The Big Moose inn, with its unique chairm has a rare blend of friendly service and lovely surroundings that offer several lodging styles to accommodate the needs of all of our guests. We offer Inn Rooms and Suites, as well as private cabins and three campgrounds. We also have a bar and grille, roof top seating, fine dining restaurant, and two rafting companies. We are located in the perfect spot: 8 miles from Baxter State Park, in between lake Ambajejus and Millinocket lake. We are within walking distance from a beach with a beautiful sunset. We also have canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards for rent. We look forward to hearing from you!

Detailed Reviews
The people at front desk at the bar were very helpful and friendly. Since it was a slow time, they upgraded our party to two campsites when we checked in. Renting Kayaks was cheap and a great activity with an amazing view of Katahdin. As for the camping experience, the sites were pretty typical and we didn't get bothered by any staff. We were just able to mind our business. The campsites are up the dirt road right before the Inn if you're coming from the south. The bathrooms are very nice, it says all water is drinkable, and has a big outdoor sink for dishes etc. I wasn't able to get any hot water during the shower but you might need to keep a sink running while you shower to get some. If you are looking at the campsite maps online, you should know that there are two and they should be placed side by side and line up Baxter Park Rd so it connects between the two maps.

We spent 3 nights here. It's an excellent place to stay when you're planning to visit Baxter State Park. Big Moose Inn has helpful, friendly staff. They have an early (5 AM) continental breakfast (included in room fee) which is helpful if you plan to get an early start climbing Katahdin as a day hike. The rooms were nice, clean, and tidy.
The restaurant was excellent, live music was a plus and everyone was very friendly.

Pleasantly surprised by this Inn. We stayed 3 nights in one of the suites which was clean and comfortable with the friendliest staff we have encountered in a long while. The owner made us breakfast each morning and gave us lots of information on Baxter State Park and the history of the Inn. She will also pack you a breakfast if you plan to leave before 5:30am. We had a delicious dinner at the restaurant one night and drinks and apps at the bar another night. The Inn is located directly on Lake Millinocket, very beautiful! We went with the intention of seeing moose and although we were unable to book a tour with the Inn we did hookup with one next door at NEOC and saw 3 moose! Also a handy dandy store right next door that also makes sandwiches and such, very close to the entrance to Baxter, we would highly recommend staying at Big Moose Inn!

This review is disappointing with booking a reservation! I was given a price initially and then given a different price when finalizing our reservation. Because the price was not clear on the website that a additional fee is charged for having more than 2 people in a 4 occupancy room. I asked if they would honor their first quote, they simply said, no they wouldn't. We were really hoping to stay with them, it would have been our first time and potential to return. Poor customer service, unfortunately.

This is a big place, with the inn and approximately a dozen cabins (of all sizes)....plus lots of tent sites. It’s really close to Baxter State Park, which is why we chose it. We booked an inn suite but were upgraded to a cabin when we arrived. We got “Antique Cabin”, right next to the inn. It was great. Nice beds, shower, kitchen, etc. Heat pump worked great when it got chilly in the evening. The cabin was clean and had a nice screened-in porch. No TV (just DVDs). But who cares, when you’re in the great Maine woods? We hung out in the inn lobby for a bit, playing checkers, playing the piano, etc. The property is beautiful, with a great beach, volleyball place, etc. we asked for a breakfast to be made up for us, as we were leaving at 6:30 to get into the park. I expected the typical little bag of a muffin, apple and granola bar. Instead, at 7:00 pm, they dropped off a huge basket with everything you could ask for....including milk and orange juice in little glass bottles. Impressive! (Plus they provided a packet of coffee to brew up in the coffee pot). We paid quite a bit for our one night (about $200). But we got good value. An awesome general store is fifty feet away from the inn. We didn’t eat in the restaurant, but it looks great with a good menu). I think that this is the place to stay if going into Baxter, and we’ll return. (Oh, and it also offers boat tours, kayak rentals, etc).

We stayed two nights. This is about as close as you can get to Baxter State Park without camping out. The location is great for accessing the Park, trails or whitewater rafting. We stayed in Suite 1, upstairs, above the lobby and restaurant. The place has a great "cabin feel" with plenty of common space and several locations to eat off a shared menu - main dinning room, porch, screened porch. There is also a nice bar on site, as well as another new bar and restaurant just across the driveway. Breakfast was provided and the dinner menu was great for hungry hikers.

We viewed the property for a potential stay. If you want all the amenities of a city hotel, you will need to look elsewhere. The cabins are comfortable and clean although all do not offer indoor plumbing. The B & B rooms inside the Lodge are small, but decorated to reflect a "turn of the century" feel. Some rooms have fans while others have window air conditioners. Rooms include breakfast and all accommodations are priced per person. There is music in the small bar on the weekends and during the week during busy season. The food is good. There is a lot to do both on the premises and in the area for the outdoorsy traveler. The owner is always working alongside the staff. You will get a REAL Maine experience here!

We stayed 2 nights while we did rafting on the Penobscot River. As our plans fell apart Lori fixed us up with another outfitter and she saved our trip. Her restaurant and bar makes fabulous food ( Thanksgiving quesadilla, burgers and fries) but it's very understaffed this year so be prepared to wait 60 to 90 minutes for your food. Staying at the lodge includes an early cooked to order breakfast and coffee available 24/7. No cell service and wifi only in lobby. Beautiful view of the lake. We loved our stay.

We stayed two nights just before the summer season commenced
and enjoyed the experience.
The proximity to the park was very convenient.
The staff is friendly and welcoming with a laid back approach. Wonderful teamwork, all hands on deck to accommodate the guests.
We stayed in the Lodge which is just one of the many lodging options. The rooms are fairly small but comfortable with a small refrigerator and a Keurig down the hall. Each room is different, kind of quirky but charming and impeccably clean.
Our bed was comfortable but squeaked loudly every time we turned. We felt badly for other quests because sound carried easily from room to room.
The food was good, pub food type fare. Service was a little erratic but everyone did the best they could with the staffing that was available. The Thanksgiving Dinner Poutine was pure comfort food!
The guests were all ages with varying wilderness interests and experience which made it enjoyable to hear their stories. Seemed to be a popular place for locals to dine.
Overall a very positive experience and we look forward to a return visit.

I run an outdoor program for a summer camp in Maine and booked two campsites from Big Moose Inn.. $388.00 for two sites for 1 night. The sites are all hard gravel and then to top it off you had to pay for the showers! Coin operated showers with cold water and one of which didn't even work . I would think for $190 per site you'd get a shower as part of the facility. As well as charging $7 for a bundle of firewood which is quite steep it was terrible quality wood.

Hi Parking is right at the cabin.
They are full service so if you die from Covid, your family can host a not socially distanced funeral here for you! They would not hesitate to make even more money from your suffering.
You should call Big Moose Inn directly to get the answer to this question. I think it will depend on whether you are staying in the Inn or one of the Cabins. They may have a different spot for you to connect 240 volt (level 2) I am not sure. The small cabin we stayed at had electricity and you could have plugged into the wall connector. 1-207-723-8391 is the Direct Phone Number
Our fine dining restaurant, Fredericka's, is open for dinner at five, Wednesday through Saturday. Our bar and grille, The Loose Moose, is also open for dinner at five, seven days a week.
Hello, we have two campgrounds, the lower campground is close to the Inn, Bar, and Lakes, and is mainly for RVs with a few tent sites, and lean to's. The upper campground is more privet with many shady sites and lots of elbow room.
"Parking is a bit wild. Drive around and park however you can, try not to block others in. Bring your own personal items if using outdoors"Read full review
