Phenomenal service, attention to detail, passion for what they do to make your stay seamless and perfect makes this THE only place to stay in Rangeley for a true Maine experience. We booked a one bedroom suite right on the lake - which is an option besides the lovely rooms offered in the main hotel- and night after night had to pinch ourselves to believe how perfect our experience was being on the water. Mandy was so helpful in getting us checked in and settled for our stay. On top of this, the Inn has by far, THE best food offered in Rangeley for breakfast and dinner. The pan roasted salmon was the best I have ever had, and the thai wings are out of this world too! We loved the watermelon salad with feta, as well as a delicious summer fried green tomato salad. The wait staff are all devoted, hard working and attentive. Some of the waiters were the same ones that we met three years ago when we came to Rangeley for the first time. That's very unusual for a resort town, so it shows how well the owner Travis respects his employees and vice versa. Serban, Olivia, Lisa, and the remaining team here from Romania run a tight ship in both dining rooms, delivering attentive, caring service. This gem of a place is just that. A true gem, so book it now and enjoy the magic of Maine with this exceptional team that will have you coming back year after year. Bravo to ALL who made our stay so perfect and memorable, and thank you all for making our vacation so relaxing.. We will be back again soon!!!

We were cool and comfortable for our warm 5 day stay in July. Our room was clean when we arrived with no stray hairs from unknown parties - that seemingly small detail seems lost on a lot of places. The room itself had everything we needed and was well maintained - fresh or fresher paint with no scuffs and all that disappointing lack of maintenance stuff travelers see. The staff was wonderful, from the front desk to the dining rooms. A special shout out to the breakfast servers, they were all awesome and kept those little coffee cups from running dry. So don’t hesitate to stay here for a minute. I can see that this establishment earns a good review because they care. Keep it up because we noticed.

We loved The Rangeley Inn !!! We were given one of the rooms that was lakeside and so we enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the lake and the sun going down. We heard our first Loon in the distance. The whole place was serene. I am not sure how the main building was because we only used that to eat dinner and breakfast. Dinner was wonderful and the server attentive. Rangeley in NOT a big town (population about 1500) and so your eating options are limited. We asked if we didn't eat breakfast at the hotel what other places were available and the bowling alley was the only choice offered. Needless to say we stayed and ate at the Inn. The shower was easy to use with a bench and good pressure and seemed the most like home. My only negative was the area of the fridge, coffee maker and microwave. I found that a little dusty and an unfinished ceiling but maybe the housekeeper is just short. it didn't hamper our stay or opinion of the place. If in the area again would definatley stay

Reservation cancellation policy is not clear. We needed to cancel the second night of our reservation within the time allotted without penalty, but were told we couldn’t because there was a two-night minimum stay. We didn’t know that because it was not listed on the website, not explained at the time of the reservation, not written in the email confirmation. Though it didn’t seem fair, it seemed we had to accept it because the desk clerk was adamant, and so when we arrived, we had to forfeit $367.
Room without hot water (lukewarm, at best). It was not pleasant, reminding me of, after testing the water, optimistically jumping in a swimming pool and hoping you’ll adjust to the temperature but can’t. We alerted the night clerk who offered us an unoccupied room to shower, but that was not practical since it was raining and time-consuming. When we asked for a nominal discount for the inconvenience, the manager called the next day and refused because “no one ever complained before” and the temperature is regulated by law so guests can’t scald themselves. What?! The manager also declared we had been offered a move to another less expensive room, presumably with hot water. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Had she misunderstood…or been mislead…or just assumed? We’ll never know.
We were disheartened by it all and asked, in a follow-up letter, that they post the two-night policy somewhere AND believe their guests when they report an issue.
Consider looking into another inn. Hopefully you’ll have better customer service and a more pleasant stay.

We take pride in the experience that we offer and we strive to provide our guests with outstanding service. Unfortunately, there are instances when we cannot accommodate a request. We understand that sometimes there is a last minute change in plans, but we need to adhere to our cancellation policy. Our cancellation policy clearly states "changes in dates must be made at least 72 hours prior to arrival. Refunds will not be made for shortened stays." Minimum stay requirements are also indicated when placing a reservation online. Every issue reported to us is fully investigated. In most cases there is a prompt resolution. If more work is required, we do whatever we can to ensure our guests have a comfortable and pleasant visit. I'm sorry that the options we offered were not satisfactory. In this instance we immediately investigated and did not identify any issues with our hot water system. Nevertheless, accommodations were offered and declined. There are circumstances when we will issue a refund, but in this case we did not feel it was justified.

