Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for a week. It was kind of a last-minute decision to travel due to COVID, but I feel that every reasonable precaution that could be taken was in place here. Indoor gathering areas are closed, masks required when inside the building and hand sanitizer sitting out to use as you come and go. There is also limited housekeeping service unless you request more. Precautions aside, this place is both beautiful and convenient. The buildings have a common grassy sitting area with a view of the estuary and the beach, and serene, tasteful decor in the rooms. The location is steps from the path to the beach road and to restaurants and shops, but it's set off of the main street so that it feels more secluded. Our room on the third floor looked right out over the water and we were able to watch the sun come up if we happened to be awake early. We had a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Marginal Way House, and I sincerely hope that we'll be visiting again next year!

We enjoyed a couple of nights here at the end of July. The hotel did a wonderful job of cleaning and ensuring a safe environment during the pandemic. There is no food service, bar, or restaurant here so that was not an issue that had to be addressed. Room cleaning and replacing linens was an option if you wanted it. It was extremely hot during our stay but the room had excellent air conditioning.
The benefit of staying here is an attentive staff, nicely appointed, comfortable rooms and the fantastic location overlooking Ogunquit Beach. You are within walking distance of all of the downtown shops and restaurants and just a minute away from the north end of the Marginal Way walking path along the Atlantic Ocean. I would encourage anyone visiting the area to stay here at the Marginal Way House.

Our planned trip was cancelled due to the pandemic so we needed a safe location to visit for 3 nights. Fortunately, Ogunquit is in an approved area for Vermonters to visit without a quarantine requirement in Maine or at home so we made a reservation at the Marginal Way Hotel. After a few calls and emails, primarily about the hotel’s safety procedure and each person we communicated was exceedingly helpful. When we arrived, having paid in advance, our name was on the door and keys and information inside. Everything was clean and welcoming. Even though our first day has been raining on and off we have walked the beach, visited several nice stores and had a fabulous dinner. Can¡t wait for tomorrow!

We stayed at the Marginal Way House for three nights, on a two-week trip through parts of New England. This hotel was our least favorite. While the staff was very nice and very helpful, we did not particularly enjoy our stay. The bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were substandard (why do so many hotels provide cheap pillows?), there was no couch in the living room but an uncomfortable iron daybed instead. The bathroom was new, with a good shower, but the towels were thin. There was a kitchen, which we didn't use, and the tile floors throughout were cold plus we could hear all the noise from the upstairs unit. The only real pleasant parts of our stay were the location and the outside porch, which we enjoyed as often as possible--except when the sprinklers were on and the porch furniture was sopping wet. This property is probably a good one for a family and/or for those who are not looking for a more upscale hotel experience. The hotel was more expensive than the experience there would seem to warrant. (Some tips: Mornings in Paris in town has terrific croissants and other pastries, as well as espresso drinks, and the ice cream shop a few doors from Wharf Lane has fabulous ice cream.)

Response from Laura Blake, General Manager at Marginal Way House
Responded Sep 20, 2021
Hello and thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. I apologize that you took issue with some of the amenities in the unit you booked for your stay with us. Often, if a guest brings up any issues they are having with the office, we are able to find acceptable alternatives (more firm or plush pillows, different towels, a bed board if a guest finds a mattress too soft etc). Unfortunately if issues arent brought to someones attention during the stay, there isn't much we can do after the fact :/ We always appreciate the opportunity to "make it right" for our guests if something isn't to their standard on check in. If your travels bring you back to Ogunquit, we do hope you will give us another chance and provide us with an opportunity to show you why we consistently receive 5 star feedback from our guests, both new and return.

This small hotel is in the perfect location to explore Ogunquit and to enjoy one of the best beached in Southern Maine. They did a great job with cleaning and social distancing, we had no worries. There is no food service, bar or restaurant, so there was no issue with any of that. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable The location allows you to walk to all the shops downtown and you are only a minute from the Marginal Way walking trail. I recommend the Marginal Way house for your stay in the Ogunquit area.

