My partner and I stayed at Westin Portland Harborview in Maine last October 22,2020. We arrived late and tired. As we got inside our hotel room, we found a sock under the table. I told my partner that it's ok because I am super tired and we have to wake up early. I took a shower and get ready for bed. As I lay on the bed, I saw dried blood under the comforter and a hair on my pillow. I immediately called the front desk and spoke to the reception. She even said that that's unacceptable and will give us another room and free breakfast. After 5mins, the manager called me and tried to investigate. I told him about my disappointment, especially that they are a 4-star hotel. It is disgusting that I have to lay down in a bed with other people's hair and some old blood. They sent someone to bring us our key, and we moved to another room. It is the same room with no upgrade or anything. I attached some pictures of the old blood and the sock under the table. I also attached a video so you can see the hair, the old blood, and the sock. I tried to upload the picture of sock but the picture is too big.

We took our daughter and her puppy and had a great family stay. The room service was prompt and delicious. The room was clean and smoke-free. The front desk staff were very helpful. Next time I want to try the spa.

As Westin hotels go, this hotel looks good. In actuality, it was a disappointment. There is no such thing as a harbor view except from a distance. It is not on the harbor. For a top floor room, the room was quite small. It was clean. Being from another part of the country, we had questions about where to go, where we could find things. The staff behind the front desk did not understand the words customer service. This was particularly true of Mike; he had a condescending attitude. They were all smiles upon arrival, but after that, everything seemed to be asking too much. Later, we were told the restaurant was open. When I went down for lunch, I was told it was closed, and “most likely would not be open until dinner tomorrow.” No one stated they had room service still available—evidently it’s all they have currently. Parking is $26 a day in the parking deck. One day when we pulled back in, our hotel card did not work at the gate (to make it raise). We explained to the parking deck attendant that we had extended our stay and were still in the hotel. It didn’t matter; we were forced to get out a credit card and pay immediately to get in the deck. The problem is the hotel is billing us too. When my husband went in to explain what happened, Mike stated, “Well, of course, they did. Your key didn’t work.” Thanks, Mike (a.k.a. Captain Obvious). I called the front desk to ask to use two pencils with erasers. “I think that may be difficult . . . Nope. All I have is one pencil with no eraser. You can buy some at Reny’s. Just walk out and go left. Turn left at the corner and just a little ways down there is a store with school supplies.” O.k. I get it—if I had asked for something unusual. But really, you don’t want to be bothered to find two pencils? We were here on business during the COVID crackdown. There’s all kinds of government overreach red tape in Maine. Name, address, phone number. Masks inside and outside at all times. We were told upon arrival that maid service had to be scheduled—and scheduled 24 hrs. in advance. Be aware that MANY restaurants are closed, even for dinner. There are places open to eat, but they are generally quite expensive. The hotel staff recommended 3 or 4 restaurants to us that aren’t open. You should also be aware that this hotel allows dogs to stay in rooms. We have received better service and equal amenities at “lower star” hotels. Why would I stay here again when I can pay less and get just as much? I won’t.

The staff was very friendly and available. They were able to valet bikes I brought with me on my trip free of charge. The parking garage was easy and close, although a bit expensive ($25 a day). They have pet friendly rooms. They didn't have any laundry options which would have come in handy after a particularly wet day outside. Overall, a quality hotel.
