Guests commend the hotel for its cleanliness and proximity to beaches, but opinions on value are mixed, with concerns over costs and service. Detailed Reviews
My wife and I stayed here over Labor Day 2021 and overall enjoyed our stay. The positives first: We loved the location which made walking to the beach right out in front of the hotel or the town extremely easy and convenient. The restaurant attached to the hotel was very good both nights we dined there. The room we had, 401, was right above the restaurant vents and was extremely loud and not recommended. Thankfully, the staff was accommodating and moved us the second night of our stay and we ended up with an ocean view room which was perfect (room 410). The negatives: The hotel was overall a nice hotel, but it is older which normally would be okay, but for the price we paid per night, we expected a little more. The town itself was okay. More like a typical tourist beach town then a small quaint Maine seaside village we had expected. The beach itself was not bad, just a little bit on the small side and can become overly crowded quickly. There is a larger beach nearby, but that would require a short drive from the hotel to enjoy. Overall a good stay, with only a few negatives.

I've never paid $500 a night for a hotel and for that amount of money I guess I expected a bit more luxury. The location is of course nice, but we also stayed at another hotel 2 nights before for $350 a night and they were right on the beach, not across the street (but that hotel was a little dated, but very nice, very clean and we felt their location warranted their $350 a night). Overall the Union Bluff is a very nice hotel and the people were all very nice, I just felt it was overpriced. Also we were in the Meeting house building in the Deluxe King room on the 3rd floor and our balcony was nice and big, but there were 2 other balconies, one on each side of us and the guests to the left of us could see right into our room while they were out on their balcony so we didn't really have any privacy unless we closed the curtains but who wants to do that when you're paying $500 a night for the view??? Also, they offer a continental breakfast but they don't make it easy for you to grab something quick to take up to your room because if you're in the Meeting house building where we were, you have to walk over to the main building to get the breakfast.

Thank you for your review. I am glad to hear that you found our hotel to be in a nice area with nice people. The balconies on our meeting house rooms are shared which make them great for wedding guests staying in that building. We do offer buildings in our main building which do have private balconies as well

I had printed out the menu for the restaurant, but it wasn't open when we arrived, so we agreed to eat in the pub. We sat under the TV, probably not the best location, as I saw many other dinners choose the view of the ocean. However, I was concentrating on the food. My husband had the Fish Tacos (12.95) and was quite happy with them. My son had the Calamari appetizer (12.95) which he liked, and a Bluff burger (15.25), which he was unimpressed with. I had the Haddock Reuben, which was so bad I ended up taking it home to deconstruct it and just eat the fish (15.95). My daughter had the Caesar Salad (8.50) which she said was typical and finally my husband had the Sirloin Tips (19.95) which he also liked. Altogether, however, we weren't blown away by the menu, and our server was the bartender, so it was a bit slow and I felt like we were an afterthought. I also had the Lump Crab Cake for an appetizer (14.50) and felt it was a little wet. I've had a ton of crab cakes along the NE coast, and this was by no means the best, or the worst either. But we paid over a $100 for the privilege of eating pub food, which I felt was a little much for what we got. Would not go again.

My wife and I wanted a 2 night get a way. We pick Union Bluff based on locations and reviews. Pros: Great staff, kind, understanding and helpful. Location, only 50 steps from the front doors. VERY clean, but..... Parking was good, no problem. No indoor or outdoor pool, so on a rainy day all you can do is spend money in the local shops.
Cons: Bathroom extremely small, floor size about 3.5' x 4.0' plus tub. Rugs very well used. Damage to walls and around bath area sink. Extremely over priced for the room we had, we have done a lot of international travel, and for the price, this hotel was not worth it. The food (both breakfast and dinner) was very good, but again over priced. The walls and ceiling are so thin that you can clearly hear the discussion in the next or upper room, awful. Do the Pros out number the Cons, no! Would we return, unlikely.

