Just a block from Higgins Beach, this Inn was the perfect stay to round off our trip in Maine! We absolutely loved the room and the food downstairs at Shade was terrific. Everyone working at the Inn was friendly and helpful.

Higgins Beach Inn was so much more than we had hoped for. The staff were so pleasant. The location was perfect. They had thought of everything. We were delighted to see they had beach chairs, towels, and a little cooler we could use during our stay. Cookies and muffins in the lobby. The restaurant was delicious. I think this will be our new spot when we vacation from now on.

Very comfortable bed, large bathroom, nice bay windows. Nice porch to hang out on. Loved the fresh muffins in the morning and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon. We enjoyed the whole experience there. The beach is just a short walk away. The food was fabulous and the entire staff amazing. No complaints here! We'll definitely visit again soon.

We stayed at Higgins Beach Inn the finals days of the "Season." The weather may not have been "beach weather" as many would have in mind, but Autumn can also be a lovely time to experience the beach, especially at Higgins Beach Inn. We lucked into cool, but sunny weather. We had a room on the third floor with a view of the ocean. The bed was comfortable and the modern bathroom was fully equipped. We enjoyed breakfast on the enclosed patio both mornings. When you book directly through the Inn breakfast is included. The lobby offered coffee, decaf and tea all day/evening. The hospitality was excellent from the desk staff to the restaurant staff. The walk to the beach is 2 blocks!

The hotel is lovely - situated a couple of blocks from a beautiful beach. Double room was lovely - newly decorated and very modern/seaside and the bathroom huge. Slept really well as a quiet street. Breakfast was unbelievably delicious - had french toast. Would recommend!!!

We stopped at Higgins Beach on our last day in Maine before heading home. What a wonderful find. The neighborhood around the beach area was so pretty. This the perfect place to have a day at the beach and still see the Rocky Maine coast not too far away.

Love the room. It was very well planned out for ease of use by travelers needing space for luggage, recharging electronics, large bathroom with nice towels & "Pur" brand toiletries, The bed & pillows were comfortable. The first day Breakfast was great & the service too but the 2nd morning the service was not as good. I don't expect sunshine & roses from them but when it came to "running our breakfast voucher", the first morning our server removed the gratuity (of course we still tipped 20%). The 2nd morning the server acted like we had to give her the gratuity so we gave exactly what what on the bill....no more. The only real complaint I have is we did not get the room we reserved. In the future I suggest you don't put families with children on the 3rd floor. I don't think anyone on the 2nd floor got any sleep for 2 nights because their children were running the halls all night!!! Other than that the room was great, the food was great. Even the overall service was great but the placement of guests was not so great.

We were there in September and it was cool in Maine. I asked about operating the temperature control, about how to make it heat the room. I was told you can only do cooling, and that they were not heating the building. Really? The room was 349. a night, and no heat. When we inquired about a space heater and/or blanket on our door tag we got no response. There are better options.

It's always such shame when the quality of service at a hotel doesn't live up to the quality of the property itself. The Higgins Beach Inn is in a wonderful old building just a short walk from Higgins Beach, a wide, gently sloping beach great for walking at low tide and watching the surfers. Also, a great location just outside of Portland and Cape Elizabeth. We were in a King Room on the second floor. The bed was super comfortable - great mattress, soft linens, plenty of high quality pillows. The bathroom was well appointed, the room had a wonderful dark green color painted on its old wooded walls, and a European style wall unit air conditioner which I always appreciate because of its quiet efficiency. The full bathroom was a good size, and well appointed. Bedside tables were cleverly designed, with plugs right there for charging devices. Downstairs, a full bar and restaurant that we didn't eat at except for breakfast. But this is where the good review ends I'm afraid. We found the staff to be aloof and inattentive. No smiles to greet us upon check-in, breakfast the first morning was so painfully slow that we didn't even bother to eat there the second morning because it was also just so bland and without any kind of creativity - I suppose one could say, well it was free, but it was built into the room rate which was around $350/night so the hotel was not cheap. There was no housekeeping offered during our stay (again, I ask for $350/night?) - instead we were presented with a form to fill out and a paper bag to place on our door should we wish to have any of our towels replaced. We did as instructed, asking for a bathmat because one was not provided in the bathroom upon check-in. The notice said the doors would be checked several times throughout the day. We were gone all day and the bag was never checked so we had to bring our dirty towels down to the front desk and ask someone to help. We visited just after Labor Day. Perhaps we were experiencing "post summer holiday service fatigue," but really, that's no excuse. Two stars docked as a result. We are hesitant to return.
