I arrived at night by taxi from the airport and had a big case, that the taxi driver removed from the trunk. The bell person saw that I neede help, and purposely looked away and ignored me. That was a pretty poor intro to the hotel. Also, there were two additional charges that were put on my credit card that I did not do. I disputed the charges with my credit card company. It took the business office to answer me after I tried three times. They told me those charges were not on my bill, and it is accurate that they were not reflected on my bill, however I was charged, and the pending charge did get thru .CHECK charges to your creditcard , that are not listed on your bill. Besides these complaints, the hotel was adequate in every other way,
We spent a couple of nights at this beautiful hotel. It's modern, well-kept and clean. The front desk staff and the concierge were all wonderful and very helpful. We enjoyed the fresh, hot coffee in the morning and delicious cookies in the afternoon. It's a quick walk to the waterfront and there are lots of cafes and restaurants in the area. They have valet parking or you can park at the adjoining garage and went through to the hotel for a little less. The only issue that we had with the hotel was their pet policy. I'm a dog owner myself and have been for over 30 years but I don't want to have a dog in the next room or running over to me as I try to walk through the lobby or get on the elevator. Apparently, they don't charge for dogs and they don't have "pet only" rooms. We walked down the hall to our room and a couple of dogs starting barking and didn't stop. We called the front desk and they came up immediately to check on the situation and they put us in another room and spoke to the woman about her dogs. I just don't understand how don't have pet specific rooms and usually there are specific floors. Again, we were treated very well regarding this situation but I really didn't like how many dogs were in the lobby, elevator, etc. It makes it very difficult for the people who work there because it really can't be controlled. We shouldn't have had to move our room because the woman in that room (she was in there when the barking was going on) chose not to quiet down her pets. I would definitely stay here again but I would make certain that I wasn't in an area where there were pets.…
I scheduled a pre-paid reservation, but Westin Hotel did NOT have a reservation for me. When I arrived, reception told me they made an accommodation at a local Residence Inn. I was fine with that, but they refused to refund me for my money at Westin. Yes - I paid for two hotel rooms !! This is a ridiculous situation and I am shocked!
Upon checking in, The Westin Portland Harborview did not have a room for me here, even though my reservation was prepaid. The reception clerk informed me that accommodation had been made at a local Residence Inn and that I was to show them their letter and a room would be provided. Furthermore, I would be refunded for my stay after checking out of the Residence Inn. However, they did not refund me and have refused to do so. The cost of the Westin is higher than the cost of the Residence Inn. I’ve called their booking agent and sent correspondence to them, and there has been no response. Through Amex, the booking agent claims that because the reservation was changed that I am responsible for the charges even though I did not alter the reservation – Westin did that. Nowhere does it say in the cancellation policy that The Westin can alter the reservation, promise something in writing and be free of honoring their obligation. Avoid the aggravation, stay elsewhere, and whatever you do, do not prepay for your stay! …
The hotel is quite beautiful and clean. We did not interact much with the staff but by phone to ask for our room to be made up. When I called to ask, they said it would be done for us. When we arrived back at the end of the day around 5 p.m., we found the room was not done. Since the housekeeping staff was next door, we asked if they could make up the room next as I called early in the morning. She checked her clipboard and said we were NOT on her list to be cleaned. That was very disappointing for a 4 star hotel. Then we decided to go for a drink at Top of the East. It is gorgeous! We sat at a table and no one came to serve us. So my husband went to the bar and waited over 5 minutes to get a drink standing at the bar. Once we finished our drinks we decided we would like another one and my husband went to the bar again to be ignored for over 5 minutes. At that point we asked for our credit card and that was that. They had one server walking around on the other side and he was overwhelmed. It was obvious they were understaffed, so we walked away and my husband was so upset, it ruined the experience. I would suggest they get a host to be at the front and seat people like they did in the past. Then at around 1 a.m., the fire alarm went off and we all had to evacuate. It was a false alarm but we were left outside for quite awhile. Once we were allowed back in, there was no communication that night or in the a.m. as to what happened or apologizing for what happened. No communication with us was very disheartening. When I answered the the survey review, I got an email from the manager with a sorry but nothing in return for our troubles. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience while staying with us. Your experience during your stay is below our standard. Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and I sincerely apologize for failing to meet your expectations. I have shared your feedback with the entire leadership team to ensure the necessary guidelines are in place and reviewed to prevent these issues from occurring in the future. Again, thank you for bringing this forward so that we are able to address these issues, train, and improve. I hope you choose to stay with us again when your travels bring you back to the area.…
I recently stayed at the Westin Harborview in Portland Maine with my husband. We were staying here for a couple of nights because it was so conveniently located near the State Theatre where we were seeing a two night show. We were so happy and impressed by our stay here! To start, the woman at the reception area, Darlene, was absolutely fantastic! She was so warm and welcoming and really set the tone for our entire stay! She placed us in an absolutely stunning corner room on the 12th floor with beautiful views of the harbor and city. The room itself was clean, the bed was super comfortable. The only down side at all is that there is some street noise (but I wear ear plugs so this was easily fixed). We also tried both The Top of the East (restaurant/lounge) on the 15th floor and Congress Squared (ground floor restaurant ). The views from the top of the east are very nice and worth going to for a drink (expect 16-18 dollars for a drink). I did find the bar tender in the first floor restaurant to be more knowledgeable of off menu drinks and a bit nicer than the top floor. Overall we will certainly be back! It’s a great hotel with a very central location…
Really nice hotel. Great, attentive staff. Good location in downtown Portland. Rooms were of a nice size and well decorated. Gym was large and well-equipped. Staff put out snacks and drinks mid-afternoon most days including gluten free options.
Pros - Good location. Easy walk to the water (and Becky’s Diner). Comfortable quiet room. Friendly, helpful staff. Doreen was super nice as well as the Friday night and Sunday morning receptionists. Cons - Empty body wash dispenser. No biggie. Bar soap available.
This is in many ways an archetypal corporate hotel but does it really well. It isn't characterful but everything is practiced and efficient. The rooms are a decent size and ours was immaculately clean. It was also nice and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The fitness room is one of the best in any hotel I have stayed in, spacious and extremely well equipped. There is an easy 10 minute walk to the heart of the Old Port area and interesting shops to pass along the way. I have seen some reviews complain about vagrants in the streets surrounding the hotel and it's true that there are quite a lot of homeless but they weren't remotely troublesome. I suspect they have more important things to worry about than tourists. My only reservation about the hotel is the lack of easy car parking nearby; the garage next door isn't cheap, although the hotel will get a small discount for guests. Otherwise no issues and I'd certainly stay here again…
Just wanted to let you know we think your policy regarding pets is wonderful. We recently stayed with our two dogs (one small, one medium) and had a great night in Portland. Knowing that we can stay right downtown in a nice hotel without being overcharged or feeling that the dogs are an inconvenience is really a plus for the Westin. Thanks again, see you next time we’re in town.
