We stayed at the hotel during the July 4th weekend. We have stayed at this resort several times before and enjoyed our stays and therefore returned.

Things are different due to COVID, as in other hotels. The hotel used to have fun activities (such as cookie decorating, sudoku competition, cooking demonstration, etc) for the whole family, which are no longer offered. The pools are great, the large outdoor pool with the water slide is fun for kids. The adult pool is quieter and warm and has nice views of the bay. The indoor pool is great for rainy days and still has the 8 pm family movie. The bay is nearby but has jellyfish.

We ate at the restaurant, Water’s Edge Grill. The food was good but it was very cold inside and the service was extremely slow. We ordered from the snack bar by the pool. The hummus was a good value but the chicken tenders not so tasty. We also used the scanning option and ordered from the restaurant, it is a very convenient option.

It is nice that the hotel is so close to a Walmart (get your s’mores ingredients there). There are also nice restaurants downtown, we liked Ava’s pizzeria and Blackwater Bakery.

We did not like the dispensers of shampoo, conditioner and soap by the bathtub. The shampoo and liquid soap seemed as if they were the same, and all were low quality. I recommend that you bring your own products.

What I found very annoying is the lack of housekeeping and not making any attempt to attend to guests’ housekeeping needs. We stayed at the hotel for four nights and our trash was piling. We were told that you can leave your trash can inside and someone will pick it up. Someone did but did not replace the liner. Also, we stayed in a room with two queen beds that can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children. We had one face towel, 2 wash cloths and 4 bath towels. We could have used more face towels. I also think that housekeeping staff could stop by in the evenings and offer towels, sheets, empty trash, etc. sort of a turndown service but from outside your room. It would have made our stay much more enjoyable.

We all had a nice time and it was nice to be outside without a mask (anyone over 9 years old is required to wear a mask indoors, per state regulations), but for $570/night+$32 in resort fees the hotel no longer offers a good value.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights (Sun-Wed) as an anniversary getaway. As soon as we got into our room I was disappointed. Our $329 (+resort fee) a night “water view” room was more of a pool/tree view with peekaboo views of the river if you really stuck your head far enough out of the sliding door. The room was a decent size and clean. It had a ceiling fan which was nice. The bathroom was small and nothing special but the shower did have decent water pressure. Our biggest complaint was the food situation. While the “on demand ordering” from your phone for pick up (no room service & limited in restaurant seating) was appreciated, offering the same handful of overpriced menu items every single day was boring. A rotating menu would have been nice. By the second day of our trip we left the hotel for every meal. Nearby options were limited and the surrounding area of this hotel is sketchy at best. We did notice the high-touch areas of the pool deck were being sanitized constantly by staff. However, the ladies restroom at the indoor pool was gross. Toilets were stuffed with tissue and seat covers and it smelled terribly of urine. Like other reviewers have noted, this hotel seems more of a 3 star than 4.

Had a relaxing weekend stay after being full on at work as essential workers. Hotel was operating close to normal as possible under the “new normal.” Staff was pleasant and friendly. Some rooms need some upkeep after lack of use for an extended period. No housekeeping during your stay but any housekeeping needs were met by request promptly. Pools open but with social distancing and reduced capacity. Face masks required outside room but not on grounds if socially distant. Only disappointment was the food service. Dine in and to go via app options are available but menus seemed limited to the same appetizer, mains and desserts for all class of restaurants and bar/restaurant on the property. Condiments including salt, pepper ketchup, hot sauce; etc; etc; are all in small packets. We are saving lives and killing the environment. Maybe a limited menu at each venue but with a little variety would go a long way to a more enjoyable dining experience. On the up side drinks and cocktails were reasonably priced and well poured by friendly and attentive servers.

The property gives you the feeling of bygone better times. COVID has certainly hit the business, there is no housekeeping in the rooms, so beds are not made, bathrooms are not cleaned until you leave. Once you accept this, which is common everywhere because of COVID, you would thing that everything else, like the common areas, would be kept spotless. Not here. The hallway to our room has never been vacuumed (we have been here for 4 days), the areas around the pool had plastic cups been left over for the entire day.
The staff is generally kind but totally not trained.
The hotel decor and furniture is in need of a major remodeling.
Playing golf has been a nightmare, one day the course was closed, one day the driving range was closed. Anyone, expert players or families with kids who want to hit the balls and have no place on the course as they obviously do not know the rules, is allowed to go.
There are no decent restaurants nearby (unless you settle for the usual fast food chains).
The price we were charged ($400+/night) is excessive for the kind of place and service that is offered.
Definitely not going back.

BEWARE, during the COVID they are still charging a resort fee. However, right now, you will not have maid service during your stay and if you need refills of anything, ie coffee, cups, towels, toiletries..you must call down and request. It is all self-service. Only one restaurant is open with a limited menu but they are still determined to charge the resort fee of $ 27.00/day. Was told they would not remove the charge even though the quality of care was certainly not resort standard. Was not looking for a favor just asking for fairness.

Coming to the resort we were prepared to notice some changes due to Covid like limited seating at restaurants and the pool, and a more hands off type of stay to help with distancing. What we have seen thus far is restaurant menus sliced down to bare bones items, and a general lack of preparation for reopening alongside the pandemic. While they claim that chairs by the pool will be wiped down after each use we have seen that not be the case with several people coming and going and not an employee or cleaning to be seen. While the bellhop lending a hand at check-in is a helpful, it would be nice to see them wear gloves while handling guest items. A big part of our vacations and trips is the food while we are there and to see all of the items we were looking forward to removed from the menu it really took away from the experience and left a great resort feeling more like a holiday inn.

