My family and I were back in the Machias Area, town seemed to be very busy for our dates. We have stayed at the machias river inn before and had an OK experience, mind you this was 2 years ago. I hadn’t found the office manager to not be very friendly and wasn’t concerned with our experience our first go around so looked else where before having to book the River Inn..but I am so glad that I did! Management changed in late October with a young man who’s friendly and ready for change. The owner checked our room prior to us checking in and the housekeeping crew was able to get us extra towels and a bag of ice. The rooms are under renovation and we were blessed to be able to stay in one of them. The rooms are truly something out of a magazine with the picturesque river view right from your room. Change can sometimes be scary but change is exactly what this place needed and we will be back for-sure! Thank you everyone at the Machias River Inn..keep looking forward you’re doing great!

My wife and I travel up and down the east coast for pleasure, we just so happened to stumble upon a Facebook post advertising the Machias River Inn so we booked a room and made the trip..and it was worth it!

We were greeted by a young man who happens to be the manager and was able to put us in a renovated room with a gorgeous view of the river. My wife went up stairs to drop off our bags while I spoke with the manager about the area and the property. He was helpful and friendly and went above and beyond what he needed to do for us when it came to connecting our devices to wifi as he even updated our computer for us.

The rooms were spotless and you could smell how clean the rooms were. Every aspect of the room was incredible as we took in the beauty of our view. Our room was a stones throw away from Helens restaurant where we had dinner AND dessert. We will be back and we can not wait to do so! Thank you Machias River Inn for a great stay and good luck this summer.

Machias wasn't on our list of places to stop, but an unfortunate auto incident landed us in Machias 4th of July weekend. With everything basically sold out - the owners of Margarett Inn and Machias River Inn helped us in a bind and made sure we had a roof over our heads. The friendliness stood out the most, but what we were most surprised by was the room itself. The modest exterior didn't prepare us for the newly renovated spacious, immaculate motel room - not to mention a beautiful river view. The tiny touches down to the complimentary coffee holders were appreciated. They've also got a fire pit area to relax and star gaze along the river at night. And lastly... the restaurant adjacent to the Inn is actually noted / ranked as having the #1 Blueberry Pie in all of Maine. We would also be amiss if we didn't call out the amazing Pizza at Pats, the tasty treats at the bluebird ranch down down the street and the AMAZING Fries at the Rivers Edge Drive in. All walking distance given our car was being fixed. The personal family touch is evident and appreciated.

I text the motel to let them know we would arrive around 6 pm. Response back said perfect. We checked in got the key and went to the room. It smelt musty but we unpacked and opened some windows. I went into the bathroom and there was poop around the inside of the toilet. My friend opened the pullout couch and the sheets were covered in sand and there was a dirty baggie. I called the office and she apologized and moved us to a new room. We packed up loaded our car and drove across the parking lot. That was a very nice room but when you looked at the microwave, stove and dishwasher it looked like they where wiped down with a dirty rag.The inside of the microwave was all spattered. Cob webs in the corners of the windows. The next day we had to pack the car again because this room was rented. We had to keep everything in our car until housekeeping cleaned our original room. I checked in with the front desk to return the key and get our key back for our original room. I reminded her to make sure they check the bathroom. We were told, I wish they had never put you in that room. It said cleaned on the computer but never got cleaned!! In these times with the virus it really makes me wonder how well these rooms are being cleaned and disinfected. Makes me wonder how well the original room was cleaned when you find a few black hairs in the shower and a couple of pieces of dog food on the floor. When I called to make reservations I asked for a room that had 3 beds. She said the room has 2 double beds, and a pull out couch. Well forget trying to sleep on the pullout couch. The mattress is paper thin and the springs were to painful to sleep on.I was told when we checked out the manager would contact me. It's been 4 days and no contact.

