We needed a one night stay on the weekend. Royal Anchor was able to help us out. First floor with pool view was very good and could hear the ocean! Pool, grounds and room were clean. Plenty of places to sit and relax. We did use the pool however it was a bit chilly. Bathroom was very small. Away from the center of OOB. We would stay again.

Stayed last August 2021 during a heat wave. To be honest the rooms do not have central air but even with the heatwave it was ok. Some people brought fans from home. The view is excellent, the pool is nicly heated. The beach is right there and the hotel has chairs for the beach. Bring your own umbrella if you need one. They serve free breakfast daily and have a snack shack and bar on the beach. Plenty of parking and many games to play on the beach and a baskeball court for the kids. I will return this summer 2022 and stay a little longer. Book early so you can get in. Great staff as well and the rooms are nice and clean!

We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Anchor immensely. We had a room facing the ocean and had a beautiful view - especially the sunrise. The private patio with lounge chairs was very private and very comfortable. The place is immaculate! The room was immaculate! The beds were comfortable. The bathroom is on the tiny size but it is understandable. We loved the tiki bar with live afternoon entertainment. We also loved being right on the ocean and being able to walk for miles in either direction. The hotel provided very generous breakfast boxes with enough food that we were able to have some leftovers for snacks on our drive up the coast. Guests and staff alike were friendly. We chose to stay here instead of Portland because of price and being on the beach. So very glad that we did that! Portland was a short drive and we had the advantage of the beach. Would highly recommend a stay here!!

I stayed at Royal Anchor on Labor day with my Girl Frond then the next weekend with family and friends. Both stays were extended Friday until Tuesday. Rooms are spotless, staff are friendly and helpful! They go out of their way to helpful and always courteous! You can’t beat the location and now they have live music which is fun! I can’t say enough good, positive things about my experience!! Above and beyond the best time I’ve had!!

This hotel only has 2 queen beds in each room no kings available and NO air conditioning. Otherwise was a great location on the beach for price point. Beautiful morning walks to watch the sunrise, heated pool. All rooms have patio or balcony space, plenty of areas to picnic. Front of hotel by beach they have a outdoor bar and serve sandwich’s/snacks. Entertainment often on weekends in which other beach goers attend otherwise private beach area so not to crowded. Older style hotel but done nicely, beds just ok pretty firm. Don’t recommend the pier very dirty place. Just 23 min drive into Portland and about 30 to Kennebunkport, so good find for exploring the area with access to Beach. We would stay here again so we hope this review helps. Enjoy your stay!

I never write reviews, so the fact that I am so distressed about my stay here says a lot. I didn’t expect much from a beach motel in OOB. But I did expect common decency. We had to miss the first night of our three night reservation due to the funeral. I expected to be charged a fee, but we were charged the full rate even though we gave notice. The clerk didn’t even give any condolences. This hotel has zero accommodation for people with disabilities. I am on crutches and the clerk shrugged at me when I asked if we could have a room on the first floor. They don’t have an elevator and we were on the third floor. They don’t have handicapped parking. The clerk also refused to help me with my bags up to my room. Our room had a weak fan and no air conditioning. It was 95 degrees out and it was a sauna in our room. I was also nervous about the rusting railing on our deck. This hotel needs a serious safety and accessibility upgrade. The “high speed” wifi didn’t work at all and my husband had to go to a co-working space to take meetings, when he should have been able to take them poolside. The pool and snack bar staff were nice and the beach is great. And whoever left that review saying they usually stay at five-star hotels and we’re impressed by the Royal Anchor, is totally lying. I’ve actually stayed at a five-star hotel with a Michelin-starred restaurant. You would have to be insane (or a fake review) to compare that experience to this cinderblock by the sea. I am not a princess either. I’ve stayed in backpacker hostels all over the world and have stayed in plenty of passable motels in OOB such as the Copley-LaReine, Friendship and others. Do better Royal Anchor.

My husband and I visited here while out on our motorcycle. We were looking at our surroundings and was on line looking at rates etc. as we were contemplating staying here. We have stayed at numerous places on OOB over the years and this felt like it would be one of the nicest. Then I encountered the guy who made me want to run from this place. I needed to use the rest room. I had gone to the lobby restroom in the past so was on my way when I was stopped. He asked where I was going; I said to the ladies room, he said I could not, it was only for guests. I was shocked that he just assumed I was not. How could he possible have known if I was or was not? I told him, I had used it in the past and he said no, your not. It really wasn't what he was saying, it was how. I feel very strongly that he profiled me. He looked at my "Biker" clothes and treated me like I was less than him. I was so appalled with how he spoke to and treated me that I just looked at him and said I don't think I want to be here. His reply was "fine, bye". OK. Bye. Later that day, ran into another couple, on a bike, said they were treated poorly too. A girl overheard our conversation and said that the owner would be pissed (her words). Well here is his chance to address this rude employee. We for one will never be back. We were there Sunday August 8th.

