We were in town for the night before my husband's surgery and found this gem of a BandB online. What a great find. We were greeted by Julie, a lovely host who was gracious and accommodating . The main house is spacious and inviting, decorated in warm yellows and a charming atmosphere . The seating arrangements arranged in cozy vignettes throughout the several common spaces on the main floor were so comfy and inviting. . Lots of space on the main floor to sit and gather , read, or relax with lovely views of the river and outdoor decks. Our room was totally immaculate .... like uber clean, as is the entire property. It is well appointed with lovely gifts like a tote and reusable water bottles. The bed was super comfy . I wish the TV was a littler larger for the size of the room.(.. hard to see from the bed,) but this might no be as important to all guests. I couldn't do the breakfast as i had to leave very early, but Julie was kind enough to leave me a breakfast to go. I will visit again for sure... probably during the season when the suite in the second building is available and we have more time to spend at this exceptional inn.

Dear Nina C, Thank you for your review and kind words regarding your recent stay at Newcastle Inn. Yes, the TVs are small in our guest rooms since we want our guests enjoying the beautiful views outside their windows! I hope that your husband is recovering well following his surgery and that you are able to be our guests at another time and will be able to enjoy our breakfast, perhaps in the summer when it is served outside on the deck! Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. Regards, Julie Bolthuis, Owner

Newcastle Inn didn't disappoint! We arrived to be greeted warmly by Julie, and we were given a tour to include a perfect little tavern, a stocked kitchenette with ice and other amenities. Our room was so clean and tidy, with crisp sheets and a beautiful bathroom. After dinner at Public House, we settled in by the fireplace and enjoyed the relaxation. Breakfast both mornings was sumptuous, coffee piping hot. Location near the twin villages was perfect for strolling and enjoying the mild winter day.

My wife and I just returned from a few days mid-week vacation to the Damariscotta River in Maine. We'd been looking for an excuse to visit the area after discovering the outrageously great oysters grown by seafood legend Barbara Sculley. The Newcastle Inn was a wonderful place to launch both our culinary and hiking adventures we'd hoped to conduct while celebrating my wife's birthday. Thanks to our host at the Inn, we accomplished both desires to our mutual satisfaction. Julie suggested we have dinner the first night at the King Eider's Pub, located just a short walk from the Inn, and it was a great start to our oyster filled trip. The next day she recommended a hike of the Dodge Point Preserve for views of the river, and convenient to Barbara Sculley's The Lobster Store, where we picked up some extra large and select oysters to shuck and slurp later. The next day, again following Julie's advice, we hiked the Laverna Preserve along the ocean, and it was a perfect day for it. We followed this up with a cruise down to the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse (also the name of the room we stayed in), and then a hike to see the Glidden Middens for the historical portion of the trip (watch the tides and the time of sunset!). Quite a day. I must admit that I am not normally a huge fan of the B&B experience, but the rooms and common areas were very comfortable, and the farm-to-table breakfasts were to die for. It was a treat. Julie made us feel comfortable and her advice enhanced our visit. We would highly recommend the Newcastle Inn.

We needed to spend the night near Damariscotta for a family matter and the Newcastle Inn was a perfect choice. We arrived late in the day on Nov. 12 in bitter cold; the area was blanketed with a fresh coating of snow and was very pretty the next morning. The inn was warm and appealing and Julie the innkeeper was friendly and welcoming. Nice public rooms, one with a gas fireplace. We stayed in the Monhegan Room, which had a view of the river, a king size bed, a gas fireplace in front of the bed, and a tub and shower. The handsome bed was a bit high off of the floor, and required a little effort to get up and onto, but it was comfortable and we were fine. The room was nicely decorated, pristine, and cozy. Breakfast was all locally sourced--eggs, bread, sausage--and cooked to order. We would enthusiastically return.
