My husband and I spontaneously came to Maine and ended up coming just before all the Memorial Day weekend crowd hit.
We know nothing about Maine.
We found a brochure for “Moose Tour in Millenoket” in our hotel on the coast in Bar Harbor.
Ok.. when you feel like destiny is at work , you are right.
The “NEOC” is beyond beautiful. It is true peace and serene nature, on an absolutely gorgeous, jewel blue lake with a stunning view of the mountains. I can’t believe we stumbled upon this nugget. The grounds are perfectly kept yet still tons of untouched nature.
We went mountain bike riding on their amazing trails that really challenged us (you can be a beginner also though and find awesome roads and trails too). We went on the moose tour (which honestly became secondary to me once I arrived). The guide was super cool nice guy who knows nature really well and showed us so much. We were lucky and saw a female moose even. Beaver huts. Just ... tons of stuff.
This would be a perfect family retreat center . Soooo much room. It’s insane. Totally totally worth your trip. Don’t be afraid to come off the beaten path. I wish we would have come here earlier in our trip .
Great staff.
I don’t know how they do it, but it is AMAYZING. I want to come back in the winter now.

Our daghter was married at NEOC on August 12th. The immediate families stayed at two of the lodge. The lodges were great and suited our needs very well. The beauty of the lake and Mount Katahdin in the background is unmatchable. With this being said, I write today to express how "unbelievably" happy all of us were with the staff at NEOC and at the River Driver's Restaurant. We have been fortunate to have traveled to many destinations across the country and I can say that we have never been treated any better than here. We had our wedding dinner at River Driver's Restaurant and Page was the best waitress and the food was absolutely delicious. I have never been around more nicer, courteous and helpful people. Having a wedding, there were many last minute little things that were needed. These folks jumped on all these needs and took care of them in short order and with perfection. What a perfect place for a wedding if you like great service and outdoor beauty at its best. Thanks again to all the great folks and NEOC that made this wonderful event even more wonderful.

I stayed here in late January when the snow was about a foot deep and the temperatures were in the single digits. The air was clear and crisp and the view from our cabin of the lake and Mt. Katahdin was simply spectacular!
The staff was incredibly friendly at check-in and during our entire stay. Our cabin was clean, modern, comfortable and fully furnished with everything we needed. Our cabin did not have a television in it (which was nice, in that it caused us to sit and engage in good 'ol time evening chit chat)! We were here for a snowmobiling weekend and the snowmobiles were just a 30 yard walk from our front door. When we returned from the end of a day outdoors, it was nice to retreat to a warm, airy and comfortable home. The lodge had a fireplace, hot coffee available all day long and a wonderful bar / restaurant (River Drivers Restaurant) with delicious appetizers, soups, sandwiches and full meals.
Note: for people who rely on cell phones; coverage was pretty good in Millinocket but drops off as you approach Twin Pines. There is WiFi throughout most cabins, but I found the signal strength to be weak to non-existent in our cabin (in Winter). I had no cell coverage from the cabin either (Verizon) and some of my ATT friends experienced the same. In order to check in with my wife and tell her the stories of all I saw while exploring the outdoors, I went to the lodge building where WiFi was very strong and where I was able to obtain VZW cell service as they have a Verizon Network Extender in the building.
Definitely recommend Twin Pine Camps and the New England Outdoor Center, Summer or Winter, for couples, families or groups of friends who want to get away and into a semi-remote area in the northern New England wilderness.

