5 miles south of Camden and set a top a small ledge overlooking Penobscot Bay, the Ledges is a classic Maine motel with panoramic ocean views. The property is nestled at the foot of a cove on 9 oceanfront acres with 900 feet of shoreline. Our hillside location overlooking the bay offers guests the perfect vantage point to spot tall-masted schooners, sleek yachts cruising the bay, and lobster boats hauling traps right off our shore.

Ledges By The Bay garners praise for its service, with guests frequently highlighting the friendly staff and impeccable cleanliness. The rooms are celebrated for their comfort and views, but opinions on their value and amenities are mixed. The motel's cleanliness is a standout feature, including spotless rooms and well-maintained furnishings, though the exterior could use some attention.
Its prime location offers guests stunning coastal vistas and easy access to Maine's attractions. While the atmosphere is deemed welcoming and charming, views on the motel's pricing during peak times are divided.

Detailed Reviews
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much. The photos I’ve seen online didn’t really impress me. But this is a rare case where reality trumps out the impression you get from the reviews.
The room we got was on the second level facing towards the bay, which was perfect for grabbing a view of the sunrise from the bed. It was great waking up, making a cup of coffee, and walking 10 feet over to the balcony and enjoying the view of that brilliant orange ball of sun illuminating a iridescent sky over the bay.
Of course, that view only happens on a clear day, so temper your expectations based on the weather. The second morning of our stay, the bay was all fogged up. I still enjoyed the cool ocean breeze with the gulls calling.
The room itself was quite clean and spacious, with a small living room section next to the bathroom as you entered, conjoined to the more open bedroom by a small corridor with an office desk and chair. The balcony extended from the living room section to the bedroom.
The queen room was $200 total per night during the high season. It seemed reasonable to me during booking end was definitely satisfied with my stay after.

Last minute get-away to mid-coast Maine left us few options for accommodations. Fortunately, we found "Ledges by the Bay" motel. Location on Rte 1 provided easy access to Rockland, Rockport and Camden for sightseeing & shopping. Room was updated and clean, with sliders to a small private deck overlooking the quiet bay. Typical breakfast was available each morning. Check-in/out was easy and everyone we encountered working there was friendly and helpful. Pool was clean and inviting. One of the best parts (for us) was that there was a vegetarian Indian restaurant on site (only available on weekends). Food was fresh, flavorful and reasonably priced. Overall, we had a great experience and would happily return when in the area!

+1
I've been coming to mid-coast Maine for almost 40 years. I was a close friend of the original owners of this motel, Bob and Edith Biel. Once Bob passed and Edith too, their son took over and I guess eventually sold to the new owners. When Bob owned this place it was nothing less than meticulous, always clean and fresh.
Our recent stay was met with many challenges. We booked the largest room, a king with twin trundle and a full kitchen and living room. We arrived on Saturday and checked in, went to Shaws to get supplies and unloaded everything. Went out that evening and upon coming home my daughter went to grab what she thought was a toy under the couch. To my surprise it was an old danish with hundreds of ANTS all over it and crawling around everywhere. The onsite manager, Richard, was helpful by bringing over some ant spray and a vacuum (which I asked him to leave with me). For the remainder of the week we had a ritual of vacuuming the floor in the morning and evening as well as making sure that there was no food left around anywhere. Every morning we awoke to our friendly family of ants...EVERYWHERE.
It is sad to see this place fall into disarray. Putting lipstick on a pig won't do anything to help. Taking a good look around, you can see that much of this place needs a major overhaul. In our room, all of the furniture needed a good cleaning, the carpets were filthy and we dared not use any kitchen accessories; we bought our own silverware and plates/cups from the dollar store. Additionally, more than one set of sheets were blood stained.
While they have a pool and our kids used it, the pool furniture is dirty and broken, the pool itself was mostly green and had not been vacuumed the entire week;
noted by the swirling leaf pile at the bottom of the shallow end. I was tempted to go to Walmart and buy my own shock, but on the second day the pool was more or less clear, albeit still with a green hue.
I cannot comment on the pictures of the newer rooms but many of the exterior pictures are of time before the new owners took over.
I can confidently say that I will never stay at the Ledges ever again.

