They gym is small but sufficient as well - two treadmills, a bike, and some free weights.
The location of the hotel is perfect - you're within walking distance to Town Place Center, a great little outdoor shopping mall with lots of great stores and restaurants. Additionally, there is a pond behind the hotel with a decent running/walking trail around it that is nice as well. The area is safe and the hotel itself is very secure.
The only reason I did not rate this a "5" is because of the manager. Although the rest of the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, I did have a problem that I was trying to get resolved. Because of the manager's personal mistake and lack of communication, I was charged when I shouldn't have been. After many, many phone calls and visits to the front desk, the manager still would not call me back despite having told the rest of the staff that he'd spoken with me multiple times. He is apparently at the hotel very rarely, as I did go to the front desk 3-4 times during the week and then tried calling when the staff said he'd be in. He never was. After the issue was resolved (thanks to another member of the staff) not once after the fact did the manager apologize or compensate me for the repercussions from my bank. In fact, I still have yet to hear from him. Luckily his poor example does not seem to be having an effect on the rest of the staff.
Located behind the bowie town center mall, this is one of the mid/low range Marriott properties. The rooms are relatively small with old furnishings. You have to get through a maze of doors to get to your room! Cant complain too much about their room rate - very inexpensive for this part of the country. But you will get what you pay for.
Parking and internet are free (although slow), breakfast consists mostly of cereal and boiled eggs.
The mall restaurants are within walking distance but there are no gas stations or convenience stores nearby.
My complaint with this place lies mostly in its soundproofing. The place is brand new (well, a year old) and cheaply constructed. There was obviously zero efford put into soundproofing. This place does not attract business travelers but rather tends to have families and couples staying for a while. You _constantly_ hear _everything_ from domestic disputes to kids screaming/running up and down the hallway to rap music, etc. I was woken up more than once in the wee hours, _through_ earplugs. If you're travelling on business and don't care about having cooking facilities, there are better choices in the area. If you're going to be staying for a while then do what I did and put up with the noise.
- efficient check-in
- great wireless
- easy to get to rooms
This place failed on all three. The staff was friendly enough but clearly overwhelmed. you have to go through a maze of doors to get to your room and the wireless was very slow and keep kicking me offline.
Also, you have to walk through a cloud of smoke from a smoking gazebo just to get in the front door.
I wont be back.
Upon arrival, the room appeared spotless, minus the wall stains of grease etc., until I looked under the bed where I found items from a previous guest, which I delivered to the front desk, at which time I requested a vacuum so I could vacuum under the beds myself. The mattresses have absolutely no support, it may even be unhealthy for your back.
Another thing I noticed is that once the A/C is turned off you begin to smell a strange odor in the room...and it doesn't go away until you turn the A/C back on.
The parking lot has extremely poor lighting, and it's unsafe considering the location of the hotel, with the back practically in the woods. Some spots are so dark, you can't see your hand in front of you.
They only have an outdoor pool, that doesn't look very clean. I asked the lifeguard about the pool, and she advised that nobody uses it anyhow.
This hotel does not have wireless internet, and the connection that they do have is very slow.
One night while staying there, I watched the security guard get out of his personal vehicle, walk over to a bush, unbuckle his belt/pants and proceed to urine in the bush. I couldn't believe it was happening because he saw me pull up in my car. That was disturbing.
There are children running around with no supervision, and it appeared like they just lived in the hotel, meaning they were not there due to an insurance loss...they were just there.
There is no real breakfast, just cold cereal, a few bottles of orange and apple juice, instant oatmeal packets, and some muffins in plastic.
The furniture is old and damaged, they have tube televisions with a few Comcast channels, and one HBO channel.
I reported insects in my two bedrooms and the maintenance guy came up to my room and sprayed (Hot Shot insect spray from Wal-Mart) in the kitchen over my recycle/disposable paper plates, and plastic bowls, my pots, and food. And it's funny because he didn't get the bedrooms, although that's where I reported the bugs.
I had reason to believe that they came in your room, even when you had the do not disturb/busy tag on the door. Looking down the hallways reminded me of The Shining.
I honestly believe the cleaning staff does a good job, considering what they have to work with, and the front desk staff appeared to be very pleasant.
