Detailed Reviews
We stayed in room 319. The views were great, but the hotel itself is very dated. The room had dirty carpet, the table tops were dirty, the water took 4min to get warm. The bedspread had a big stain. Thank God we had brought our own, and the fireplace (which is why we came) had to be turned on by staff and could not be turned off after they left- leaving the room feeling like a sauna all day and night. At almost $250 a night there wasnt even a microwave, and coffee is only available before noon. They literally stop making coffee right at 12 noon. Now for the restaurant. The prior reviews were true. There were ants everywhere in the windows and on all of the tables. One couple asked for a different table, and another simply left. We sprayed our table with the disinfectant I keep in my purse when traveling. The service was extremely slow even though they were not that full. We ordered tea and received water without the tea bag or sugar. I ordered home fries that got cold waiting for ketchup. But the omelette was okay. They would not pass inspection had a check been done that day. Although I read reviews citing mice thank God we did not see any. The ants were more than enough. We went back to the hotel and checked out early. The hotel manager apologized for our inconvenience and issued a discount. He truly attempted to fix matters. However, almost the entire 3 day trip had issues- from no coffee during the day, to no microwave in the room, to freezing shower and sink water. We will probably visit the area but stay in another hotel. We needed this break and was disappointed.

First time and probably last. Room was fine, similar to business-grade hotels such as Hilton Garden Inn, but over priced for location/time of year at $186/night (breakfast not included.) This is not really a resort. It is a hotel on the Chesapeake Bay with a man-made sand recreation area, adjacent to a charter fishing business. Parking garage had sign saying "Free Parking No Ticket Needed" and gate was permanently up. Pool had sign saying "The Pool Is Out of Order." Despite this, we were charged a Resort Fee which we were told was for parking, pool, public bathrooms, sauna, and beach access. When we asked to have the fee waived since parking was marked free and pool was not open, and bathrooms were available to anyone who walked in, we were told quite firmly that the fee was not negotiable. Room was not cleaned unless the door hang tag was put out, which we were not informed of and so did not get room serviced during our two-night stay. The two restaurants connected to the hotel were both good. Breakfast ordered off the menu in adjacent restaurant was good, as was dinner in the newer 1936 Bar & Grill. My recommendation would be to eat at the restaurants but stay somewhere else.

Stayed here for one night as a late Valentine celebration gift to surprise my boyfriend. The complimentary valet parking went well. The lobby space of the resort is not that large. We check in our room was ready. I pre-paid for a king room with a balcony. Went into the room everything appeared to be in order. We stepped out onto the balcony from our second floor room 206 and all I saw was air duct and heating systems metal everywhere. It was NO view I was mortified that they would even let a guest pay for this so called room with a balcony. I went down to the front desk immediately to request a new room and was told the hotel was full and that they may have a room without a balcony. Well I wanted the type of room that I paid to enjoy. I was told to think about it and call the front desk when I have made a decision. Well I called the front desk and was told the manager would call me back when she returned to the front desk. I received a call back 1 hour or so later by that time it was too late I had spa appointments scheduled. Our comforter had a dried blood stain on it that we noticed the next morning. To add to my disappointment the complimentary breakfast the resort offers was laughable they should just provide coffee and refer guest to the restaurant across the walkway. The resort needs some improvement. The spa was nice and the Rod n Reel Restaurant food was very good.

This resort was just awful. The website is so misleading. It is nothing like it lists.
There is absolutely nothing at this place to do. You can not even sit outside near the water unless you are eating at their over priced restaurant. There is not a beach there as they claim on their site.. The small bit of sand they do have there belongs to the property next to theirs and it is a no trespassing property. I was so disappointed with this weekend. 400.00 down the drain for absolutely nothing. They also offer free wifi which 99% of the time it did not work. Please don't waste your money on this place.

I don’t even know where to start, so I will just list each grievance separately. Washcloth on sink had a wad of long hair, which looked more like a weave. A hand towel on the rack had a long black hair. The mini fridge had the same long black hair. The inside of the toilet looked filthy. When we got back to our room after housekeeping “cleaned it,” which was a joke, the comforter looked like it was barely shoved under the mattress. The sheets had stains. The bathtub was not cleaned because shampoo was still in there. The miniature shampoo and cream rinse was replaced and no new bar of soap. There was mold underneath the soap dish in the tub. Not all of the towels were replaced. The toilet on the first floor hadn’t been flushed or cleaned. There was no water in either water fountain on the first floor. I have NEVER, EVER left a bad review, so it must be really disgusting for me to do so. I was physically ill from the wads of hair and dirty toilet in our room. The whole point of staying in a hotel is to feel like you’re being pampered, away from home. Extremely disappointing!!!!!

