After driving around the Acadia National Park and visiting Bar Harbor during the day, we went to Northeast Harbor and stayed in Kimball Terrace Inn. This stay took place in the first week of June 2019. The Inn itself was pretty quiet that evening (we saw 3 cars in the parking lot when we arrived in the evening). Again, check-in was surprisingly quick and efficient. After having a brief chat with the man in the reception desk, we went up to our room (# 371).

We didn't know what to expect when it came to the room's condition. We didn't have much time to prepare for the trip as we started and finalized our 22 days' trip 3 weeks prior to our departure. We spent hours each evening during this period struggled to decide which area we plan to visit. However, our effort completely paid off when we entered our room. We found our room as if it was a brand new room in a newly built Inn (although it was not a brand new structure). It was flawless, clean and we could even smell the new paint although it didn't bother both of us.

Judging from the condition in our room, we immediately could tell that this Inn was really well maintained (one of the best condition room in similar properties I have stayed since the past 35 years). Based on my chat with the guy from the reception desk that evening, I learned that this Inn only operated 5 months during the whole year (they were doing the maintenance works during their off peak season). I believe the owner must have spent/poured in a significant investment to put this property into a condition we stayed that time.

Everything in our room, and the bathroom area, appeared to be brand new. Both me and my wife kept wondering if we were lucky to get that room. We really enjoyed our room and our 2 nights' stay in this particular property. The Inn was extremely quiet during our stay (we really loved it). Not too far away from the back of this property, there was a lake where we could enjoy either a morning walk or afternoon stroll.

They also have a seating area behind the reception desk where we can sit and relax while enjoying the view. Breakfast in the morning was simple, they served coffee, tea and pastries (donuts/muffins) and again, they were good enough for us to fill up our stomach before doing our activities.

Overall, this is another gem in the area and I strongly recommend this beautiful Inn to everyone who is looking for a quality accommodation in their future trips in the area. For this reason, I give them a solid 4 stars' rating.

I normally stay at certain hotel chains because I know what to expect, so I was happily surprised how much our family really liked the hotel, the area, and the adjoining restaurant. We needed a break and wanted to enjoyed a summer weekend and we found that Kimball Terrace would accommodate our two dogs. When entered the room, they were so clean and sanitized that I quickly felt at ease during Covid. Our room was on the ground floor facing out into the harbor and our dogs got to meet some other furry friends. The rates were reasonable. The location was really good because we were close to Acadia and a short drive to other local sites. We would definitely like to go back.

We had a really hard time finding a hotel for a short stay in Acadia, and finally ended up at the Kimball Terrace Inn. I was a bit concerned, as the hotel looked very dated in pictures. Thankfully, our experience vastly surpassed our (admittedly low) expectations. The hotel is old and old fashioned. This is the first time in a long time that we got physical keys to our rooms! That said - the rooms and hotel in general were absolutely spotless and everything was in great shape. The only down side was that the hotel restaurant/restaurant next to the hotel only serves breakfast 8-10. If you want to eat before you drive to the popular trail heads this is too late - you won't find parking. We found that the little gas station in town serves freshly made breakfast sandwiches though, starting at 7!

We stayed three nights with our dog at Kimball Terrace Inn while visiting Acadia. Northeast Harbor was much less expensive to stay at than Bar Harbor and still very close to the park. Kimball Terrace was a very nice stay. We had a harbor view with room with an enclosed balcony with a lovely view of the harbor and sunsets. Our dog just loved resting out on the balcony in the evenings and didn't want to come inside the room at night. The room was very spacious and clean everything about our stay was very nice. I would definitely recommend this place for a visit to Acadia, especially with a dog.

Loved this place! My family of four plus parents were all very happy with the spot and plan to make it an annual tradition. The marina location was perfect in that it provided plenty of wide open spaces and fresh air for fishing, picnicking, and soccer on the lawn. The pool was clean and never crowded! The rooms were clean and appeared to have been freshly painted, which we appreciated. The lobby and 24/7 coffee were inviting, as were the friendly staff. Finally, it's proximity to downtown Northeast Harbor, a delicious restaurant, and Acadia National Park were just the right amount of convenience without forcing us to compromise on privacy and peace. Excellent value!

If you ask for a harbor view, make sure you’re not given what the manager calls a “harbor-facing room” but with a view of the restaurant roof. And if you are assigned a room with a restaurant roof view, don’t expect the inflexible manager to switch rooms with one of the many other harbor view rooms not yet given out to future reservations. What is a routine request in most motels for another room is an insurmountable problem for the inflexible manager of the Kimball Terrace Inn. All I can say is it was bad service. . . I was not a happy camper and will not stay there again.

We booked this day of, so we were grateful for that. It has plenty of parking, but we stayed on a Tuesday - the restaurant was closed both for dinner that night and breakfast the next morning. There were VERY limited options nearby for dinner, and NO options for breakfast. We literally scrounged through some snacks we had to make a "breakfast" before our hike. Like, they can't even sell some packaged store pastries from behind the desk? The room was spacious and clean, nothing fancy. The "harbor view" was not really. We could hear others moving around and watching tv in the rooms next to us. Convenient to Jordan Pond, Thuya and Asticou Gardens.

I wish I could rate the Kimball a 5 star for these reasons:
The premises and grounds are very well maintained.
The rooms are basic but all you need and very clean. Beds are comfortable.
The price is very reasonable.
The location is so convenient to Acadia and other parts of island. The inn sits right on a bay with great views.
There is a great restaurant right next door.
BUT…..I gotta get a good nights sleep and the walls are very thin. We stayed 4 nites and 2 were good but luck of the draw we had a wedding party next door one nite very loud drunks. Called desk several times and finally around 1:30 things went quiet. The next night a couple came in late and left early…I could hear their alarm go off.
So given that there are a lot of wonderful things about the Kimball but I would recommend ear plugs and white noise app.

Staff was five star all around. Very helpful and friendly. Walking into a hotel lobby after one day and being greeted by first name goes a long way in my book!
Location is on a quitter side of the island, far enough away from Bar Harbor to not feel the tourist trap vibe. Pretty good restaurant on the grounds, and nice view of the harbor in walking distance.
Small shopping area with a post office, a market, and a couple restaurants within walking distance.
Will definitely stay here again the next time we are in the area.

I recently had the misfortune of staying at the Kimball Terrace Inn, where I encountered the rudest hotel manager I have ever met. The hotel is just fine, you get what you pay for, however, I was extremely frustrated with the manager's rude and unprofessional behavior. I have never been treated so poorly by a hotel manager before. I would not recommend staying at the Kimball Terrace Inn to anyone, especially if you value customer service.

Answer from KTInn
Northeast Harbor, Maine
Our rooms are standard motel with either two full size beds or two queens, we do have some rooms with connecting doors. The property overlooks the Northeast Harbor Yacht Marina. You may want to check with one of the local chambers for a cottage that might have fire pits and kitchenette units. We would be happy to help you, but want you to have the amenities your looking for.
