Detailed Reviews
Pool was beautiful and grandkids had a blast on the splashpad. Was a decent experience until we tried to leave our "pull-through" site. Some person parked his truck right in the middle of the exit drive from the path. We had to maneuver our 32 foot trailer out an alternate way asking people to move their cars so we could get out. Took almost a half hour to get out. Admittedly it was Labor Day weekend, but the lack of parking for the sites pushes parked cars out on the road... so it only takes one inconsiderate person to to block you in.
The experience during the week when it was less crowded was pretty good. The park is very heavily weighted towards seasonal sites.
Other than how tight it is, everything else was fine. But having a big truck and a large trailer... we won't be back. One of the people who had to move their vehicle to allow us to get out agreed that it is way too tight and they were not going to return either, for the same reason.
Bottom line, i you have a smaller trailer and/or are very experienced in tight maneuvering, I would recommend. Otherwise, no.

We rented the 2-bedroom cabin with loft #C2. It was clean, the kids enjoyed the loft so much! Basically, the loft is intended for kids, as you can only sit and not stand, the ceiling is too low. No biggie, the kids loved their little hideaway to sleep & play games. The front desk was great and Scott allowed us to check in early, giving us almost a whole day extra. The dishes were clean, the unit was clean, the screen porch was great and the gas fireplace in the living room was awesome. It was October, so chilly in the am...we lit the fireplace. Nice touch! The lady in the store was so kind. We needed apple sauce for our granddaughter to take her pill and the store did not carry it. The store lady gave us her personal, unopened snack size applesauce, with an extra one for the next day. So kind of her! I would definitely recommend Wagon Wheel. They were great and we had so much fun! Thank you for everything!

Rented a deluxe cottage for the month of May. Cottage was more than I had expected. It was fully furnished, propane fireplace, PET FRIENDLY (always a huge plus), 1 and a half baths, loft, outdoor firepit, gas grill, etc.. also came with a golf cart (lots of fun). Resort grounds were spotless, bathroom/laundry facilities were immaculate. Separate adult pool and hot tub was awesome. Splash pad and kids pool were fun for niece and nephew. Manager Brian was above and beyond accommodating. Rented 2 cabins for May 2016. Overall great place. It's proximity to beach, walking trails, restaurants, the pier was great.

As a last minute getaway at the end of the summer to one of our favorite areas in the country - Ocean Park, Maine, we stayed in one of the rental cabins at Wagon Wheel in August 2013. We were expecting a fabulous experience since we had recently rented in the Virginia Park section of Wild Acres and the place was spotless and well stocked. What a disappointment!! The cabins are segregated from the rest of the campground and you cannot get anywhere without exiting out to the road and coming back in the main campground entrance. They are terribly close together with no privacy and the closest pool is an "adults only" with the family pool a rather long hike.
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon an hour before checkin time and were told "give us about 30 mintues to just check and see that the cabin is ready. After 2 1/2 hours sitting in a hot car we were finally let into the cabin. I expected to wait the hour but this was ridiculous. Had I known I would have taken the kids to the beach for a while. Once finally being let in, the cabin was freezing and I could not figure out how to shut off the air conditioning. I called for assistance and was told to "just set it at a warmer temp and the heat will kick in". This was a stunning day in August and I was in a campground and really just wanted to open the windows and enjoy the fresh pine air. I finally solved the issue myself by removing the control unit from the wall (it was easy to put back on when we left). Unfotunately opening the windows did not work out that well as we had to keep the blinds and windows closed on one whole side of the cabin as the folks next store were loud and smoking various substances the entire time we were there.
The layout of the cabin was perfect for our family of two adults and three children (though I would not recommend for babies or toddlers as the kids bedroom is a loft) and I set about preparing to make dinner. Based on my prior experience with a rental cabin from a SunRV Resort I expected to find a fully stocked kitchen with pots, pans, flatware, dishes, can opener, serving bowls/utencils and the like. Seriously folks - there was NO POT and only a dirty stained frying pan to work with. Tell me how I was supposed to make Spaghetti with Marinara in a frying pan?? I had to call the office again to get a pot and was told "we've been really busy and sometimes things disappear from the cabins". That not only did not resolve my problem but did not do much to make me feel safe. We were told they had no kitchen gear in stock and would have to go to the store to buy replacements and could probably be back by 8pm. We were travelling with young children who were hungry, cranky, and would not be able to wait until 8pm for dinner so that was not really working for me. I started about going door to door to the other cabins and finally found somone who could lend us a pot. The VERY nice and helpful staff member who I flagged down as he was riding by on a Golf Cart offered to come in and check on everything for us. He even came back to the cabin with a grill brush and cleaned the outdoor grill which was covered in the remnants of whatever was last cooked on it. He also came back with pillows as there were none in the cabin. It is important to note that the things we were asking for are all things listed on their website as provided by the campground. We brought along all of the necessary supplies and niceties which we knew were not provided.
The campground looks like a nice one for Seasonals with prime areas clearly reserved for seasonal campers. Tent sites are a gravel and grass field with not privacy and no trees. The bathroom facilities are very nice and the family pool was comfortable, though not very deep so the older kids were a bit bored. Lots of activities throughout and a very good playground. Unfortunatley they had a classic rock cover band in some sort of outdoor theater and they played until 11pm. Luckily we were on the other side of the campground so it was not too terribly loud but my heart goes out to the poor families with little ones in tents as those sites are right next to the band.
As a traveller I have camped in the remote wilderness eating dehydrated food, traversed state and private campgrounds in a tent, pop-up, and travel trailer. I've also stayed at roadside motels, hotel chains, and four star hotels and resorts. I've typically a "make do" type of person and am just as happy cooking hot dogs over an open fire as I am eating a grourmet meal in a 5 star restaurant. This is the first time I have every written a negative review. My disappointment was truly with the lack of consideration and attention and (almost) complete disregard from the campground staff.
If the campground wants to continue to provide rental cabins they seriously need to take a lesson from the SunRV staff at Wild Acres. I will never stay there again no matter how desperate we are to find a place last minute during the heigh of the OOB season.