The purpose of our stay was for surgery recovery. This is the perfect place. We booked the king suite because it has a full kitchen which is completely outfitted: full-sized range, microwave, full-sized refrigerator, coffee center, dishes, pots & pans, silverware, dish soap. The separate living/dining and sleeping facilities are spacious and well appointed. Both have beautiful, large windows facing the bay and the lawn leading to the shore is nicely maintained. The breakfast provided was enough to get the day started, and fresh. While the living room furniture was not overstuffed and plush, the bed was a delight. Did I mention how spacious this suite is? And the price was perfect. Will definitely stay again.

I will get the ugly out of the way as it is really only two items: Front desk staff - I wouldn't call them rude, but they are really are not personable people and not very helpful.
The front desk lobby is entrance to restaurant, which at night is an Indian restaurant which has VERY strong smells that linger into the morning when it is open for complimentary breakfast. Not very appetizing in the morning and rather offensive during day at check in.
The good: VIEW was great! Loved the little balcony overlooking a meadow full of wild "weasels" (ground hogs!) and the bay. We walked down to the bay at low tide and went treasure hunting. Walked back through the forest and meadow.
The room is well appointed, albeit "Maine" simple. The bathroom is has ample room with full tub/shower, toilet area w/ window above and sink area. There is also another sink in the entrance area which is very helpful.
We had a fridge which had 4 bottled waters in it. Simple and cheap idea but goes a long ways when you arrive and are thirsty yet don't want to go back out! I barely get one bottle at high end chain hotels and that is with my elite status!! lol
We had a kuerig too.
The room had sitting chairs and tables and nice chests at bottom of bed which were perfect for our suitcases.
They even gave us a great breakfast in the morning for free - which for newly opened Maine from covid was fantastic. (the other two places we stayed didn't do as well!)
All this for under $100 for two queens oceanfront in June!? Yes, please.

The location of the motel is fabulous. The staff was very friendly. The view of the bay is amazing and it is conveniently located between Camden and Rockland. The main building, where breakfast is served, is lovely-very bright, crisp, clean and fresh. Yummy waffles!
That being said, the room we had was very tired looking. While it is clear that they try to clean it, the carpet seemed very old beyond its years. There was chipped laminate on the sink and the room really needed a facelift. There are so many places to stay in this area, I don't think I would stay here again.

The rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and the view is stunning. The Ledges is centrally located to easily explore the region’s beaches, hiking trails, museums and gift shops. Breakfast is available to enjoy in their dining area or deck. Whether traveling solo or with family/friends, the Ledges has a variety of rooms to make everyone comfortable. I have always found the room(s) generously stocked with complimentary toiletries and luxurious towels. In addition, a Keurig and refrigerator are provided in each room. Make time to just sit and relax on your private deck! The Ledges is always my first choice for lodging in this area.

The room was "ok" You can tell the hotel has gone thru renovations and made updates which was nice, but they still have a ways to go. Cleaning the outside would also make it appear more clean and friendly because it was quite gross. The staff were not very friendly or helpful. I realize the pool is outdoors, but it was FREEZING cold. Too cold to go in and enjoy. The breakfast was supposed to be a continental breakfast. It consisted of either a scone or bagel in a brown paper bag that had to be taken back to your room to eat and only the 1 cup Kureg in the room with powdered cream. For the price of a Double Queen Superior room cost, I felt like I got ripped off!!!!

The room was neat and mostly clean. We did spray the tub with Clorox to remove the mildew, which may have been a result of being on the water. Our room had a beautiful view of the bay and yard.
They offer breakfast, but the smell of curry / spices was so strong that we couldn’t eat breakfast there.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
My biggest complaint is that they advertise a heated pool, but the heater was broken the week we went. So, if you don’t care about swimming, maybe it would be a good place to stay. Next time, we will probably look elsewhere.

No clue...they all face the bay
No, not on the beach, but lovely view. Long walk to shops, but short drive. Super value!
Yes there are hairdryers in the room.
Oops, I meant to say MAINE, ME.
Sorry we don't have any Jacuzzis
Maybe in the future.
