We had a very pleasant two day stay at the Danforth. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The staff (Libby and housekeeping) is very welcoming and friendly. Amenities similar to a four-star hotel (high quality towels, turn-down service, free wifi, robe and slippers, etc.). We only sampled the included breakfast once, but it was yummy. The location is about...

Location a bit off the main road, but an enjoyable walk into downtown. A very nice B&B. Very comfortable bed with upgraded amenities. On the morning of our early departure we missed our breakfast. The proprietor was there to waive us goodbye but did not offer us a take out, which was quite disappointing considering the whole point of staying...

The Danforth is an elegant Inn that provided excellent service. The public rooms are well appointed with a mix of contemporary pieces and beautiful antiques. The historic property has some beautiful and unusual architectural detailing. Our room was on the third floor, with a nice view, great bed, and a very large bathroom. The Management and staff were wonderful, storing...

The Danforth proved to be all that we had heard it would be. The house, inside and out, is a delight to the eye. Bret gave us a most gracious welcome, and went above and beyond to answer our every question about restaurants and routes. The decor in the Danforth is a perfect blend of classic and contemporary -- in...

Really comfortable and clean property, with lots of special touches....breakfasts were delicious, tea and cookies in the afternoon as well. Lots of character to the building and modern and tasteful decor. I highly recommend as a place to stay in Portland.

My husband and I visited Portland and stayed here with our new baby for an anniversary. This place was absolutely perfect and exceeded our already high expectations. Everything is beautifully appointed, and the staff was gracious, welcoming, and kind. The Danforth was recently taken up by a new owner, who insisted on driving us to the train station when we...

Stayed in the Artisian Room and it was spacious and beautiful. The bathroom was amazing with its 2 skylights. The property had such character and the staff was so accommodating and polite. The breakfast in the morning was so good and they served you each course and the breakfast was hot, not the usually continental breakfast you get at the...

In June, my wife and I visited Maine for the first time. Our first two nights in Portland were at one of the typical chain hotels, and it was nice. On our third night, we stayed at The Danforth in town. How I wish we had stayed all three nights there. Our room was as good as if not better...

My husband and I recently stayed at The Danforth for a weekend. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The manager greeted us at the door and before showing us to our room gave us a tour of this lovely inn. The property is located on a quiet side street within walking distance to our favorite restaurants. Our...

The staff provided great service and I had a wonderful stay. Breakfast was delicious. My room was very clean and calm. We had someone meet us in the parking lot to take our bags, that was great. I will return.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Danforth is the grande dame of the Portland, Maine boutique hotel scene. Built in the 1800's, extensive renovations to design and (mostly) new bathrooms have married historic gentility with classic but contemporary stylings.
