Lafayette's Oceanfront Resort is directly on Wells Beach, one of the largest sandy beaches in Maine. We have a complex of nine different buildings, five of which sit right on the beach. Many of our rooms have private balconies with panoramic views of the ocean. We are open year round so you do not need to miss any season. Although summer is certainly the most popular season in Maine, the beauty of this coastal area is enchanting throughout the year. Wells Beach is fun for families. Walk from your room onto the sand to swim, build sand castles, stroll in the surf looking for shells and rocks or just relax and enjoy the feel of the sun on your face while you enjoy the view. The indoor pool and the hot tub with a waterfall are very relaxing after a hot day in the sun. The playground and the arcade will entertain the children after the beach.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We have stayed there on a few occasions now. We enjoy the suite with the whirlpool bath and massage chair very much. The beds are amazingly comfortable. The shower is spectacular and spacious with different dual shower heads and a seat in each end to sit. It's great and relaxing to sit in the massage chair in front of the fireplace after getting out of a relaxing bath. I love that they have adult swim time in the evenings as well. Can't wait to go back. Great local place to get away for the night.

I was a little skeptical at first as they don't take reservations on the internet and some of the photos don't look the best but...... by far blew my expectations out of the water. on very short notice we were able to get a wonderful room with a partial ocean view. and the staff was outstanding and very accommodating. As i have never been to main before i didn't have any idea of good things to do or places to eat, the staff gave us great ideas and well appreciated. the location is perfect because its right on the ocean, and we were 15 minutes by car south of OOB and we were 15 minutes north of York so we were able to visit all places. This Location has everything you will need if you just wanna stay right there and relax and its close enough to everything to go out and enjoy. will be staying there again very very soon

My wife and I spent 5 days in February at the Lafayette Resort in Wells and had a wonderful, quiet time louging at the pool and walking the beach. Our room was right on the ocean and at night we'd leave the patio door slightly open to hear the waves. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. Great time and we'd go again.

We have been staying at Lafayettes two to three times a year for more than twenty years (with the exception of 2020 when we only stayed once thanks to the pandemic), we love the location, the quality of the rooms varies depending on the building but generally we enjoy our stay. This year we took the entire family and rented one of their vacation homes, One Particular Harbor, for the week (last week) and we were not happy. Our week began with a small flood in the kitchen due to a leak in the island sink, an air conditioner and ceiling fan in the master bedroom that did not work and a half eaten pizza under one of the beds and used plasticware under a couch. It took two days and two calls to get a response from maintenance. We also then found out that the handles for the crank out windows were stripped so no opening and closing windows, the house is described as partially air conditioned which means there is a small window air conditioner in the three bedrooms, so opening and closing windows became an issue on the hotter days. We had planned on eating most of our meals at the house to avoid too many public spaces (member of the family is a chef) but quickly found that the stove did not work properly, especially the oven which barely worked at all. And finally we had to pay for extra parking as we had family coming and going at various times during the week, this was not an issue as we expected this. When obtaining the cards for the overflow parking I was told that when the cards were returned the $25 deposit for the card would be returned. I collected all of the cards and returned them to the office on the day we left and was told 'no refund' since the card was not returned on the day the family members left (one paid for five days and only stayed three but I was certainly not expecting a refund for that, just a return of the deposit). I explained to the desk clerk that no one had told me that and got the classic 'I will pass that along' response. Needless to say this ended the week on a vary sour note.
Based on location alone I know Lafayettes has no problem filling their rooms and will continue to do so for many years but I strongly suggest that anyone considering a vacation home rental may want to think twice. Between the rental, fees, taxes and parking we spent about $8,500 and were extremely disappointed.

