Think a attic on the second floor ,depending on your standard carpets have not been changed in a decade narrow stairs and small room , toilet was across from sink Had to sit on a angle on the toilet ,yes I am tall but not a giant 6ft2 Found2 hairs under the covers and a stain on the cover , they don’t change covers After every guest That is for sure , sheets also a no ,for hairs would not be there Mold in theupper shower not pleased ,I ate breakfast outside , my friend said it was good 2 years ago but has slipped a lot since then in quality.
My husband and I and our best friends arrived Friday and were greeted by Bob who was absolutely wonderful. The rooms we were in were in the 3rd floor and there was a Nook overlooking the Ocean. Magical is all I can say. Saturday morning we went to breakfast at 830 and the service and food was exceptional. The Inn is beautifully decorated for christmas. I have read all the reviews and really do not understand where these people come from. We had an amazing time and look forward to our next visit. Oh and the coffee in the main room is available 24/7 with lots of goodies to have with your coffee.
Our Home away from home when we visit Ogunquit! My wife and I have stayed here so many times that we've lost count. When I read the other reviews which speak of rudeness, I can only think that the visitors were the rude ones. We've never been treated badly or rudely at the Rockmere. I can't even imagine Andy or Bob being rude to anyone. This property is warm and cozy and very clean. Each room has its own personality which you can clearly see from their website. Our favorite is the Drudy on the top floor. It's always quiet and peaceful. The location is great, about midway along the Marginal Way. Every breakfast is delicious and made with love. Breakfast is also a great time to get to know the hosts and other guests. Every conversation is interesting. This is their home and we are fortunate they share it with us.…
Best kept secret In Ogunquit. My first time visiting Maine. This bed and breakfast had the Perfect view of the sea. You could hear the crashing waves of the ocean. Everything was walking distance and what a gorgeous brisk walk I had on the Marginal Way. Beautiful home with all the wonderful amenities you need at your fingertips. I so loved talking to Bob over breakfast which he and Andy prepared. Loved my stay and will most definitely have my kids and friends visit this cozy home. Many thanks from Austin Texas.
The location of this property is prime location....however, the location is not worth it because the owner's were unwelcoming and rude. The property is not kept up and the rooms were extremely dusty. Arrived at the lodge around 3pm....commented on the coffee cups that were in the front entry and asked if it was possible to get a cup of coffee - I was told to go into town if you want coffee, coffee is only served with breakfast. We had booked three rooms for 2 nights but the second night never happened. After the owner was again rude as could be - we left with his blessings ("get out, I am tired of all of you people").........We have stayed in many, many B&B's and Inns of all kinds.....but this was the worst - a nightmare that was laughable.
The setting was lovely and close to everything including steps from the Marginal Walkway. However, The best thing that could happen to this property is for the owners to find someone to purchase it and bring it back to life. The place was overgrown, messy, and we were overwhelmed with all the “stuff” everywhere. Our small rooms were not clean and when our friends complained about dog hair on their bedding, the owners gave them sheets and they had to make their bed. The carpet on the stairs and in their room was filthy! We have stayed at many B&B’s and Inns throughout the US and abroad, and this one was the first to receive a negative review from us.