I do not recommend anyone ever staying at Rod N Reel Resort in Chesapeake Beach MD. The customer service is horrible. We booked a non-refundable room for our Anniversary. The pandemic has now gotten so bad that the governors have put new travel restrictions in place. I just spoke with Chris as the resort who told me they would not give us a refund in spite of the travel restrictions in place due to the pandemic.

Thank you for sharing your comments about your most recent expereince and the customer service that you recieved from Chirs regarding your non-refundable reservation. My apologies that Chris did not offer to move your accommodations to a differennt date as an alternative instaed of forfeiting your pre-paid reservation. As for the state of Maryland in watching the conference from our Governor there were no new travel restirictions put in place. One of the things we pride oursleves on here at the Rod 'N' Reel Resort is the health saftety for both our guests, and employees by following the strict guidelines from both the CDC and state level. We require all guests and staff members to wear mask, and well as social distancing and having outlets open to 50% only. Again, thank you for your feedback and have a great week. First time visited on this place and it will be the last time. My reservation stated it was a water-view room. Well it wasn't. The first thing I saw when opening the window was a view of the their little snack bar roof. if I leaned all the way to the left and put my face to the window, I did catch a glimpse of the marina and water. Also, they told us we would get a discount on the room and that never happened, Moral of the story; don't advertise a room with a water view when it is NOT. Customer service on this issue was not very welcoming. Not very happy with the stay.

Please save yourself the nightmare and DONT. GO.
The GM, Glen S. is incredibly rude and did not care for any of our complaints.
As far as the place itself - everywhere you go - the front desk, hallways, and even the rooms were infested with mosquitos. We constantly had mosquitos coming from the bathroom.
We received a call saying our room was ready and upon arriving to the room - the cleaning lady who seemed overworked was extremely upset we were there and said our room hadn’t even begun to be cleaned. She stormed to the front desk where a gentleman came up to the room and asked my parents and I if we could leave or wait in the front, despite me being obviously 7 months pregnant with plenty of luggage in our hand, failing to even offer to offer any sort of help with the luggage. Luckily, he conceded to letting us leave our luggage in the room closet. We said we didn’t mind waiting and he demanded me leave because it makes the cleaning lady feel rushed.
I barely slept at night because there were extremely loud people above us, stomping and jumping around to the point where our enemies room shuck. I called twice to complain and nothing happened. This went on till 4AM.
We had dinner at the bar located in their garage and that too was a TERRIBLE experience. Took forever to be served, flys everywhere, they left fly swatters at every table, food was cold, and they gave us plastic silverware which constantly snapped when we tried to cut up our food.
I wish I read these reviews before living this nightmare.

This was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. The manager on shift was patronizing and rude. We paid for non existent amenities. There was an event and we were expected to pay $15 for a wrist band to eat at the hotel we already paid for. While the owner stepped in and did not make us pay for the wristbands, they acted like a favor was done and the restaurant only had about 50% of the tables full anyone. Fast forward to the room. Carpets were filthy, the toilet had an ongoing leak, the bathroom smelled horrible and the room.was so humid the sheets were actually wet. This was meant to be an easy get away and should have never led to all of this, especially at paying $300 a night.

the first clue there’s a problem is you can’t even find the front door to the hotel.
there are several doors as you approach the premises. you don’t know which is the proper entrance. so, they don’t know anything about hospitality. the front desk staff were too young males dressed in a T-shirt. they didn’t seem to know how to check a guest in. lobby is cluttered with big furniture in the way.
The GOOD: it’s on the water. The restaurant food was rather decent but overpriced for the quantity I received. I bought a meal that cost 30 and I was still hungry so I bought another meal totaling paying $60. my rockfish was a ti y piece flat end piece. dining area was empty during the early afternoon. yet, the hostess had to go to the kitchen to get someone to seat me. the server seemed very inexperienced as well.
The BAD: there's a resort fee. the rooms are very outdated and old rundown needs maintenance. I had a balcony charged extra for it. it wasn’t worth the extra charge couldn’t really see the water and all I could see was construction of a new building and tops of air conditioning units. and there was a lot of noise.
The UGLY: the casino slots is very very dark and all the lights were turned off and the window shades were down. the layout was poorly designed. It was hot inside and poor air ventilation. the slot machines kept turning off and needed to be reset but you couldn’t find a worker to reset the machines. it was very annoying and distracting. no one wore a mask, and the machines were filthy and had tape holding parts in place.
The elevator to the upper floor slots area was very jumpy and made a lot of noise. it felt unsafe, and the stairs are very very steep. I recommend you to stay on the first floor.
overall. I did not feel welcomed.