The room was disgusting, like no bare feet on the carpet clean, with a weird smell that hit you every time you walked into the room. Of course they were sold out and couldn't accommodate a change of rooms, but it was more like you only booked it a few days ago, what do you expect kind of attitude. Check-out day, we packed up the car and went to Congon's Doughnuts.. OMG THE BEST donuts so many options, the line went pretty quick. we went back to the beach to eat them and enjoy the last few hours, took the kids back up to the room to use the bathroom and housekeeping was already in the room. We hadn't even handed in our keys yet. She said we could not enter the room, I told her the kids are using the bathroom they will be a few minutes.. she went screaming down the hallway "I hate these F'in people" and continued to walk away from me. mind you I had left the towels and trash together in one spot and left a tip for hsk. The room was exactly how I left it and the tip was already in her pocket. My cell phone started ringing, as I entered the reception area I could see this angry looking lady on the phone, I asked her if she was calling me? I got "Yes, hand over the keys" it was 11:08AM I was shocked at her aggressive approach. Seriously no need to be so rude. As I walked away she was yelling at me in front of others, that I was rude for not checking out on time. I could not believe what I was experiencing, it was absolutely dreadful not the best way to end a quick family getaway.

We have been coming to the Lafayette Resort in July for the past 20 years for a full week with our extended family, having stayed in a variety of rooms & cottages. Most of the rooms are literally at the ocean's edge, with balconies & beautiful views. The resort is surrounded by many village shoppes & eateries & the famous Forbes Restaurant, serving meals, snacks, & ice cream, of course!!
The office staff is always so welcoming, friendly, & helpful--it actually feels like coming back to see "old friends" again. If there is ever any questions or concerns (which is seldom), the staff is very prompt in addressing any situation and quickly remedied. The rooms are very pleasant & spacious with many amenities. The housekeeping staff is superb, as well, with the rooms being very clean & well-stocked.
And when we must check out on the Saturday at 11am at the end of our week, our only regret is that it will now be another full year before we return to this beautiful place. Once again, many thanks to all the Lafayette staff for adding to such a wonderful vacation experience!!

We've been to Wells Beach many times and have stayed at this property many times as well. Have always had a pleasant experience. This time was not tho. We stayed at the Oxcart for a 1 night stay and had housekeeping walking in at 930am while my husband was packing, I was in the shower and my toddler was sleeping. No knock, just pushed the door open - it was cracked since my husband was packing the car.
Upon calling to mention this situation, Toni at the front desk was extremely confrontational and rude as if it was my problem that housekeeping walked in on us.
Guests/ tourists should never be treated this way! I work at a ski resort hotel and when situations similar to this happen- we make it right, not blame the visitor! This has put a nasty taste in our mouths and we will not be staying with this lodging company again!

We stay here a few times a year and the staff are always wonderful and the views can be beat. The rooms have everything you need, Keurig with Green Mtn cups, microwave, fridge, Bath and Body works products. This time we stayed in room 211 which was awesome. Love the fact that they do not allow pets. Only negative (and this is a personal preference) is the beds are a little too soft for us.

This was our third time staying at Lafayette's and it's been excellent every time. This time, the upgrades were evident as our room had new carpeting. You cannot beat the location of the oceanfront rooms, perfect for sitting on the deck and watching the sunrise or just relaxing throughout the day. The beach is just steps away, so it's very convenient. This was the first time we visited the pool area, which has a nice, private changing area and is very clean. The hot tub was amazing. The front desk staff members are friendly and accommodating and there are lots of great restaurants and other attractions nearby. Highly recommended!

My wife and I traveled in August for our anniversary. We had reservations for a recently renovated room with a partial ocean view. We were given a room that looked like it was from the 1950's, complete with paneled walls. It had a view of a building wall, since we were beside the stairs leading from the parking lot. Sitting on the deck was like being a Walmart greeter, saying hello to people coming and have a nice day to people leaving. When I asked why I was not given the room we reserved, I was told the room was double booked. I find this hard to believe. I think someone wanted to extend their stay or maybe they had a worse room than I was given and they gave them ours. We were told we could have the room we were promised the next day. Normally, for a two day stay, we would have just said it's not worth it to pack everything up and move. We did and that's the reason it got 3 stars instead of 1. The room was beautiful and we could see the ocean. The worst part was we were told the rooms were the same price, which makes no sense.

Hello. I honestly don't recall the spacing between the railings. They must have been within code as the spacing didn't give me pause to think. I looked at the pictures we took from our room and, of course, snapped the shot above railing height to keep it out of the photo. Wish I could be of more help - eacv
