The house is an amazing piece of history all on its own. It is clean and has plenty of amenities, including a fully furnished kitchen in the captains suite, wine and cheese in the afternoons, a bocce court, fire-pits, a fountain, gourmet breakfast, and you can see and smell the ocean. (The inn's property goes all the way to the... More

Brenda and Mike are wonderful hosts. The Inn is beautiful and very nicely decorated. We stayed in one of the suites which was very roomy and had a beautiful balcony. The three course gourmet breakfast was incredible and held us over until dinner! It is an older Inn and to get to the suites you need to climb a set... More

Our family and friends spent 3 days at the Inn recently. The house is restored, plenty of room , outside area where you can sit and relax. You can play bocce or horse shoes. There is a fountain on the backside and also a garden. The inside has ready rooms, an outdoor patio with gas fireplace and several books to... More

The house is a beautiful restored historic sea captains home. We stayed in the Captains' Suite which had more amenities than we could use and a deck with a gorgeous view. The spiral staircase to the widow's walk was a great historical touch. I have dined in six continents and have never had a better or more elegant breakfast than... More

What a great choice we made staying here. Beautiful house, generous and kind hosts and you'll never have a better breakfast in your life. Highly recommended. Sit on the porch or by the water and read a book, wine and cheese in the afternoon, restful bliss.

My wife and I stayed for two nights while we visited Acadia NP. The owners have done a wonderful job restoring this historic home. The owners are extremely friendly and very accommodating. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed. The best surprise was the three course gourmet breakfast prepared by the owners.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and just loved it! All rooms are themed based on city which is unique...decor overall is so antiquely and lovely, there was a wine and cheese happy hour when we arrived which was low-key and nice to chat with other guests; breakfast was divine and hosts are friendly without being over-bearing. Great location too... More

Our bedroom was extremely small, the mattress was WAY too soft and offered no support, the overhead light was difficult to reach as it operated with a pull chain that was too high for me, the bathroom was huge but the light switch was on the far side of the bathroom and there was no night light. The bathroom light... More

My husband and I stayed here last night. It was our first time staying at a B and B type of inn. I didn't know what to expect but read the great reviews so thought we would give it a try, for a romantic weekend. Wow so glad I did! It felt a little awkward at first because I had... More

My husband and I stayed here after a day in Bar Harbor. We stayed in the Port of Paris room. Which was beautiful. Since this Inn was formerly the home of a ship Capt. each room has a Port theme! The Innkeepers, Mike & Linda, are very personable and wonderful host. The breakfast was delicious. Starter was yogurt with fruit,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Captain A.V. Nickels Inn offers luxury accommodations in an historic setting. The Inn, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1874 by Captain Nickels as a gift to his bride. It is a breathtaking building sitting on 3 meandering acres directly on the island-studded Penobscot Bay about halfway between the beautiful towns of Camden and Bar Harbor. The Inn is often cited as one of the most photographed inns on the Maine coast and "creates a memory" for each guest who is treated to a level of luxury and attention to detail usually only seen in exclusive small hotels or inns in Europe. All rooms are furnished with European and American antiques, art, china and decorative touches creating the sophisticated air of a fine country home. Roaring fires on cool evenings, wicker on the lovely front porch, and lawn furniture by the water adds ambiance that invites guests to relax a while and enjoy the beautiful views from expansive windows or from the large decks overlooking the property. Two restaurants on site serve guests well by offering a large selection of locally sourced food (some grown right in our own gardens) expertly prepared by our chef. The bar is well stocked with a large selection of wines and our bartender is always ready to mix our signature cocktails. Common areas include two sitting rooms, a library, a lounge, a dining room, a breakfast conservatory, a ballroom, and a loggia with views to the Bay. Evening wine and cheese is served to all guests. After having slept in spacious suites beautifully furnished with antiques and sumptuous beds, overnight guests awake to the site of the sunrise across the bay and will enjoy a gourmet mimosa breakfast in the Inn's sunlit breakfast conservatory. The murmur of waves from the Bay and wonderful sea air enhance the restful atmosphere. All rooms have private baths, flat screen TVs, wireless internet capabilities, coffee/tea service, and luxurious bath amenities. Some have electric fire places. ... more   less
