Detailed Reviews
Email to the hotel weeks prior to visit was unanswered. All electronic communication indicated that check-in time was 3PM yet when arrived was told that it was 4PM and no way I could check in until that time. Counter was inexperienced and amateurish. Only ice machine was the one used for ice in the "breakfast" room which is accessed via walking out of building with ice bucket to and across the parking lot to the lobby. No room housekeeping servics are offered. If you book a waterview balcony unit the road is right immediately beneath outside, noise can be an issue. Shower had SUBSTANTIAL mold/mildew on the inside bottom of the door sill. Carpeted area of the sleeping area was noticibly dirty and could use a good shampoo and clean. Lamp was missing a light bulb. Coffee maker with short cord was plugged in located on an upper shelf and as a result no way to pour water into said unit. Televisions in the room were off-brands (Spectre and Onn) and not quality, the sound on them were horrendous. Don't park facing in to the building as when you want to leave and there is a car parked horizontally to the immediate rear it is very diffuclt to back out.
The only reason we stayed was 1. We needed to be in the area 2. Only place in Rockland that had availabilty (now I know why) 3.The bed was semi-OK and not too soft and saggy, otherwise we would have left after a night.
Update to adage: you get what you pay for but sometimes you don't. Luck of the draw but if you want to be sure...

First, the good stuff: the front desk and maintenance employees were very kind and helpful. They did the best they could, but clearly the overarching issues were beyond their control. The hallways and carpeting were filthy and our room had a very strong odor of smoke. We asked to switch rooms, and the cigarette odor in the one were offered was even worse. We decided to end our 3 night stay after one night and were assured we would only be billed for the single night we stayed, but after multiple phone calls and reassurances that we we would be credited, we have been billed for 3 nights. No one from accounting/billing returns calls. 3 weeks later, this has still not been resolved.

The only plus about the hotel is location and parking. Overall the hotel is not being maintained and very run down. Lightbulbs were dead, bath tub flow was blocked, air conditioning unit is very loud and rattling. Mattress sagged, the whole room needs to be renovated. Staff seemed to be temporary personnel. The free breakfast was basically coffee and basically, as the rest seems to gone by 9 am - also no cutlery available.
The photographs on the website are misleading and must be from the open days many years ago.

The Trade Winds Inn is a joke. We made reservations. Then called the day before to make sure there was no problem with odors and sprays as I’m very allergic to smoke and perfume. We could not get a real person to answer the phone. The answering service must have been in India and it was a recording. We did finally get a person who was not at the hotel but said she would leave a message for the desk clerk. No one called in four hours. We tried to find a phone number for the hotel and saw reviews that were terrible. We were leaving the next day for Rockland so we made reservations at Rockland Harbor Hotel who does have a real person answering the phone and was a great place to stay. When we got to Rockland we walked to the Tradewinds Inn and a person came on a tv screen asking if they could help us. We said we wanted to see a real person. The screen said a person would come see us. No one did. In the meantime we looked around and it was dirty and creepy. We did not get our money back.

First they showed our reservation (King) at $184 per night had been canceled (we found this out when we showed up at 5 PM for a funeral the next day). They did have a Twin room which cost us $209 per night.
There was NO maid service between the 2 nights that we stayed. I don't know what we were paying an outragious price for.
Being originally from Rockland this hotel had a good reputation in the past.

Shabby and dank but a good location. Strange codes without a key but the worst was being charged 20 afterwards, without being asked, as a fee for a basically nonexistent breakfast, the pool, international calling—like who does that? And other items presented as amenities on the site

We just returned from a Visit to Maine. We enjoyed the Lighthouse museum.
The hotel - Trade Winds Inn is a dump. We haven't stayed in a hotel this poor for years. We were asked to put our towels in a bag and leave them outside the door on leaving. They were so gray and over washed we should have thrown them out! When I spoke to the front desk about the condition of our room and the hall ways, etc. she said the hotel is owned by a person or company outside the US and they don't care.
Be advised: I would NOT book this hotel under any circumstance. It may seem convenient but needs to be re-vamped in a big way and owned by a company that cares.

I do not recommend this hotel! Halls reek of marijuana and the hotel staff appear to have a high turnover rate! Also the hotel has these keyless entry doors and takes forever to punch in the key codes and do they actually delete the codes after your stay-who knows!!

I never made it. I tested positive for covid the day before, and contacted both Bookings.com and Trade Winds by the Bay. They refused to refund my money, or move the reservation dates, because I had a non-refundable ticket. Given the reason I was cancelling, I thought that was not quite fair, since I cancelled, in part, to avoid exposing their staff and other guests to covid. I think some flexibility would have been good business on their part, as now I will never book through Bookings.com or stay at the Trade Winds on the Bay again.

Terrible terrible place. Everything is false advertised. If you get confused, look at reviews for Trade Winds Inn…. Yeah it’s the same place. But certain rooms are related to some time share from the 60s…. No breakfast. Lipstick on a pig everywhere you look.
Lots of improvements were attended but clearly by the lowest/unlicensed builder.
Oh, and as a carpenter, I can tell you these balconies are going to hurt someone. Stringers aren’t even run the correct direction.
