This was our first stay at the Old Granite Inn. We will be return customers when we travel to mid-coast Maine again. The Inn is just what you would expect from a building built in 1840, not new, but very well maintained and everything working. The breakfasts were great every day and would rival an expensive meal from any restaurant. If you are looking for modern amenities like a pool, bar and elevator; stay elsewhere. If you are looking for a "throwback in time" place overlooking the ocean, with great food and very nice people; stay here. Well worth the price paid. Thank you Ed and Joan for a great stay!
We stayed here while spending the weekend in Rockland. We love old inns and have missed the opportunity to meet and talk with other guests. This weekend was just what we needed after two years not traveling. Comfortable bed, good quality linens, electric fireplace in the room, modern en-suite bath, room thermostat. The host would light the fireplace in the living room in the evenings and we enjoyed reading there or working on the huge jigsaw puzzle. Gourmet but simple food for breakfast: crepes with blueberry sauce, savory scones, veggie/cheese frittatas, buckwheat-walnut-honey pancakes with maple syrup, blueberry muffins, puff pastry with egg and sausage - and this is just two days! Fresh fruit salad everyday. Excellent service by the hosts, family-owned and on site. We will definitely come back. …
The inn is in a great spot across from the harbor and the common rooms seemed comfortable. Bed was ok, the towels are plush and breakfast was the highlight. Didn't sleep at all due to constant noise of heat and water in the pipes...all night. Our room was very cool and upon asking, found out the heat is controlled in the next room, hmmm. We didn't find the innkeeper particularly helpful regarding where to eat. Luckily there's Google. Also, our welcome note described a cookie jar available 24/7...never found that. While I choose old inns for their character, the night time noises made for a sleepless night-UGH.
We had booked two nights in the Granite Inn but left after the first night. The room we were in was advertised as having an updated bathroom which was not accurate. There was a bathtub that had previously had a glass sliding door. The door was removed but not the fittings. Very jury-rigged. It smelled off like the shower curtain hadn’t been washed recently. The location is good except that as trucks rumble by, the entire building shakes. The breakfast was good. Someone put their website together for them and did a great job of it. Unfortunately, it misrepresented what the inn is. We were on the second floor but their is no elevator and no offer of help. This inn needs some serious updating.
A must stay if visiting Rockland, Me. Great location near sea front watching the ferries from flowered sun porch. Ed is a very social and interesting personality up front. Inn keepers are Johnny on the spot and supply ample info and a warm tasteful breakfast too. My wife and I experienced the excellent Primo restaurant. I’ll take Rockford over Camden any day of the week. Enjoy
Can’t rave more about the breakfast. Had cornmeal pancakes & a frittata both which were superb. Charming little hotel that feels like home. Only critique is that wifi was a bit spotty in rooms 1/2 but at least there was cable! Would definitely stay here again.
Great place to stay in Rockland. The inn is a great location for downtown Rockland. The room was cute, comfortable and classic. The owners were very helpful and kind. The breakfast was AMAZING. Best breakfast at an inn/hotel I have ever experienced. Very talented owners that are also the chefs. We had the room that viewed the harbor which was cool. Very bright at 5:30 am - bring your eye masks lol. Worth it for the view!! If we ever go back this way will definitely try to stay here!!
We had a wonderful stay at the Granite Inn in Rockland. The location is ideal for exploring Main Street and to see the busy Rockland Harbor. It is also a perfect landing spot for anyone who is taking the ferry . Our hosts were extremely welcoming and served up the most delicious homemade breakfast we have ever encountered at an inn! Delicious! From the homemade pancakes to the fresh fruit and fresh baked muffins we and scones, these innkeepers were over the top! I highly recommend the Granite Inn. I know we will be returning soon.
My wife and I returned today from a 1 night stay at the granite inn. From the moment we stepped in the door to when we checked out we experienced superior hospitality and comfort. Our room was warm and very comfortable with upscale finishes. the inn keeper was very gracious and cooked us a delicious (complimentary!!) breakfast the following morning. The inn is centrally located within walking distance to everything downtown Rockland has to offer. We will certainly be staying there again. If you are looking for a place to study in Rockland this is the place!!
The highlight of our stay was the superb breakfast expertly made and prepared by Joan and Ed, the uber friendly innkeepers. Conveniently located right across the Rockland Ferry terminal and right on lovely Main Street. Suite 1&2 is perfect for a family. Rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a minimalist Swedish vibe. Highly recommend!