No access to your room before 4pm , even if it is ready. Desk closes at 9pm. Handed an information sheet upon check-in. At the bottom it states that there is no housekeeping unless requested. So no making of beds, changing of towels, not even replacing a lightbulb which was told to staff. Lame excuse at check-out about Covid being responsible. If they really are sincere they should have little "Housekeeping Please" signs that can go on the door. An expensive stay for no services.

Bill and PJ, we are sorry that you found our level of service unsatisfactory. Our housekeeping team's first priority is to ensure that rooms are cleaned very thoroughly between guests. Check-in is guaranteed by 4pm, but we will always accommodate an earlier check-in if the room is ready. Our records reflect that you were given access to your room at 2:38pm. I'm sorry that we could not have your room ready sooner. Daily housekeeping service is available on request, at no additional charge. We have found that the majority of our guests do not wish to have daily service. (This has been the case since Covid, as explained by our associate.) When a guest requests housekeeping service, we ask what time will be convenient for them and we schedule accordingly. This allows our guests more control over the service than they would have with a door sign. Some of our guests declare at check-in that they would like daily service at a specific time each day, and we fulfill the request accordingly. We are also happy to fulfill maintenance requests (such as changing a dead lightbulb). Our front desk associates can typically resolve this in a matter of minutes. When our front desk is closed, I reside on-site and I can be reached after hours for any urgent issues that arise.

Booked a room last October for a wedding in June. Booked a very specific room that was extra money because of the size and locale of it. Called the day before we were supposed to show up and had some questions; and confirmed the room with the very nice and delightful deskperson. She tells me what a nice room choice that was. The next day we check in. Wife asks specifically that this is the room we asked for and the clerk confirms that is the right one, because the paperwork did not look right. We head down to the annex rooms overlooking the pond and the room turns out to be a very small not-a-two-room suite like we booked. We head back to the desk with our original paperwork to question the clerk. AAAAAhh somehow overnight they gave the room we requested to another party the night before? The same night I called to confirm? It seems to me someone was not going to tell us of this and charge us the same amount of money for a much smaller room? After confirming the "mistake" with my wife they did offer us a room in the main hotel on the second floor (no elevator, bad knees and lots of luggage) for a very small discount I would say. Main hotel is nice and has lots of character/ charm but not what we wanted. We took the room despite great misgivings about this place now. Every where else booked up because of time of year and the wedding. The staff I spoke with were very nice and the place was clean. The food in the restaurant was adequate. They could not explain how they gave our room away as no one would take responsibility for changing the reservation on their computer. Even though I was told that every change had someones name attached to it. I'm not planning on returning. I would recommend if you get reservations , see the room before you believe it. And yes these reservations were made directly through the Inn not some third party that jerked us around. Its too bad we are left with this perception of the place because it seemed to have great potential. Kind of tainted our review to the 200 or so people at the wedding we spoke with as well.

We are aware of, and we deeply regret our mistake. The error was made by one of our team members - the first error of its kind in the 9 years I’ve owned The Rangeley Inn. Someone accidentally moved your reservation (months ago) without noticing the difference in the type of room. When you called the night before, the person you spoke with did not pick up on the error. It would not be appropriate for me to identify the individuals, nor would it change the circumstance. We are already working on additional training to prevent this sort of error from happening again. Ultimately, the responsibility is mine. When the issue was brought to my attention I rushed in from working on the Inn’s grounds to help our front desk team come up with a solution. We thought that we had found a solution you were satisfied with for accommodations - so this review now comes as a surprise. If we knew that you were dissatisfied with the suite we offered, we could have identified different options. We are not dishonest nor do we employ bait and switch tactics. We always adhere to the exact type of room our guests have reserved - which is why you don’t see more reviews like this. On top of this, we put tremendous effort into accommodating very specific requests for location, view, floor preference, types of bathroom fixtures, type of climate control, number of windows, room amenities, and even the type of flooring. We have guests who return to us multiple times per year who make these kinds of requests, because they are confident in the quality of accommodations and the service that we provide. I am sorry that we did not resolve this issue to your satisfaction, but I am puzzled that you did not express this to us while you were staying here. While I could not have undone our error, I would like to have had the opportunity to improve your experience with us.

