This is an excellent alternative to staying in Bar Harbor. A quiet and personal town with nearby lobster pounds. The hosts are wonderful freindly folks who are full of information. The breakfast are delicious and just the right size. They have fun with the morning "mystery Juice" - you have to guess what it is. All breakfasts are three course, including dessert!

My husband and I have just returned from our third visit in a row to Kingsleigh Inn, which is our home away from home when we visit Mt. Desert Island. Each visit is better than the last. Two years ago we stayed in the Turret, a suite with a view. There's even a telescope to take a closer look at boats in the harbor. Last year and this, we stayed in a downstairs room which was well furnished and extremely comfortable. Some rooms have balconies, but the downstairs two don't. That isn't a problem because the view out of all of the public room windows and the wrap-around deck, where we had delicious three-course breakfasts (plus mystery juice), is the best. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else during our visits to Southwest Harbor. Pamela and Bryan are hosts extraordinaire. Coffee and sweets are available before breakfast as well as in the afternoon. Wine and hors d'oeuvres are put out at 5. Restaurant menus as well as hiking maps plus quite a library of books of all sorts are readily available. You can't top the location...in downtown Southwest Harbor, which means easy walking distance to the grocery and hardware store to all of the restaurants. Enjoy the quiet side. Definitely enjoy Kingsleigh Inn.

Pamela and Bryan have 25 years experience running B&B’s and they go to great lengths to assure their guests have an enjoyable and comfortable visit! The rooms have fluffy robes and slippers, two luggage racks, good reading lights on both sides of the bed ( no TV’s). Gourmet, three course breakfasts are served every morning and wine and snacks are offered between 5:00-6:00, as well as all day coffee, espresso machine with a different baked treats each day. There are two living rooms filled with books and maps about the area, there is a basket filled with umbrellas, and walking sticks for guests to use. To top this all off there is a decanter of port and chocolates in each room for guests nightcaps! Pamela and Bryan are not just pros; they are fun and engaging and are an asset to any vacation.

My wife and I recently spent three nights at the Kingsleigh Inn and couldn’t have been happier. Bryan and Pamela made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. We selected the Abbott room which worked perfectly for us with all the amenities and offering a charming private balcony overlooking Southwest Harbor. Perhaps the best part of our stay was the awesome three-course breakfasts we were served. Each began with a fun round of name-that-juice which was invariably a delicious blend of flavors. My wife and I usually alternated with one opting for the savory main course option and the other the sweet option. Never were we disappointed. And each breakfast ended with a delicious dessert dish. We would highly recommend Kingsleigh Inn and Southwest Harbor as a wonderful, quieter, alternative on MDI. Thanks Bryan and Pamela!

I visited this inn with my husband a second time since our first in 1993. I was pleased with how the innkeepers made us feel comfortable and at home. The breakfasts were delicious and our stay was very restful. Southwest Harbor is a lovely little town with great seafood on their restaurant menus. If visiting Maine in the future, I would love to stay at this inn again.