Mu husband and I stayed the the Rockmere for 4 nights and had a wonderful experience. As the only bed and breakfast on the Marginal Way, you couldn't have asked for a better location combining sea view from the porch and bedrooms with an intimate bed and breakfast experience. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch, enjoying looking out onto the bountiful gardens and watching people walk along the marginal way. Our room was room number 8, the John-Dori and we absolutely loved it. It has its own entrance from the porch, so we had an added measure of privacy. The house is very old, so some accommodations had to be made, like a portable A/C unit in the room which did its job very well! Good thing too, because we were there during a heat wave! In the mornings, I would stop by the lobby and grab a cup of coffee, as breakfast was not served until 8:30 am. I enjoyed my coffee on the porch, then went for a walk along the Marginal Way. When I came back, we went to the beautiful dining room for breakfast. Now, this is not breakfast in a restaurant, but breakfast in Bob and Andy's house. You are an invited guest, so they serve you what's for breakfast! There is no menu. And every day it was something new and delicious! Andy is a fantastic cook! Not only was the breakfast different every day, so were the coordinated placemats and china. It was quite a lovely experience. Bob and Andy enjoy visiting with their guests and we had many opportunities to do so, especially at breakfast. After a day to two, all the guests were conversing with each other and it was a great community vibe. The lobby area is newly decorated and it's simply beautiful...blues and whites that remind you of the sea, My favorite areas were the little area around the fireplace and the hall lined with books (featuring several collections by some of my favorite authors!) It was a 13 minute walk to Perkins Cove and 13 minutes to town in the other direction. Perfect location! In your room, you will find a beach umbrella to take to the beach with you. We truly enjoyed our stay at Rockmere and would recommend it!…
Gardens galore, fountains, the ocean ! We had a stunning view from both of the rooms we stayed in. ❤ Inside is decorated incredibly every space is fun and interesting. Hosts Bob and Andy are just lovely we loved your hospitality and considerations. We will definately return Namaste
We booked this stay last summer and got more nervous as we read the last couple of months of reviews before our visit approached. Given that it was too late to change plans, we gave it a shot and discovered those negative reviews are right on the money. I first need to mention the positive: This B&B has one thing going for it--it's location is absolutely magnificent. Right on the Marginal Way, plenty of ocean views, a quiet spot in between Ogunquit and Perkins Cove. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends. I agree with previous reviewers that the innkeeper (to be fair, we only interacted with one of them--Bob) is inhospitable and seems completely uninterested in making his guests feel at home. Any simple request we had, the answer was a flat "no"--not even with a half-hearted apology. And it's not as if we asked for anything over the top. A box of kleenex for the room? "No." Some jelly or jam for the English muffin at breakfast? "No." A little bottle of shampoo since our bathroom was apparently the only one without a dispenser? "No." Upkeep on the property is sorely lacking. In just our bedroom alone, two of the three windows had neither blinds nor shades, the pull-out sofabed had broken coils, the bathroom door didn't close, a piece of the portable air-conditioner came apart overnight, one of the dressers had a broken leg that had simply been shoved underneath to hold it up, there was an empty candy bag of garbage under the bed--not to mention the significant layer of dust on the many random pieces of "decor" scattered around the room. If you're not committed to cleaning, maybe get rid of some of the plastic plants and random vases that simply collect dust and grime. Some of the grounds are lovely, but there are random pieces of gardening equipment and tools just laying around, dirty furniture and a broken light in the gazebo, plastic chairs tossed upside down next to some bushes. Breakfasts were adequate, but it would have been nice to have been given a heads-up with even a little choice--perhaps "Would you like sausage or bacon?" or "Do you want cheese in your omelet?" Instead, you were given what they served, whether you liked it or not. And the environment was not at all conducive to voicing an objection. An earlier reviewer suggested that perhaps the inn may be sold soon, and honestly, that would be the best possible outcome. In the hands of someone who is really invested in the property and the guests, this place could potentially be brought back to life and finally have a reputation to match its location.…
Sadly, we have to agree with recent reviews about Rockmere. It obviously was once very well loved and cared for, but it seems like the owners just can't keep up anymore. Our room, which was described on the website as a "much sought after front corner room" was well located in the house, but one window had a broken blind and the other was completely missing. Seeing that gorgeous sunrise at 5:30 a.m. was not optional!! When we asked about the missing blind we were told that "guests are breaking blinds all the time, just pull the drapes!". The drapes were sheer and did nothing to block the sun or to offer much privacy. The bathroom was not clean, the shower curtain was moldy, the carpet was dirty, the in-room fridge hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Fortunately, the bed was clean and comfortable! We would have moved to another accommodation if we hadn't already paid $600 for two nights at Rockmere. Definitely give this place a miss!…