This Inn is a great value and a beautiful and comfortable place as well. The only negative for me was that the food in the restaurant was mediocre at best but the prices rival those of a fine food restaurant. I would exclude breakfast though as their breakfasts are wonderful. I will definitely return and will remain hopeful that they will make improvements in the restaurant.

The Inn is a wonderful place to stay. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed the historic environment, the well mannered staff, and the delicious food. We are vegetarian and pescatarian so food is particularly important. The location was ideal as the Inn is very close to eateries, stores, and Rangeley Lake itself. Our overall experience was one of complete satisfaction . We hope in the future to visit the Inn again.

This is a charming old inn that has been renovated without loosing it’s warmth. We stayed in the original part, but there are newer units out back. The main building has many nooks and crannies, as well as a great front porch. Breakfast and dinner were both done well in the Tavern. There is a full bar. It sits on a pond and there is a canoe and some kayaks, no charge. It’s right in town with many places to walk. The staff was also delightful and helpful.

A family run business, this little Inn is a Great find! We initially stayed here in April having bought some land nearby, and returned this past weekend for another visit. The owner Travis is seen doing everything - landscaping, housekeeping, carpentry, helping in the restaurant, delivering pillows… Whatever it takes to make your stay perfect. We love this place! Our clean and comfortable room faced the beautiful rangeley lake, and we woke up this morning to the sound of loons and song birds! What more could you ask for? They have an in-house restaurant in an extraordinarily beautiful room, and have a soon to open tavern that is a quaintest room he’s ever been in! The hotel overall is just an incredible gem. We had breakfast twice in the main dining room and Olivia our waitress was just was running from table to table, keeping everybody happy! Who knows where the workforce is in the whole world these days but if you plan to eat out anywhere, just be patient people… Every single person who’s working today is overloaded and every single business is understaffed. So if you plan to eat out anywhere my suggestion is to go there with your patience cap on and be kind instead of critical. I guess the people in the dining room who were demanding Didn’t quite remember that we are in the middle of a pandemic and nobody wants to work! We even went to a restaurant in town last night and waited two hours for a Caesar salad! But who is in a hurry these days? Settle down and be kind and pay it forward to those who do want to work and are having a difficult time keeping up.:) This Rangely Inn only serves breakfast but it is wonderful and worth every minute of waiting if you have to… I can’t emphasize how hard every single person who worked at this Inn extended themselves to make their customers happy. We love this place and will be back! You can’t ask for more when you have a serene lake to see a sunrise and sunset from, while reading your favorite book on the terrace. Thank you to Travis and his whole team for pulling more than their weight to keep their guests happy. Bravo to all! We can’t wait to return!!!

It has also been challenging because of the shortage of help. Nevertheless we have endeavored to provide our guests with the best experience possible.

Yes the restaurant is open for breakfast and hopes to open in the fall for dinner. It is an incredible breakfast menu, reasonably priced and in an absolutely beautiful, beautiful room!
I recommend it highly!
Yes, there is a gas fireplace in our lobby and a wood fireplace in our Tavern. We use both regularly during the winter, but not during the warmer months.
Hi Cyndi,
We have three pet-friendly rooms in our Haley Pond Lodge. If you have specific dates in mind, you may check availability of these rooms using the reservations function on our website. They have the PET designation in the title. You may also contact us at 207-864-3341 to check availability. Unfortunately we cannot permit pets inside the Inn.
Thank you,
Travis
Thank you for your inquiry. Maine State Law prohibits smoking in any hotel or motel room, or within 20 feet of any commercial building. As such, the most convenient rooms would be located on the first floor of the Inn or the Haley Pond Lodge - permitting easy access to the parking lot for smoking. These are mostly Traditional Queen and King rooms, and any room type in the Haley Pond Lodge. If you are booking online, please note your preference for the first floor.
