We had the opportunity to get away for the night night which rarely happens being self employed in the world hospitality, let alone on a Friday night! So we decided to pack a bag and head to The Old Port for dinner and I started looking at hotels online. HUGE MISTAKE!! I consider myself pretty computer savvy, certainly know my way around. I clicked on a search result which happed to be Trip.com. I found the Regency and looked at what they had available...the rate listed was $159 (the lowest available and a great rate for the property!) however each time I selected that room it would default to $173 and change so I decided to call them (The Regency directly). The woman that I spoke with informed me that they only had balconies and suites available and given that we only planned to stay one night, I decided a simple King would suffice. I went back to the my search results and completed the reservation through Booking.com (I’ve used them before) paid for the reservation online at that time. I decided to make the reservation in my boyfriend’s name, due to the fact that I’d misplaced my license and figured it would simplify things upon check-in. I NEVER ENTERED ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION (no name, credit card info, etc NOTHING) ON ANY OTHER SITE. We checked in maybe 15 min after I made the reservation, when the young woman asked the name on the reservation I gave her my name first (out of habit) and quickly corrected myself, giving her my boyfriend’s name which is what the reservation I made was under. She remarked that she just received it and had just finished processing it. I gave her MY credit card for incidentals with MY name on it. She took it from me to record it, I can only assume she actually read the name on the card!? Anyway, we enjoyed a lovely visit to the Old Port, checked out the next morning and headed back home. That Monday, 4/5, while reviewing bank statements I noticed the Regency had charged me twice for what I naturally assumed was our stay. No biggie, errors happen. I figured it would be a quick fix; I would give them a call, they might need a copy of my bank statement showing both charges, I’d then forward that to them and upon confirmation they would refund the duplicate charge. So I give them a call and I find that it isn’t a duplicate charge, it is actually a “NO SHOW CHARGE” for a reservation in MY NAME!!?? Never made a reservation in my name ONLY my boyfriends name?? The woman I’m speaking with, I think her name was Shelly, refuses to listen or even attempt to understand, almost immediately. It was as if she felt I was trying to deceive them and she was upholding the “letter of the law”?? I guess I’m still amazed really. I was told the reservation was made through Expedia (was NEVER even on their sight??) and that I’d have to contact them regarding the error “because it wasn’t their fault the reservation was made”. No, it wasn’t the properties error, that’s 100% correct. My family have been guests of this property off and on over the years, what’s happened to your, “...second-to-none level of service.”?? I asked to speak to the Manager, (something I can say I’ve never had to do) and I was told that would be the General Manager and she would transfer me to the respective voicemail. I waited on hold for over 10 minutes before disconnecting. I have been round and round with Trip.com. The only thing I have received from them is an email stating they contacted the Regency and confirmed my complaint, that the Regency refused to refund the No Show Fee. How did they even get my name?? I guess I’m just blown away by how I was treated given the situation. The lack of empathy and sincere desire to provide their guests with the level of service they so proudly refer to in their literature (and have been known for in past years), speaks volumes. I’ve always considered this one of the more “special” stays in Portland (slightly boutique), it is certainly crystal clear that they have lost their focus on the customer and that is extremely disappointing. I know I’ve rambled a bit, hoped to give you the big picture. Honestly, I’m extremely frustrated and shocked that I’m still dealing with this. After reading some of the other reviews left, I’m guessing I won’t be hearing back from Management or see a resolution. However, I am optimistic...$200 is $200. One thing is certain, I will be sure to advise our guests inquiring about lodging on their way through Portland to give the Regency a HARD PASS. We operate our business with our guests 100% satisfaction first and foremost, cannot imagine it any other way. …
Excellent location in the heart of walkable Portland. Restaurants and the one of a kind shops also nearby. Two blocks from the seaport and the sound and sights of the sea and seagulls. A hotel of 95 rooms, 3 (?) floors with a warm fireplace guest lobby where one could possibly cuddle with a book. Very spacious well appointed rooms with luxurious bathrooms and amenities: safe, robe, luggage racks, comfortable chair, and well thought out charging stations in room for devices. Parking is valet for $25.00 but there is a parking lot a block away. Coffee in the lobby in the morning which is a nice touch Friendly staff. It’s one of the nicest hotels in Portland and makes visiting Portland a treat!
We have been coming to the Regency a few times a year for the past 8 or so years. We are somewhat local just shy of an hour away. Our birthdays and anniversary fall with in 3 days of each other and we make it a point to stay at the Regency and celebrate our special days. This hotel and staff are bare none the most accommodating and genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The front desk manager Mercedes made sure that our stay was comfortable and relaxing. Her hospitality skills are amazing and she goes above and beyond to ensure we had a great weekend. When we stay we always eat our meals right at the hotel even though there is many choices in the Old Port, the service and food are always top notch. Can never forget to give a shout out to John in the dinning room, always friendly and always makes us feel special. I see why when we come here that there are always familiar faces, which is something not seen a lot in the hospitality industry. I know this from working in this industry for over 25 years. Kudos to the management. Happy employees make for happy guests! We look forward to our next mini vacation hopefully in the spring or early fall, and lastly just wanted to say that The Regency never disappoints! …
Staff was ok but acted like they were doing you a favor. Of the 3 registration staff I dealt with only one was really friendly and helpful. Restaurant was close but you were supposed to get same menu in Bar. Bar staff was friendly and helpful. They do not clean rooms in between registation and check out due to COVID. If you need clean towels you have to ask for them. Rooms were small but clean upon arrival.
We loved this hotel! It is perfectly located in the historical district on a charming cobblestone street. You can easily walk anywhere from there. The hotel is clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We especially enjoyed our relaxing spa experience and loved the pillow top beds! The staff was warm and welcoming. I would highly recommend this hotel.