My husband & I just got back from a post-wedding mini "Honeymoon" at the Marginal Way House in Ogunquit. We stayed in the little cottage right at the edge where the property meets the ocean. It was.... exquisite to say the least!
Upon checking in we were greeted by a super friendly inn keeper who walked us down to the cottage. There were other people waiting to check in as well & the staff was on top of ensuring that proper COVID protocol was in place by making sure everyone was keeping safe distance from each other..
We were immediately blown away by the view & even more impressed upon walking into the cottage. It was spacious, fully amenitied, and perfectly appointed! It was bright and cleanly decorated with tasteful yet sweet decorations. Super comfortable bedding and seating, everything we needed to feel at home while being away. We fully enjoyed the fantastic view while sitting in the adirondack chairs just outside the cottage:) Talk about relaxing.....
The property itself is extremely well kept with blooming rows of flowers everywhere and decorated for the fall season. It is located right in the heart of downtown Ogunquit so everything is walkable. We highly recommend doing the Marginal Way trail that runs along the ocean, it is breathtakingly beautiful! Our neighbors staying in other units around us were quiet & everyone we encountered there were so friendly & courteous.
We cannot recommend The Marginal Way House highly enough, and we cannot wait until we can get back there for another amazing and relaxing stay!!

My family has been staying at the MWH for over 20 years now. We love the location, which allows you to enjoy an oceanfront view right from the lawn or get down to the beach in a five minute walk. The staff is friendly, and they did a great job of taking COVID precautions. It was nice to get away for a week and we were able to enjoy the wide array of local restaurants (both outdoor and indoor). Highly recommend!

We loved our stay at the Marginal Way House. My husband and I spent a week in Room 103 which was quiet, comfortable, clean, and provided us with a coffee maker, small fridge and microwave. The room is located at ground level, below the first floor of the motel so there are a few stairs to go down. There's a nice little entry way from the main room that is well light. A small bistro table, overlooking a garden, was nice for coffee. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower, plenty of shelf space and a small sink. Housekeeping was excellent. Just put the card on the door to indicate whether you want housekeeping.
The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and worked with us when we first booked in January.
The large Adirondack chairs on the lawn are the best. We often brought our meals out to see the beautiful water view and watch the tide come in. We liked the family atmosphere that had outdoor tables for guests to enjoy.
You can't beat the location on Wharf Lane which is steps to the footpath to the beach - an 8 minute walk - and five minutes to Marginal Way. Just a walk up the hill to Shore Road brings you to all the shops, restaurants and great coffee if you are an early riser at 6:30 a.m. The Village Market is a short walk where we bought lunch and dinner.
This was the first time we stayed at this motel and can't wait to return. You park the car and you walk everywhere saving on trolley and parking fees. In other years, we stayed at the Ogunquit Tides, a very nice hotel, but far from beach, Marginal Way and Perkins Cove. We spent a small fortune in parking and trolleys.

+1
We stayed in two different rooms at The Marginal Way House this week - #202 in the Wharf House for 3 nights and #500 - The Cottage for 4 nights. #202 was nice, with a beautiful view, covered front porch, comfortable king bed and large shower. Our only suggestion would be to replace the 2-person couch with a twin sleeper sofa to accommodate one more person.
Just about everything was perfect with #500. It was spotlessly clean when we checked in, with a gorgeous view of the river and ocean. There was a large dining table that seated 4 for dining and playing games. Queen bed was comfortable, but the daybed...not so much. We would suggest replacing the daybed with a sleeper sofa, which would provide comfortable seating as well as an additional bed. Other than outside, there was no comfortable place to sit and read. One other suggestion would be to install a ceiling fan over the queen bed to cool down the unit. We had to turn on the A/C because their wasn’t much air circulating.
Other than these couple of suggestions, our stay was great. Laura and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We will be back!

When booking this hotel, I had two very nice women help me choose the perfect room for a four night stay in July (high season). One day before arriving, I had a medical issue arise and contacted the hotel. I offered to provide documentation, but they said no need. They were SO UNBELIEVABLY KIND and allowed my entire deposit of $650 to be applied for a future stay with only 24 hour notice of my cancellation! I was so impressed and grateful.
