from July 4?, are disgraceful lying in the dirt walkway. Outdoor setting cushions are disgusting. Shower in dire need of mold removal. Sheets are "historic" i.e. very worn. Room needs DEEP clean. Breakfast was ok. Host was affable.

My husband and I recently returned to the Wayside Inn (our first sty was in 2018) and we enjoyed it just as much! We stayed in the Margot Suite, which is small but very comfortable. The hostess was lovely, the inn is very comfortable, and the breakfast was amazing. We’ll definitely go back again.

Location was reason for our 3-night stay, minutes from the event we were attending. The place definitely needs some TLC. Dead plants in planters on windowsills, decor had dusty, indiscriminate knick knacks, and the landscaping and grounds were unkempt, run down - not welcoming. Breakfast, which was good, was the same each day. Bed was comfortable, but when I looked for an outlet nearby to charge my phone, the floor near the headboard was very dirty.

My out of town party was treated terribly. The male owner of this establishment was so rude, verbally accosting us for a minor misunderstanding on our part. Word of advice, take your business elsewhere. Such a shame, as the grounds were pretty.

Response from David B, Owner at The Wayside Inn
Responded Jul 25, 2018
Interesting. This person, who was NOT the person who booked the rooms or who stayed here, is complaining about one incident. The Bride booked two rooms for approximately eight people to get ready for a wedding. I let them check in early and they proceeded to get dressed for the wedding. The bride asked if it was OK if they used other rooms that were not being used AT THAT TIME, for her people to get ready. I told her that was not possible because the rooms would be occupied soon by other guests. Would YOU want your room to be used and messed up by someone else just prior to your checking in? While I was in the the kitchen downstairs, I could hear people in the room above me moving about...NOT the room that the bridle party was occupying. I went upstairs and upon inspection noted at least two ladies getting ready in another room. Was I upset? Yes! Was I rude? I do not thing I was. I just told them, "Ladies you need to get out of this room, it is not yours." The young lady (who I assume is the reviewer above, and again, did NOT stay here) said "Aunt X, this guy is yelling at us, we need to get out of here." Did I yell at them? Hardly. When I came up about 5 minutes later, they were STILL in there! I again asked them to leave. Again, the lady said, Aunt X, he is yelling at us again. So who was being rude here? By the way, reviewer, I did not charge your party for checking in early. I happily helped you take your luggage upstairs, even though your were not staying here! I did not charge them for getting ready in our rooms. I did not charge them for all the people having photography done all over the Inn and grounds. I did not charge them for having to clean up all the mess they just left in our beautiful Sun Porch, including boxes, vases, trash and almost invisible straight pins left on several tables and on the rug. Nor did I mention or was I rude about mentioning any of that to the the bride and Groom who actually DID stay here. I pride myself in my hospitality to all our guests, which is evident in the 100's of other reviews left on this site. Perhaps if you think I was rude, you might ask yourself if perhaps it was your actions and response that caused what you felt was rudeness.

Is the sleeper sofa comfortable for a 11 year old?
Answer from
Ellicott City, Maryland
Yes. It has a coil bed spring and then I put a down mattress on top of that before I put on the sheets and comforter. I had one young lady tell me that it was like "sleeping on a cloud!" I am not sure I would go that far, but no one has complained yet.

Hello Jenna, All the rooms do indeed lock. The Terrace Room is actually attached to the inn itself, although it is a newer addition. We stayed at the Wayside Inn between Christmas and New Year's Day and the Terrace room is a very cozy place for breakfast or just reading at night. I hope this helps. Best, Jerry