We just arrived home after a wonderful family reunion at Wagon Wheel. We rented two cottages and my brother stayed in his pop-up in the trailer area. The cottages were very clean and well-maintained with propane grills, fire pits and plenty of kitchen accessories. We were clearly told that we needed to bring our old linens. The pool and splash pad were beautiful and not crowded during the week. The staff was friendly and accommodating. My brother said the showers and bathroom facilities were the nicest he has ever experienced while camping. Ten minutes from Old Orchard Beach with $1 trolley rides that pick you up right at Wagon Wheel! Close to Portland and Freeport...lots of activities. Great place for the kids. We would definitely stay here again.

This is a family campground that is managed by a professional guy (Brian) that truly cares about what he is doing. There are continual activities for the children, including a very clean pool, a water slide pad, playground, game room, activity center and so much more. It is a safe and clean property. The bathrooms have been remodeled and are clean and you have access to washer and dryers. There is also an adult only pool and hot tub on the other side of the grounds.
Highly recommend this facility.

A disappointing visit at best.
As you turn right just after the office check in, there is this extremely large campsite with setup that belongs in a trailer park housing area. I was so excited to see the size of the lot and the enormous amount of things allowed. The deck is huge and then they have a lovely yard beyond the trailer and deck as well as a shed beyond the yard area and a driveway as well.
I have to say we were impressed right off the bat. There were two vehicles in the driveway, another in front of the deck, a golf cart and two jet skis stored as well. I was ready to sign up.
Until the smell of pot hit us as we drove by. Very strong smell. I was totally unaware that Maine is an open air marijuana State. What a great idea!!!
We settled in to our site pumped because of our intro into the campground but it all went downhill after that. The roads are great being paved but what a mess. Nothing was cleaned up. The roads were covered with piles of pine tree needles and our shoes ended up with sap on them from walking around.
On a walk during our visit which was hindered by incessant barking of two little yipper dogs. Lo and Behold, they were at the elaborate site at the entrance. Those dogs barked all day and the mother just kept yelling for them to stop. My happy thoughts were slowly dissipating and were totally wiped away when we turned the corner on our walk to the next street over and saw a man yelling and ranting at a woman. Sadly there were children there as well. We stopped and stayed to make sure no harm was done.He was in a frantic mode and we were concerned. When he left we questioned another neighbor and they said he was the park manager. We were stunned at the unprofessional behavior of this man and NO man should ever treat a woman like that.
Needless to say, that was enough and we will not be purchasing a cabin on this property.
I gave two points because the bathrooms were spotless and the campers were great but that is not enough to change my opinion of the awful way this place is run.
Shame of that man.

+1
I visited with my husband, 3 year old and 18month old. We opted to rent a cabin since we're not tent campers and don't have an RV, but there were plenty of both of those there! The cabin (R22) was in the perfect spot, less than a 5 min walk to the family pool and splash pad, playground, and basketball court. The splashpad really sealed the deal. With young kids who still nap, took the shuttle down to the pier for half the day and spent the remainder of the day at Wagon Wheel. The splashpad was clean, modern, and TONS of fun (for all four of us!) Then there was the family pool, separate from the adult only pool; so no worries about kids being a little loud. The entire place was clean, felt safe, and was only about a 10 min shuttle drive from the pier. The cabin was amazing with 2 bedrooms, a great living room and kitchen and a decent sized screened in porch! We will definitely be going back; I think Wagon Wheel was the start of an annual summer tradition for our family.

Since being purchased by Sun Communities, this park has really improved its overall appearance. Beautiful landscaping, privacy fences, playground updates, hot top roads and renovated bathhouses to name just a few!

Hi Trimelanie,
Tents are welcome on any of our available sites and we are surrounded by tall pine trees, however we are not secluded or rustic. We have a resort feel and offer several amenities including: children’s activities, camp store, pools, adult hot tub, playground, a splash waterpark, horseshoes, golf and pedal cart rentals. We are a mile and a half from 7 miles of sandy beach. July and August are our busiest months. To give you a better idea please see our Facebook page at Wagon Wheel RV Resort, there are several pictures of the campground there. Thank you for your interest. Any questions give us a call at 207-934-2160 or 866-305-0051.
