If you love history and comfort, this is your jam! My wife and I had an amazing time here over the weekend. Comfortable and relaxing! The wifi was strong, coffee great, all the details were perfect, and I loved the historic photography.
I was really excited to stay here, given all the hype. The hotel is nicely done, very tasteful, but it is small. Great restaurant on main floor, but you better have a reservation if you think you want breakfast on a Sunday morning (granted, we were there over July 4 weekend so probably extra busy). An an Ambassador member we were kindly upgraded to a larger corner room. It was tastefully furnished, nice bathroom, but it was small. There is only one chair in the room and it is a desk chair and if you sit in it no one can get between you and the bed. I looked up the price of the room and I bet we’ve it was $800+ (we used points), but that is a lot of money for a very small room. There were two windows but no view of anything except buildings acros the street (we were on third floor). Elevators are also small so there was sometimes a line to get the next one in the morning. I had to call twice to get a luggage rack brought to the room. We also had a shower that leaked all over the bathroom floor (it was a sealing issue, because it was not leaking near the door). We reported it the first night and then reminded them when we left the next morning so they could fix it. Nothing got fixed and the second night of our stay we had the leak and all the clean up again. We mentioned it again the next day before we went out and again, that night when we took showers before dinner, it was the same thing. So we cleaned up the mess all three nights of our stay. I understand when hotels get frustrated when guests write tough reviews when the problem was never mentioned when it could have been fixed. I agree that is not fair, but I mentioned it three times and it did not get fixed! I also mentioned it when we checked out, said they needed to fix it before the next guests arrived but the woman barely seemed interested and said she would make a note. Would have been nice if she said she apologized for the inconvenience, but that did not happen. The location is OK, but I would definitely stay someplace better located closer to commercial street and the waterfront. Sadly, there is nothing here that would justify paying more for the experience. At least t the Residence Inn (which I highly recommend) there are two chairs in the room!…
very cool marriott. love the printing press theme. big lobby and bar area. fitness center is nice enough. great location walking distance to everything. also very good customer service. better service than you would get at a run of the mill marriott. it truly felt like an upper tier marriott experience
Located a few blocks away from Old Port and 5 minutes to David's restaurant, the Press Hotel is situated in a great location for walking to the Portland sights, including the harbor for boat rides. Loved the Nespresso coffee maker and generous supply of capsules in the room plus the delicious Bar Harbor blueberry fruit tea. The bathroom is spacious with grey marble. Hotel has a fun decor and theme. The room was small, smaller than our cruise ship rooms and Best Western. There was only one chair - for the desk, and if you pulled it out, it would make it hard to get around the bed since the padded bench / luggage area was in front of the bed. We were not in the room much, so it was not a big deal but for the price, it would be nice to have a place to sit if you are in the room because of the weather. We did not try the Union restaurant, since it was over a 15 minute wait for breakfast due to lack of staff or capacity control since there were a few tables open. Near Old Port, is the Juicery where we got a healthy breakfast (they have cashew avocado toast and acai bowl) and sat on the pier by the water. Our sleep was interrupted by a fire alarm at 1:30 am. Fire trucks and police came and we were allowed back inside around 2:15 am.…
The Press Hotel provided the perfect accommodation for our babymoon. The room was clean and comfortable, and the shower was luxurious. I was also pleasantly surprised at the additional little touches the hotel offered. For instance, the gym had drawers full of trail mix, earbuds, and hair ties for those who had lost or forgotten these items at home. Very thoughtful. The staff also saved us from what would have been a big problem. The morning of our extremely early departing flight, an Uber driver rudely cancelled on us. It was around 4:15am, and there were no other active Uber/Lyft drivers in the vicinity. Luckily, the hotel works with 2-3 other drivers outside the rideshare apps, and the front desk associate was able to secure us a ride to the airport. Lastly, the location cannot be beat. A brief walk will get you to Long Wharf, or to any of the many wonderful Portland restaurants. My husband and I highly recommend this hotel.…
This was our first visit to this hotel but it won’t be our last. Loved the location- easy to walk all over downtown and if something is too far, they had a complimentary car to drive you. Service was great. Rooms were interesting and very clean, if a bit small. Only other downside besides the small rooms was that I thought the breakfast option for Platinum rewards members at Inkwell was too limited, even tho the server they have working there was awesome
We have been to Portland many times with this being our fiorst stay at The Press. The hotel, staff and restaurant far exceeded our expectations. Check-in was flawless and the front desk staff friendly and efficient. Hotel is immaculate. Rooms are well appointed and beds are extremely comfortable. The UNION restaurant is outstanding - farm to table at its best. Servers are superb. Lobby is welcoming with lots of seating, a beautiful fireplace and hotel bar at the far end of the lobby. There are even multiple newspapers available in the lobby which we have not seen since the beginning of covid. Nothing but praise for this well located property in the center of town and its great staff. We will definitely return.
We spent three nights at this hotel. The accommodations were very high-quality and the service was excellent. We are fans of the Marriott system and the autographed series is a step above normal. The hotel is ideally located in Portland and easy walking to many local sites and restaurants. Additionally the hotel provides a shuttle service in the evening so that you don’t have to drive and find parking. The building is a newspaper provider in a past life. The theme of printing in newspapers is carried throughout the Decour of the hotel and very well done. It definitely makes it more interesting.
We've been coming to the Press Hotel for several years and always viewed it as the best hotel in Portland. This recent trip has been a disappointment and we may have to look for an alternative. Early morning coffee, bagels and muffins have disappeared at the Inkwell on Monday through Wednesday and are now charged on Thursday to Sunday. Room service hours have shrunk and no evening room service. Staff moral is down and staff complain of cost cutting measures. New owners are making a huge mistake. Let's bring back the Press to its old standard.
"Beyond Words" may be the tag line for this outstanding hotel, but it couldn't be a more apt description. The attention to detail whether it is reflecting the building's history as the home of the Press Herald newspaper - reflected in decor - from the classic manual typewriter in the lobby, the typeset letters behind the reception desk, or the words that fall from the walls onto the carpets in the hallways, and the vintage desks that are used in the rooms. But it's the team that stands out. I wish I had captured all their name, because the friendly, professional manner was uniform across the hotel. Whether it was a restaurant with outdoor dining (in freezing weather) to forgotten shaving kit (a bit out of packing practice) or breakfast suggestions Alyssa, Sophia, Laurie and Rachel were helpful, smiling and warm. And Morgan at Inkwell made my mornings. Add the guys at the main door welcoming me back or sending me off in style, and it created a memorable and wonderful experience. It really is the best place to stay in Portland.…