We attempted to check in at Twin Pines and New England Outdoor Center at 3PM, the standard check in time, and were warned that a check out time AFTER 10 AM would be billed at $50 per hour. When we arrived at our cabin we realized that it had not been cleane. The beds were disheveled and trash was bagged and left hanging on the door knob. A walk back to the front desk and we were told that the cabin was still nearly 2 hours from being cleaned and prepared. My youngest daughter is 7 months pregnant, so standing around waiting for staff to clean the cabin, change the beds, etc. was a bit much. If only I had known that this would be the highpoint of our stay. The cabin was unlike the photographs of the cabins on the property. This was NOT a newly built structure, but one from the 1960's. Most of the light switches were taped over, and while the enormous windows offered a panoramic view, there were no curtains or shades of any kind, and the constant traffic allowed passersby to look in on us. The owners two dogs were a nearly constant reminder that the cabin we were staying in was used often as a staff quarters, where the dogs were also welcome. The barking and scratching could only be stopped by luring them away with Bacon, or bringing them inside. As my eldest daughter is allergic, this was a less than idea solution. This was also evident by the dog hair that coated the heating registers. Initially I asked about the dogs, as there were signs posted suggesting ALL PETS BE LEASHED. I was told that they dogs were at our cabin because "The laundry is attached" (I guess the dogs were waiting for their delicates to finish?) I like dogs, so I just dropped it and thanked her.
The heat was another issue. The furnace provided ample heat, it was just not very well dispersed. One bathroom was 85 degrees, while the bedroom on the other side of the cabin was 60 degrees. I cannot imagine the carpets had been vacuumed anytime over the past month. At first we asked about the dogs, and were told it would be dealt with. By the beginning of the second day, I had to again complain about them. They were barking to come in and any movement inside was watched by the dogs (and the world) as there were no shades or curtains. Again we were assured this issue would be taken care of. As we were preparing to leave for my son's wedding on the second day (the reason we were there), we were approached by a woman staff member who proceeded to lecture us about complaining about the dogs. We were told the dogs were "Fixtures" and they belonged to the Staff and owners" and that we had to "realize they have been here a long time." For real? Two words for the folks at Twin Pines and New England Outdoor Center: Customer Service.
The staff were unfriendly, uncompromising, and did not seem concerned about the comfort of the guests... at least we 6. They had ample opportunity to address the issues during the two days we stayed there. They chose instead to send nasty staff person to yell at us for having the audacity to complain about the dogs. All this for only $430 +/- a night!
I would not return for a free stay.

Dear Dr. Bill. Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I did wish to let you know about some updates completed since your stay. The cabin you stayed in received a renovation this past year. It was/is the oldest cabin on the property and is still rustic in nature but updated. We are sincerely sorry that your stay here was anything less that you anticipated. At the time, or just after your stay here once the issues were brought to managements attention, we issued a refund for one night and had extended an offer to your daughter to come back and stay with us in one of our newer cabins, that offer still stands. Regarding your interactions with staff, we have also completed additional customer service training and have had some changes in staffing since your visit, to ensure that issues like these do not occur again. Please contact me directly if there is anything I can assist you with at marketing@neoc.com. Thank you. Matt and The Crew at NEOC.

Twin Pines Camp is one of the locations of the New England Outdoor Center. It is located on Millinocket Lake about half way between the town of Millinocket and Baxter State Park entrance. There are a variety of cabins available from simple to the almost luxurious new Coveside Guests Houses were we stayed. All arrangements were easily made and staff was friendly. Pets are welcome at Twin Pines. All units are self catering, and kitchens well equipped. Closest dinning is a seasonal restaurant just up the road at Big Moose Campground which we didn't try. Millinocket has IGA and Hannaford's grocery stores.

