We booked the Inn after reading reviews and ended up feeling luke-warm after our stay. The inn's appearance is charming, but fell short in other areas. We upgraded our room for the queen bed with a jetted tub, though it was hard to tell from the website what the room really looked like. I expected the jetted tub to be... More

Lovely, clean and quiet hotel. Most reasonably priced hotel in downtown Portland. We stayed in 7B. It was a huge well apointed room that overlooked Commerce St. We could easily walk to restaurants and Wharf One - It is a little hike but lots to see and enjoy along the way. We found our best restaurants by walking the city... More

janet b- I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. Portlanders are very welcoming aren't they? I always suggest to guests that they walk into the old port if they can. There are so many interesting shops and sights you encounter along the way it would be a shame to miss out. More

We had an enjoyable one night stay at the Inn at St John. We stayed on the third floor (walkup) in a room with a shared bathroom. We felt the accommodations were a very good value for the price we paid, which was significantly less than other accommodations we were looking at in Portland. It even included a small continental... We wanted a little get-away and spent two nights at the Inn. It was perfect. The room was spotless, the staff went out of their way to be helpful, and the location was great. The rooms are nicely done, each a little different. There is a ton of charm throughout. The munchies at night were always delicious and the continental... More

if you like European-style hotels, this is one for you. Victorian. Very charming rooms. I shared a bath so the price was very acceptable to me. Every detail attended. Continental breakfast was great. Very good coffee. Lots of historical touches. One caveat....no elevator. Lots of narrow stairs. But, they offer porterage. Lot's of atmosphere.

After dragging my luggage behind me for nearly 2 miles from the ferry terminal, I finally arrived outside of my hotel. The first excellent sign - beautifully tended windowboxes with real flowers in shades of late summer. A lion spouting water greets you just outside the front door. Walking into the lobby was like an oasis. Leafy plants, walls the... More

The nice things about this inn are the staff and the great free coffee. Usually, free coffee is weak and of low quality, but this coffee is just the right strength and tastes terrific. When the pot sounded empty, someone rushed out with fresh coffee. My room was small, with a very nice bathroom, but I never felt that I... More

-SalSal_Salem Thank you for your review. The coffee at the Inn never goes unnoticed by coffee lovers. I wouldn't wish weak coffee on my worst enemy. While it is true that the Inn's neighborhood is not within the trendy old port our prices reflect that and it is in no way unsafe. I walked home every night for years without... More

My husband and I and my son and his girlfriend stayed at the Inn at St. John. My husband and I had a room with a private bath and small refrigerator for the first night, and on the second night we had a smaller room with a private bath across the hall from our room. I wasn't sure how I... More

As others have said the staff is very nice and make you feel at home. They always acknowledge your presence when you come back in from the day. There are some great things and some things that are not so great, but overall we liked staying here and would go back. To begin with, the Inn has charm and history.... More

My husband and I stayed in Portland in October 2015. Our Room was beautiful, the staff were fabulous. I can't wait for a return visit. We met other couples while there who were return customers who said they wouldn't stay anywhere ele.