Visitor be warned the menus online will not be what you see here and the safety precautions mentioned are not properly prepared to enforce.

My husband and I came here for a few days to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The resort it beautiful. I think it was just refurbished and the decor is really pretty. It was immaculately clean (there was always someone cleaning something somewhere anytime of day). The pools were really nice and we loved watching the sunset in the adult only hot tub. The breakfast was good and staff we encountered at any location throughout the resort were all helpful and super friendly. That being said, much was different due to COVID. There was no maid service. Their fancy restaurant was not open. This sucked because when we go away we like to dine in nice places. Since the surrounding area is very basic there wasn't somewhere fancy to eat. I am used to hotels of this caliber having fruit water in locations and complimentary daily bottle waters in the room, but again, I am guessing COVID affected all this. The spa was also only open Wed-Sat. I really think they might have charge a little less than a regular rate for their rooms due to so much being closed or not offered - but they didn't. I also didn't like that they charge $10 per night to park. This is common practice in city hotels where parking spaces are minimal. But they have a ton of ground so to charge paying clients additional fees is just petty. Overall it is a wonderful resort with wonderful employees and I would love to try it again when things are a bit more normal in the world.

My family came together after not seeing each other for many months at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Resort.
Being Hyatt top of the line Globalists, we expected better recognition upon check in.
The rooms were adequate with river views, but could definitely use updating.
I was Covid ready with all of my own sanitizing and disinfecting sprays and wipes. I’m very glad I did since we felt the hotel did not maintain enough cleaning protocols. There was hand sanitizer stands throughout the hotel....but they were not filled when empty.
There is no real housekeeping due to Covid hotel mandates.....only every 4 days upon request so you have to request more towels etc from housekeeping.
There are 2 restaurants but they have the same menu with no changes from day to day. This was unacceptable. There is a convenience market with sandwiches, drinks, ice cream etc. which was great. Despite this, whatever meals we had at the hotel were very good. Breakfast was a semi buffet which is served to you as well as omelets made to order.
The pools were not overly crowded because the resort is only at 50% capacity because of Covid.
I rarely saw the chairs being cleaned when vacated. I’m happy I brought my own sprays.
The resort looks tired severely in need of an update. Actually, things looked a little shabby......
There is no valet parking, but Globalists parking is very nearby.
Nevertheless we all had a good time.

As we stopped in lovely St. Michael’s on the way down we only really had 1 ½ days at the Hyatt so my review has to be understood with that context.
We upgraded to a Petite Jr. Suite which is a larger room with a sitting area & loved the balcony looking out over the water. The bed was so comfy. There was a nice table/desk & the TV could be swiveled.. As with most hotels they have done away with the little bottles in the bathroom to the dispensers which were fine.
There are 3 pools (1 more since I was there). I did love the infinity pool. The activity pool with the water slide was popular with kids (as was the inside pool -note that the walls open up (like a garage). There is also a new large adults only hot tub that my husband enjoyed)
All the staff we encountered were friendly & wore masks properly. Our package (booked through a travel agent) included breakfast at Waters Edge with the “served buffet”) & included omelets delivered to the table. I liked the open air bar by the water by the infinity pool. Mike was great & there was always water set out for the grabbing.
Grounds were great for walks by the water & on the long dock. Wish we had time for all the activities! I missed the Blue Point Provision Company not open now. Next time.
Does the building need some sprucing up in places? Yes, but it didn’t bother me during this year.
The country is in flux and everything is changing and I hope to return to this lovely getaway and experience more during better times.

We have stayed at this Hyatt property several times in the past, and we have always enjoyed our stays. However, this past stay of three night was most unpleasant. Upon checking into our room, which had an overnight cost of over $450.00, we found our bathroom did not have bath towels, only two pool towels which was not sufficient for two adults and two children. Our room was not serviced the next morning (after our first night's stay). When we called, we were told that if we wanted our room "made-up", we should have requested it when we checked in. With two adult and two children, our beds needed to be changed, trash emptied, e.g. we had soiled disposable diaper. We were told that we would have to wait till the next day for service, and only after a lengthy and unpleasant conversation did the hotel agree to service out room. On Day 2, we had to search out a house cleaner (in the hall) to get fresh bath room towels for that day. During our stay, we could not locate a working ice machine. On night 2, our room air conditioner stopped working, and we had to call maintenance to have it "fixed". Also, we were never told that reservations would be required to dine in the hotel restaurant, and we were turned away for dinner. At this point, I don't feel positive about staying at this hotel again.

We had a very pleasant 4 days there at the end of August. I was not aware of any bad reviews before I went, we were happy with the room, the service and the facilities. All I would say is that some areas perhaps require a lick of paint and our balcony needed weeding. For the money we paid, I would have expected no weeds on my balcony. One night in the bar area, due to the fact they had a large conference taking place there, there were a lot of people and we had to wait a while for our drinks and meal, it was obviously down to a lack of bar and waiting staff.

We went this summer prior to the new surge and really didn’t feel the resort was doing anything to protect guests. Other than our daughter, there were only two other kids I saw wearing masks in the hotel. We were able to keep ourselves separated from others in the pool. They did not offer room service as a dining option so we used door dash, but there were not many choices other than fast food. More of a concern than the unmasked guests was that when we went in July, very few staff wore masks and no one at the hotel was willing to explain if that meant they were all vaccinated. I would not personally go back at this point.