chor Royal Anchor is in a nice quiet section of Pine Point. My standards are extremely high and I usually book nothing less than stellar 5 star hotels/resorts. My wife booked this weekend getaway at Royal Anchor and being totally honest I didn’t expect to be impressed. I just figured that I would lower my standards and make the best of it. I have to say that from the moment I pulled into this large parking lot I was impressed. The parking lot was large and tidy, the exterior looked clean and the receptionist at check-in was the sweetest person you ever want to meet according to my wife and I also found that to be true when getting breakfast from her. Our room although a bit smaller than we’re accustomed to was very neat and clean. The balcony was spacious with two lounge chairs and a table. It also gave us a view of the ocean and beach from the second floor. We selected a room that did not have AC and I was concerned about it possibly being hot in the evenings and at night when we’re in the room, but that ended up being a wasted concern. With the screened in balcony sliding door open we never felt uncomfortable. To the contrary I found myself closing the door in the middle of the night. Granted the highest the temperature got that weekend was around 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Royal Anchor has a very cozy tiki bar and seating area with some awesome bar tenders. They also have entertainers performing during the daytime hours. It can get a bit loud but the good thing is that they shut down around 6-7. They also have a snack bar where you can purchase snacks, sandwiches and soups. The young lady who works the snack bar with the adorable glasses was one of the friendliest and personable people you’ll ever meet. What a joy she was to talk with while waiting for my order. She is an awesome ambassador of Royal Anchor. The boxed breakfast was full of variety including a Jimmy Dean egg and sausage breakfast sandwich and orange Juice. Loved the Keurig with the Green Mountain coffee which is one of my favorites. We really enjoyed our stay here. They had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The only thing I would recommend bringing is your own beach umbrella which we did because it’s not one of the amenities but not to say that they don’t have one or two stored away that other guest left behind that you could use. The beach is massive with plenty of room. A half mile down the road to the left is an area with stores and other things and the pier is a little further although we didn’t walk there. We’ve been there before. We prefer the Pine Point end of the beach now. The only negative would be the size of the bathroom although it does have a tub which many beach resort hotels don’t Have. Two of the house keepers weren’t very courteous when we said hello to them. They didn’t respond at all two days in a row. I told my wife that they may be Haitian or French and don’t speak English or even deaf but my wife reminded me that every place we go outside the US one of the first things we do is learn how to say good morning, please and thank you and who can’t read a smile and lips saying good morning. So there is no excuse for them not being hospitable and I agreed. Our room was cleaned impeccably on day two to the point of neatly lining up my granddaughter’s Barbie dolls that she left on the bed neatly on her pillow but it was cleaned horribly on day three and day three was the day I quadrupled my daily tip because I was so impressed with day two. The trash can was left in the middle of the floor the bed spread was just pulled forward. The room looked as if she was in a hurry or got distracted. It was weird. I also asked the housekeeper earlier that morning (which by the way was not one of the two I previously mentioned) if she could send someone to open the safe because I wanted to use it. She tried to open it herself but her code wouldn’t work which made me happy about safe security quite frankly. She said she would have someone come up to open it but no one ever came to open it. Although she did tell us the best direction to walk in when I asked her and we really enjoyed our walk. overall the housekeepers keep the place very clean and maintained. Just some of them may need some remedial training in the customer service and hospitality area. At least the 3 that We had experience with. We Would definitely return here. Perfect location and comfortable accommodations and for the most part awesome staff. It’s a really happy atmosphere and our experience with the other guest was awesome as well. A very good clientele of guest there and the hotel had a very family welcoming vibe. We enjoyed our time here and my 7 year old granddaughter tLOVED it. One more thing. There’s no elevator but the stairs are easy and only 3 floors. We were on the 2nd floor and had a great view of the pool and a good view of the beach and ocean. Awesome clean pool and even has a deep end. Loved it.

For context OOB doesn’t have any chain hotels, just inns, motels and bnbs. The royal anchor is the nicest hotel on the entire beach strip. You are just steps away from the beach, the location is nice because you are farther from the pier which means less people/crowds. The hotel also has a pool and patio tables and grills to use as well. There is a bar area and live music on the weekend with a variety of music. The rooms are nice and only a few of them have AC. Otherwise the hotel is very clean. I even saw staff cleaning windows and vacuuming the carpets and cleaning the patio daily. Breakfast still comes in a box due to covid. K cups are available in the room. I think the hotel is great but updates are needed as it’s at least 20 years old. The hotel bathroom tile was mismatched and the toilet was old. A little more attention to the decor would truly make it 5 stars.