The room was booked in January for an August wedding. It was extremely expensive. Upon arriving we noticed that the "lounge" was 4 chairs and a round table. Each chair was always occupied. We were sent to the second floor which was more like the basement floor. Upon getting into the room we opened the curtains to see cars lined up in front of our window. Needless to say we kept our curtains shut for privacy. The room was mediocre at best. We listened to the elevator go up and down all night long.We were there for a wedding and when the Bride asked about our stay we didn't really want to tell her. Her accomodations were regal and I guess she thought that our room was as nice as hers; it wasnt The pub restaurant was very, very expensivse as well unless you don't mind paying $33.00 for a piece of Haddock. We had little communication with Front Desk employees. The Breakfast room, although Complimentary was F air at best.It seemed as if people weren't trying to be interested unless you were part of the Bridal party. This was for a wedding , we love the Bride and the Groom, otherwise we would have stayed elsewhere and had a better experience. The price seemed too high for what we received. ....very disappointed. Other people thought it was great....what were they looking at?

My wife and I rented an Ocean front view with a deck . The check in lobby is really small and sits between the pub entrance and the restaurant entrance. They actually bring food through the lobby when serving the pub patrons, which is weird to be getting on an elevator and food being brought through lobby.
The room was as advertised with an ocean front view of short sands beach. Gorgeous view and the large deck had 2 chairs, a table and two stools. There was also a roof on this deck, which came in handy since it was raining. The interior of the room was not very large. About enough room for the Queen bed and able to walk on each side. The bathroom had a separate sink area and shower room.
Overall the hotel was really nice and you pay for the ocean view and to be close to the beach and downtown area. Going to sleep to and waking up to the sound of the waves crashing was fabulous. We will definitely try and get back again when it is warmer weather.

What a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location! The Union Bluff is located on the beach in downtown York and has plenty of free parking at the rear of the building. The hotel is about a 15 minute drive from I95 and a five minute drive to the Nubble lighthouse. We stayed in room 405 which is a queen bedroom with an ocean front view and a fabulous balcony/sun deck overlooking the beach. The bed was very comfortable and the room came equipped with a fridge, coffee maker and in room safe. The hotel has a nice bar and restaurant and courteous staff. We loved the room and hope to stay again in the future!

The room we had was “ocean view”. There was a sliding door in and out of the room and one window with a window AC installed. Unfortunately our neighbor smoked the entire time outside our door so we could not sit outside or even keep the door open with the screen. Overpriced and very standard.

I do hope this is read by someone at the facility. Have been going here for many years and one of my favorite places to stop in for lunch or dinner because of consistent quality of food and service . I was very disappointed with the changes in the menu, half of what it used to be. My husband had the haddock dinner and it was the tail end of the haddock so not great tasting and chewy. I thought maybe a fluke but I had the haddock sandwich and it also was a tail end of the fish and very chewy and rubbery. Pricey for the quality of the food. On a positive note the service was great and the chowder delish. I am wondering if the faculty is under new owners and with that quality suffered. Will give it another try in a month or so and that will determine if I will continue to visit after that.

Union Bluff is a lovely little hotel with a beautiful location overlooking Short Sands beach and just steps from downtown York Beach shops.
The Deluxe King suite was spacious and comfortable for our family of four, using the pull out bed and a cot. The decor is a bit drab and dated, but it is very clean and comfortable.
The complementary continental breakfast was a nice convenience and offered adequate selection. We ordered lunch to go and enjoyed it at the beach. Everything was delicious, especially the Cobb salad with the signature crab dressing.
We appreciated daily housekeeping and found all the staff pleasant and accommodating. Overall, we had a wonderful time and loved the location and proximity to the beach. Would definitely stay here again!

We don't have live music in our Pub or Grill. Thanks for your inquiry.
Room 353 is a nice room with a large lounging deck and direct oceanview. Rooms 353, 354, 355 are all similar. BEWARE of rooms 351 and 352 they look out over the rooftop of an arcade and do not have a direct oceanview, nor a lounging deck.
Thank you for your inquiry.
Our main Hotel building has an elevator to the upper floors. Our Meeting House has an elevator to the guest rooms on the 3rd floor. Our Annex Motel does not have an elevator, but as a guest posted, there are rooms on the 1st floor.
We enjoyed our visit in December....by then the shops along the water were closed, but there will likely be a good number still open when you plan to arrive. We found our room comfortable (make sure you get one in the main building, and on the ocean side) and the breakfast in the restaurant was very nice. A fun, free thing to do is to take the coastal route down to Kittery Point and explore Fort McCleary...the ruins of an 1812 era fort that is full of places for kids to explore. It overlooks the harbor, so the views are nice as well. Enjoy your visit..I hope this helps.
