I wish I could give this lodge/hotel a better review because the restaurant was very, very good, and we also enjoyed the bar. The problem was with the beds, the management, and the grounds. We intended to stay 3 nights but the mattress was not in good condition, so we then requested a room change. One other room was available as soon as the guests checked out, but the couple about to leave informed us that their mattress wasn't great either and the pillows were worse. The head housekeeper tried to be helpful, but the young women managing the lodge was not apologetic, just ANNOYED WITH US. We later had to get our credit card co. to intercede and eventually we did get a refund for the last 2 nights which we had paid for when we checked in (before we knew about the mattress problem). Loon Lodge is located right on the lake, and it does have a beautiful view (the lake bottom is too rocky, rough and muddy for swimming, but the ever present Canada geese leave their droppings all over the grass. The town of Rangeley is very low key. There are a few other restaurants in town (Loon Lodge does not serve breakfast), minimal shops, some hiking trails, and some boat excursions, but Rangeley is quiet in the summer. It is likely that most people visit in winter for the nearby skiing.

We spent the night in the Saddleback room. Lovely view of the lake and well decorated. Lounge had a fire place. We attended happy hour (each item $5) and ordered pork tacos which were amazing - moist pork with a kick. The bar tender was especially attentive. We also ate dinner in the dinning room. Our salmon and braised ribs were delicious. Rooms do not have TVs, but we didn't miss one. Breakfast was not served, but each room gets amazing large muffins.

Stayed 2 nights. The nights we were there the dining and bar were closed, but nonetheless it was great quiet location. We just brought our food and ate in front of fireplace. We made fires both nights. Judy the front desk, was great to talk to

We had a great dinner last night in the pub! The arugula salad with a poached egg was superb and my wife and I split the chicken meal. Portions were nice sized and the quality of the food was excellent.
