#1 of 4 B&Bs / Inns in Stonington
Travelers' Choice
OPEN YEAR ROUND Known for its unique charm and spectacular view of the Penobscot Bay islands, the Inn on the Harbor on Deer Isle offers a perfect romantic waterfront retreat. Built in the 1880s and perched right on the edge of picturesque Stonington Harbor, this bed and breakfast captures the very essence of Maine's Downeast island life. Ten of the thirteen individually decorated guestrooms face the sea and enjoy gorgeous views of Isle au Haut, the Windjammers and the island's fishing fleet. Guests can relax on the spacious flower-covered deck extending out into the harbor and enjoy the tide rising and falling beneath the Inn. They can fall asleep to the sound of nearby Mark Island Light's foghorn and wake up to the lobstermen heading out to sea. Several of our rooms have wood burning fireplaces and/or private decks. Our accommodations are relaxed and comfortable, all with private baths and sitting areas. The coastal atmosphere, with fresh salt air and brilliant sunny skies, encourages many of our guests to simply put their feet up and relax while watching Stonington's bustling waterfront. This is Maine's Downeast island life at its best.

I barely want to write this review, as I would prefer to keep this a secret, lest perhaps I have a hard time getting a reservation for my next (and the next, and the next and the next) stay. Wedged into such a beautiful setting the Inn on the Harbor offers a gorgeous view, spacious and immaculately kept rooms. Dana, the innkeeper, has a wonderfully caring presence and seems to read minds, arriving with just what is needed moments after I had the thought. She is a conscientious host, thoughtful and present in a manner that gives expanded meaning to the term hospitality. Stonington (somehow) has been able to avoid the crass over touristification (I made that up) that many seacoast towns have suffered. A wonderful experience. Go.

The hotel is right on the water with full few of the bay. The staff was super nice and made my stay easy and comfortable. The room is basic which suited my visit as I was there to explore. My arrival was at night I didn't know the area and was traveling alone. I wish there had been an inside lock/chain to feel more secure. Although the complimentary fresh scone and fruit made up for it morning.

Beautifully maintained, quiet setting, exceptional views of the bay. We stayed here two nights recently and could not have been happier with the overall experience. A morning bag of muffins and fruit is provided, and your are within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Charming establishment.

Location, location, location....can’t possibly be closer to the water than this! Dana and Jay are lovely hosts. Room was squeaky clean and all Covid mandates followed. Hanging out on our deck, watching the lobster boats, and enjoying the warm fall sunshine made this the most relaxing and best part of our vacation! We will definitely be back!

We live in southern Maine and had planned a get away to Deer Isle and Stonington fit the bill. Covid 19 is definitely our concern but trusted the owners to take Maine's precautions seriously. And they did. Everything was contactless. From check in to breakfast bag left on our door. Coffee maker in the room and a refrig for ice, etc. We booked the Heritage Room - very large room with king bed and sofa and chair facing the harbor window. Large fireplace, not used of course. Private deck overlooking the harbor. Large bathroom with shower. It was perfect.
