We have visited The Claremont whenever we have been in Southwest Harbor. The restaurant overlooks the mouth of Soames Sound over a well maintained lawn. But the feature that keeps us going back is the wine list. If you enjoy French wines, the Claremont has the best priced Red Bordeaux selection that I have found anywhere. For example, there are... The Claremont is an old favorite- arriving by boat to the dock or courtesy mooring and dining at lunchtime in the dockside cafe is not only a unique Maine experience but this year the food took a leap up and is now excellent. Service is great. Standard lobster salad prices. The hotel dining room breakfast which offers a fruit buffet... More

The Claremont is one of the most charming hotels on Mt. Desert Island. This historic hotel and additional cottages are a convenient place to stay when visiting Acadia National Park, as well as the rest of the island. It is nestled away in a corner of Southwest Harbor, on what the locals call “the quiet side”. This is a perfect... More

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. The location is perfect - on a slight rise above the Somes sound, with beautiful views of the water, sailboats, trees. Gorgeous lawn slopes down to boathouse and dock. Rocking chairs on porch, tea in the afternoons, croquet courts, bikes and rowboats to borrow. Beautiful old building and furnishings. Don't miss... The View of the harbor from the rocking chairs on the back porch is exceptional!, The Inn is charming, the rooms are spacious for a historic Inn, the staff is friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the complimentary full breakfast, high tea and croquet on the professional courts. The Internet service is intermittent in the entire area, but restaurant... More

It's reminded me of the hotel in 'Dirty Dancing' in a good way. Adirondack chairs just waiting for you next to the harbor and the croquet court. I was placed in the Rowse House since the main inn was not open for the season yet. The room itself was fine - a bit bare bones. No television, but internet. Good... More

We have been going here for twenty years; now our children take their children. We absolutely adore the staff-they will do anything to help your stay be the best it can be. We feel greeted like old friends when we arrive. The cottage on the water is sublime-we can watch the seals go by! The Boat House is such a... More

Mt Desert has many fine dining and lodging destinations. The Claremont is the standard for traditional setting accompanied by fine dining, quiet atmosphere and gorgeous location. Don't look for video arcades, noisy guests or or shoddy perfepormsnce since they are foreign for this locale.

We really enjoyed our stay. Authentic old New England feel ceto this hotel with wonderful, inclusive breakfast. Dining room looks out on harbor with lovely sunsets free of charge. We would have enjoyed the croquet equipped lawn, if temperatures would have been warmer. Southwest Harbor is more quaint and quiet than Bar Harbor, which is within easy driving distance. The... On our first morning, with fog layered artfully over low hills across the sound, I could hear waves lapping the shore and the gentle “thonk” of croquet mallets, since several groups attired in white were quietly contemplating their shots on lush green courts. Welcome to the Claremont Hotel. Built in 1874, the hotel and its decor offer the comfort of... More