What could have been an enjoyable stay turned into a fiasco. Musty, uncleaned room. Dog hair on bedding, floor and couch. Dirty sofa bed and dirty toilet. Messaged staff to let them know what time we would be there. We arrived around 7pm tired and wanting to rest, not inspect our room for cleanliness. Put in a complaint.Grabbed our belongings and changed to another room with one bed, couch and a recliner. We originally requested a room that would accommodate 3 adults and that is not what we got. We did receive 2 double beds and a horrible pull out couch not meant for sleeping. Come to find out our room was not cleaned but was put in their computer system as cleaned. So unhappy. Will never stay there again.

The newly renovated River Inn is easily the best place to stay in the Machias area. The rooms are elegantly appointed, brand new on the interior. The location is quite convenient facing the Machias River, situated on Highway 1 that runs from Canada to Key West, Florida.

The best restaurant in town is Helen’s, one of Maine’s best hidden gem eateries, and it’s literally in the parking lot of the hotel! So don’t miss their fried clams, fried scallops, and onion rings! You’re also close to another hidden gem in Jasper Beach, a quiet rocky cove.

We weren’t fond of the balcony behind our room that runs the entire length of the hotel and functions as a walkway, rather than being private for each room. But thankfully, it wasn’t an issue as very few people passed by. The owners did the best with the old motel they renovated.

Our room was gross. The sink had toothpaste splatter on the faucet and handles and toothpaste in the sink. There was hair in the shower, a huge cobweb above the sliding glass door and dust on all of the baseboards and doors. We cleaned the bathroom ourselves and stayed because it was late and we didn't have anywhere else to go with trail access, but definitely would not recommend or stay there again. The view was really great but our room (#10) had picnic tables, a grill, trash can and ashtray right outside of it so we always had people right in front of our room which made it hard to enjoy the view and felt like we had no privacy unless the curtain was closed.

Stayed in late Oct after the foliage rush, for which they were frequently booked, ours was a quieter time there. This is a modest family-owned place set back a bit from Route 1 which is a very busy road but not noisy in the room bec of the layout. Short-staffed like so many other businesses right now but had someone responsive whenever needed. Friendly and helpful staff. Requested a renovated room as recommended here & very happy with our first floor room and the gorgeous view of the tidal river. Appreciated the plastic chairs outside our room facing the river, a table would be nice. Easy access to local amenities (can very easily walk to an especially pretty part of the Sunrise Trail and several food options; very short drive to the many town resources & attractions such as Bad Little Falls, and reasonable drives to others like Cutler Coast's hiking trails & the Bold Coast Scenic Byway for biking or driving). Definitely would stay here again.

Recently had a two night stay at this quaint little hotel in Machias. The rooms were cozy, recently renovated, the beds/pillows were extremely comfortable, and the views on our 2nd floor deck of the Machias River was extremely relaxing and beautiful. All of the staff we interacted with were friendly and attentive to whatever needs we had. A plus, Helen's Restaurant on the grounds was delicious! Try their award winning blueberry pie!

We stayed in the River View Suite. Why not 5 stars?
Most important to us is clean, comfortable and quiet. Can’t say our stay was quiet. You can hear every footstep from the room above. Activity was normal so felt it would not be appropriate to complain but we had to turn the TV up louder to drown it out and it effected sleeping. If you just wanted quite to relax or read it could be an issue.

The good:
• Very large room
• View of the river. Two Bald Eagles were perched in the trees across everyday and seals in the river
• Clean
• Comfortable
• Kitchen with pots, pans, dishes, glasses, silverware, cooking utensils
• Stove & Refrigerator
• Microwave
• Keurig with provide K-cups and creamer
• Smart TV with plenty of channels and access to Pay TV channels if you have subscriptions
• Sink and mirror are separate from the bathroom
• Plenty of outlets for chargers
• Wi-Fi was good
• Front desk associates were kind and helpful
• Outside table and 2 chairs

The bad:
• No freezer section in the refrigerator for ice packs
• Ice machine is small and way undersized for the number of guests, two times it was empty in the morning.

Thank you for your review Tom, we appreciate any and all feedback from our guests! The room above you is our two bedroom apartment which is one of our next rooms we plan to renovate and one of the issues we are going to address is creating a sound barrier between the rooms so you do not hear every footstep. I am happy you enjoyed your time here and hope to have you back! I would highly recommend one of our newly renovated rooms!
