The Danforth proved to be all that we had heard it would be. The house, inside and out, is a delight to the eye. Bret gave us a most gracious welcome, and went above and beyond to answer our every question about restaurants and routes. The decor in the Danforth is a perfect blend of classic and contemporary -- in... More

Really comfortable and clean property, with lots of special touches....breakfasts were delicious, tea and cookies in the afternoon as well. Lots of character to the building and modern and tasteful decor. I highly recommend as a place to stay in Portland.

My husband and I visited Portland and stayed here with our new baby for an anniversary. This place was absolutely perfect and exceeded our already high expectations. Everything is beautifully appointed, and the staff was gracious, welcoming, and kind. The Danforth was recently taken up by a new owner, who insisted on driving us to the train station when we... Stayed in the Artisian Room and it was spacious and beautiful. The bathroom was amazing with its 2 skylights. The property had such character and the staff was so accommodating and polite. The breakfast in the morning was so good and they served you each course and the breakfast was hot, not the usually continental breakfast you get at the... More

In June, my wife and I visited Maine for the first time. Our first two nights in Portland were at one of the typical chain hotels, and it was nice. On our third night, we stayed at The Danforth in town. How I wish we had stayed all three nights there. Our room was as good as if not better... More

My husband and I recently stayed at The Danforth for a weekend. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The manager greeted us at the door and before showing us to our room gave us a tour of this lovely inn. The property is located on a quiet side street within walking distance to our favorite restaurants. Our... More

The staff provided great service and I had a wonderful stay. Breakfast was delicious. My room was very clean and calm. We had someone meet us in the parking lot to take our bags, that was great. I will return.

I recently stayed at the Danforth for a few days. I was a great experience. The manager greeted us at the car with an umbrella because it was raining! He showed us to our room and explained every thing we needed to know during our stay. The property is located on a quiet side street and the grounds are kept... More

My wife and I spent one night in the Danforth and truly enjoyed it. The inn is just a few blocks from the Old Port and a few blocks from the Arts District, making it easily walkable to lots of great restaurants (of which, Portland seems to have a disproportionate number). The Inn itself is charming and surprisingly spacious. Wide... More

The excellent staff make you feel so comfortable and are so helpful for just about anything you need. Each morning I got up to a delicious breakfast and there was alway coffee and cookies available should you need a snack. The location allows walking to shops and restaurants. My corner room was nicely decorated and very spacious, clean and comfortable.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Danforth is the grande dame of the Portland, Maine boutique hotel scene. Built in the 1800's, extensive renovations to design and (mostly) new bathrooms have married historic gentility with classic but contemporary stylings. Basement billiard room, a widow's walk with views, three course breakfasts - who could ask for more? A recent review called The Danforth an historic mansion with a hip vibe. ... more   less
