Detailed Reviews
We love staying at The Hotel at UMD when we drop off and visit our kids who attend UMD. It's very nice and clean and a great location. Sometimes the line can be very long to check in, but I think you can check in online now. It can get a little pricey compared to other hotels, but It's location makes it worth it for us. I wish they had a full service restaurant in the hotel, but Bagels and Grinds and Potomac Pizza are very good. They are on the ground level outside the doors of the hotel. I have noticed it takes a while to get room service if you have a special request for extra towels or shampoo. Probably due to staffing issues.

Visiting UM on a College Road trip this hotel was a treat - Room was spacious and bed was extremely comfortable. It was also quite clean. Proximity to the university was perfect.
However, for the price we would have expected to at least have the restaurant open for guest convenience. There is not much open due to COVID and we had to travel just to eat.
I'm also going to mention something that really was a 'turn-off' to us. When we first arrived we were asked to make a $50 deposit and sign a contract that we wouldn't damage the room. This is something they must do for college students who tend to host parties in their hotel rooms. But we are adults accompanied by a teen. I really don't think this is necessary. We visited 6 other colleges and 3 other hotels and none asked us to sign such a waver.
All this said, we would likely stay here anyway if our daughter chooses MU.

Thank you for choosing to visit with us during your visit to College Park! We love our location directly across from the main gates of the University of Maryland, and glad you do too. As the only four-diamond property in the area, we are proud to offer an experience unlike any other in the area. We do appreciate your understanding in terms of our reduced amenities in the face of the national pandemic. While one of our on-property restaurants may not be available at this time, we are extremely fortunate to host other dining options both within our building as well as several others either a short walk or drive away. Our team works hard to ensure that all guests have a fantastic stay and our property is ready to provide that same level of stay to all guests who come in the future. Good luck on your college search, we hope to see you back again for years to come. Go Terps!

Really love this hotel across from the University of Maryland. My daughter was accepted to UMD and we were touring. The shower drained at a slow trickle and took 20 min to drain after an shower. We did not report as we were only there 1 night.

While staying at this hotel is was disappointed that the in room technology to control everything from lighting to heating and cooling was set on a poorly thought out platform. Trying to figure out the lighting panel led screens proved futile as they didn't even operate correctly once you figured them out. The in room system also would shut of the HVAC and lights despite being active and walking around in the room. I had to get up a dozen times over a few days stay to turn lights and air back on as it would shut off constantly.
I feel like their attempt to be environmentally conscious outweighed any attempt at making a guest comfortable. The last thing I want to do when staying at a moderately priced hotel is have to learn a system that doesn't function correctly and deal with being left in the dark.
There is no proximity to stores or the metro. The onsite meal options were fair at best. If I was you I'd look elsewhere for accommodations and you will be glad you did.

We are sorry to learn of your disappointment with elements of your guest room. Though we have been recognized as a LEED Gold certified hotel for the technology and sustainability features throughout the hotel, it is important to us that our amenities enhance our guests’ experiences. We are hopeful we will welcome you back in the near future to take advantage of our complimentary shuttle to the Metro and Marc station less than one mile from the hotel and to local restaurants, shopping and other points of interest within a three mile radius. Please note we are excited to share that we will be adding a new restaurant to the three we currently have at the hotel in late Spring. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

I am currently on my 5th and final day at this hotel, and I am extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service here with the exception of the service technician, Mersada, who is a Godsend.
I was originally booked for a 1 bedroom suite here but it had all sorts of electricity issues and no other suites were available so I was downgraded to a studio (but charged the same).
That didn’t bother me because I am really just here to work, but what has been truly upsetting is the fact that it’s impossible to get housekeeping to clean.
Firstly, no one mentioned to me at check-in that house keeping only comes if you call. This would have been especially helpful to know because they have a digital system in the room that allows you to press a “service” button indicating that your room needs to be cleaned. Intuitively one would think that calls them to clean your room.
After 3 days of pressing this button and returning each day to a room that had not been touched, I called the front desk and the guy explained to me that we need to call to request it. He said he was sending house keeping up right away so I left the room to come work in the Lobby. I saw house keeping in the hallway where my room was an assumed my room would be next since he said he was sending them to clean my room.
After working in the VERY loud lobby for over 3 hours, I returned upstairs only to discover my room had not been cleaned. I spoke to the house keeper in the hallway and she said she would only be cleaning check outs, not any current guest rooms.
This morning, I made ANOTHER attempt to get my room cleaned. The lady at the front desk said she would be sending someone “shortly”. I spoke to a member of the housekeeping staff in the hallway and they also confirmed they would call to make sure someone comes.
Well law and behold, 3 hours later, yet again…..nothing.
At this point, I am completely over it, and just want to leave.
The only saving grace and sole reason that I am giving this review any stars is because Mersada was truly amazing. She was the only staff member that cared when I was having issues and got me into a new room swiftly and went above and beyond to get me additional lighting so that I could work well despite their technical difficulties. She truly has a “can-do” , customer-centered, spirit and everyone else can stand to learn from her.
If you want to stay in a dirty room for the entirely of your stay then come here, but just know, house keeping will not come, and the front desk will not care.

Not only were the hotel lobby and surroundings fresh and clean, but my room was spotless! I couldn’t have asked for a more accommodating or friendly staff. Abby at the front desk set the tone for my visit from the outset. She was personable and professional and made me feel as if checking me in was the highlight of her day. Then when I saw her later in the lobby she remembered me and asked if I needed anything to make my stay any more comfortable. The hotel itself is modern and clean. Unfortunately the Old Maryland Grill was closed due to COVID, but the Potomac Pizza and Bagels & Grinds were open and served substantial portions at reasonable prices.

I needed a room for an afternoon basketball game at the University of Maryland. It correctly forecasted a snow event so made reservations. The front desk personnel were professional and engaging during the check-in. They gave us the lay of the complex and we went on our way.
The room was clean. Everything in the room worked. I appreciate the security in the hotel. Having key card with no reference to a room, the two elevator stacks one for parking access and one for guests is a plus. In addition the guests elevator stack only worked with a valid key card plus plus security. Hotel accommodations and security have come a long way from 40 years ago. Quality Hotel enjoy your stay here.

I was here for an event as part of a group. I arrived to check in around 1 pm & was told I could not check in until 4 pm (or I could pay $75 for early check-in, even though a room was ready). I came back at 3:50 pm and was told no one could check in until 4 pm. At 4 pm, there is a huge line of frustrated guests who have been waiting to check in. Seriously?!? What kind of hotel charges guests $75 to check in early (when the room is ready!) and then refuses to check them in 10 minutes before the “official” time??? I have never heard of such a thing and frankly, it’s quite disappointing that after a long day of travel, I either have to pay $75 or wait in an unnecessary (10+ people deep) long line to check in exactly at 4 pm. Please revisit your policies because this is not a great way to begin a hotel stay.

When booked, was not informed there would be a $50 hotel fee per night. Housekeeping did not come to the room the next day and when called front desk, was told we were supposed to receive a letter explaining we needed to request housekeeping services, and the letter was not provided to us. Front desk did not apologize for their lack of providing necessary information. Terrible customer service. Would NOT recommend.

I don't know if there is an onsite laundry
My understand is no. You have to confirm with them. But they said will give discount for UMD student's parent.
There is a complimentary shuttle at The Hotel that can take you to the Metro. You could also Uber although depending on the time of day there could be traffic.
The Hotel is happy to offer a complementary Shuttle to take you to and from the Metro. We also newly offer a car sharing service right from our garage if you wanted to rent a vehicle for a few hours!
