We had a wonderful, though short stay at the Black Lantern B&B. The host and hostess were very welcoming, offering our choice of sitting areas to have a cocktail before heading into Brunswick for dinner. We had a room at the back of the house overlooking their beautiful , flowering property extending down to the Androscoggin River. The room was cheery, large and very clean.
We enjoyed conversing with the host and hostess who were friendly and outgoing. The breakfast was outstanding--, coffee, fresh fruit, juice and scones followed by an apple pancake and eggs. We highly recommend the Black Lantern B&B, and only wish that we would have discovered it earlier!

Thanks for your very kind comments. It was fun having you stay with us. Most guests are pleasantly surprised by the nice water view we have on our in-town property. Glad that you enjoyed the breakfast. While we change the menu daily it is always a full breakfast and freshly cooked for you at your breakfast time.

The proprietors welcomed us to their establishment on a Friday afternoon. We immediately felt at home. Surroundings are very comfortable - breakfasts were excellent and were made with special dietary needs in mind. The grounds are lovely. Handmade quilts decorate many of the walls of this home. After a four day stay we are looking forward to the next time .

This is a lovely b&b in a beautiful setting with an experienced host who offered us warm hospitality and one of the best breakfasts we have ever had! Tom communicated promptly and gave us important detour information due to local road closures well in advance of our travel date. The room facing the back of the property has wonderful natural light and view of the grounds. A lovely experience and one we hope to repeat. Thank you, Tom!

The Black Lantern was a joy. Judy and Tom Connelie were quintessential hosts. Upon our arrival, Tom gave us a rundown on the facilities and provided ideas on where to eat. We stayed in the Fireplace Room, which has a gas fireplace installed for the cooler months. The room was appealing and thoughtfully decorated. Every possible detail was accounted for. We lacked for nothing (not to mention the M & M's in the hallway). Breakfast was excellent! If you want to relax in a chair with a view of the Androscoggin River, that is available also.

Very comfortable room. Three walls of windows, lovely breeze, slept like a baby. Warm and friendly hosts made helpful recommendations for dinner and dessert in nearby Brunswick. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the dining room and had a great time chatting with the other guests. Top notch experience all around. Will be back! Thank you!

This is a gem. I’ve read the previous reviews about Tom and Judy extolling their wonderful hospitality— I concur and suggest you read the reviews—almost all of which mention the proprietors by name which says a lot. This review will concentrate on ambiance. If you are looking for a truly authentic Maine B&B experience, look no further. The 160 +++-year old house that over looks the beautiful Androscoggin River is a treasure in itself. The rooms of the house including the bedrooms have retained their charm and authenticity, yet the bedrooms feature air conditioning (which I didn’t use on a hot July night due to a wonderful natural cross breeze) , private baths that were obviously not part of the original structure, but are very comfortably up to, perhaps beyond, modern standards. A comfortable “period” room and an exceptionally delicious hot breakfast—that’s why you choose a B&B over a hotel. And the rates are exceptionally low! We spent only one night. Attended the Maine State Music Theater’s production in Brunswick (1 mile away) , preceded by a great dinner at Richard’s (also highly recommended). We enjoyed a glass of brandy that we had brought with us in one of the parlors upon our return. There is a reason why this establishment is a 5-star review by so many guests.

My daughter who lives in Boston, and I the mother who lives in Orono, met at the Black Lantern to attend a wedding and to visit. The Inn is lovely . It is carefully appointed with tasteful furniture and decorations, has a tremendous garden and waterfront view of the Androscoggin River, and has the kindest host and hostess one could imagine. Along with the peaceful views of the River, the other high point was the absolutely wonderful breakfast that was served -- a really memorable meal. We so enjoyed our stay that we plan on having it be a half way meeting point for our visits in the future.

This is a hidden gem. We needed a place to stay while in transit from Georgetown, ME to Portland. Tom called prior to our visit as we thought we would be arriving late evening. Turns out we arrived around 9 pm. He greeted us when we arrive, showed us around and our room. He also explained how breakfast works. What a comfortable home. I felt like we were visiting relatives we hadn't seen in a while! Breakfast was delicious! Fresh made to order food starting with fruit, coffee / tea / juice and a wonderful mix of eggs and a fluffy item with fresh fruit compote. A pleasant treat when compared to a hotel chain. if you're ever passing this area, take the time to stay here!

Thanks for your very kind comments. Glad you liked the breakfast. We have always believed that serving a great breakfast in a nice setting is an integral part of the B & B experience. While we change the menu daily all are completely homemade and we get great feedback on them all.