We are here on our last night at Twin Pines Camps, a part of the New England Outdoor Center. Our vacation, with children ages 12, 11, 9 and 7 and been like a dream.
On our first night, we opted for an overnight campout, hosted Matt Polstein, owner of the camp. Matt took us by boat to Sandy Stream, a sandy island in the middle of Millinocket Lake. There, he had canoes, kayaks, and boats set up for us to use and explore. He also brought his two sons, who fished with our kids, and showed them the best rocks in the lake for jumping.
While my husband and I swam and paddled, Matt prepared a feast of steak, lobster, local corn, potatoes, and Maine micro-brews. For dessert, we had Ooey-Gooey. I won't share that secret! You'll need to come try it for yourself!
After we sat by the fire for a spell, we retired to our tents, which Matt had also set up. I was almost too full to sleep!
We spend the rest of our days here relaxing at the camp, hiking in Baxter State Park, fishing, and White water rafting. We had a ball. Truly memorable in so many ways!!
There are two different options for the camps. You can stay in the "old school" cabins, which will remind you of the cabins of long ago, or you can stay (as we did) in the brand new, LEED certified, environmentally exemplary Coveside Cabins. Our kitchen was equipped and modern, and the Hannaford grocery store in town was as well stocked as the Whole Foods or Trader Joe's in my hometown. No lie!
If you like to eat out, there is a highly regarded, rustic, friendly restaurant on the camp called River Drivers.
There is a glorious view of Mt. Katadhin here. We spend our evenings swimming off of the docks, watching the sun set over Baxter State Park.
A word about the customer service: wonderful. Everyone here was so friendly. The pastry chef even made me two pie crusts so that I could make pies from the berries that we picked on our hikes. The kitchen lent us pots to steam our lobsters.
Matt Polstein, our host, was so laid back, knowledgeable and friendly. You can tell that he really sets the tone here - because the employees were all that way too!
I hesitate to publish this review, out of fear that the camp might become too popular for our return next summer - but we plan on coming back again and again to this special place.
Forget Bar Harbor...this is the Maine that you always wanted to visit!
Thanks Matt!!! We'll be back!!!

The staff and owner are friendly and very helpful. Cozy and comfy cabins right on Millinocket Lake with views of Mount Katahdin. River Drivers is a great restaurant on site with a good selection and delicious food. I also had a massage from their LMT Holly which was mind-melting.

Beautiful location, the cabins were everything we expected. Perfect views and all the amenities you would need for a weekend.
We were told the location was pet friendly so we brought our two dogs and one cat with us. The first morning while walking to the front lodge for coffee and some hiking maps we encountered the two dogs that belong to an employee and live on the property. There are strict leash laws for visiting pets, so our dog (a lab) was on a leash, however, the two resident dogs (also labs) ran up unleashed. One of the dogs growled and actually lunged after our dog, teeth out, startling our dog and causing a scene. Thankfully we were able to separate the dogs and scare the resident dogs off, however, you can imagine this was a frightening experience, for both us and our dog. We made it to the lodge and explained to one employee that the dogs had gone after our dog, and she ignored us. Thankfully, one female employee came out of the lodge shortly after and said she heard the commotion and apologized for the aggressive resident dogs.
So overall, great location, good experience. However, BE WARNED IF YOU ARE BRINGING PETS! WATCH OUT FOR THE RESIDENT DOGS, THEY ARE NOT FRIENDLY!

I am sorry that you had that experience while staying here. Since this incident, we have made a more vigilant effort since last fall to ensure that the dogs in question are with someone when they are on the property and have for the most part kept them off property. I did talk to the staff in question also, the staff member that ignored you was a wait staff member in the restaurant who was in the middle of serving a 12-top their breakfast, she sought out another staff member immediately to address the issue as she had not been able to assist you herself. She apologizes to you also, for not having been able to address your concerns immediately, she is a dog lover also. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at marketing@neoc.com if there is anything I can address for you. Thank you. Matt and The Crew at NEOC

Recently took a trip up to Twin Pines for a snowmobiling trip with some friends. We rented a cabin, which was very clean and comfortable. Plenty of space, awesome kitchen with everything you could need. The staff was super friendly, and everything was very low-key and easy.
We also rented snowmobiles which worked great, and again the staff was very accomodating, giving us a generous refund (without us even having to ask) when our trip was slightly cut short due to bad weather.
Just really a great stay, would definitely go back and recommend the place to anyone.

Hey There. No we do not have laundry facilities for guests onsite - with the exception of one cabin "lookout" which does. There are laundry facilities in Millinocket that are open from 6am to 7pm
No gym onsite - most people take advantage of the outdoors - hiking, trail running, canoeing or kayaking, etc. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you
