Such a wonderful, friendly, family oriented hidden gem on the lake!!! As a female who has camped at numerous campgrounds state run and privately owned, you will NEVER find a place with cleaner bathrooms than the Birches! The owners and staff go out of their way to help you... I cannot forget to mention their docks! We recently docked our boat at another place on the lake.. huge mistake! The Birches is where you and your boat need to be! I am a diva so this speaks volumes!

The campground is family friendly, clean organized and the staff is incredibly helpful. The campground is a little crowded, but sites are large enough, and neighbors are all friendly. There's always some activities planned by the staff.

My wife and I booked our stay from June 28th to July 6th of 2021. This is a secluded campground about a mile down a dirt road on a beautiful clear water lake. When you arrive at the office/store/grill you notice a well stocked store and grill that offers a lot of food choices. The folks were friendly and directed us to our site, R18B. I thought this was a mistake because the online map just showed R18. Someone decided to cut R18 in half along with two other sites behind us, T08 which has a T08B and T09 which has T09B now. Our camper was 10 to 15' away from four other campers. When you stood outside you could hear your neighbors moving around inside their campers. I had to park my truck so my door would open on one side of the camper A frame or the other so I was off the road. I found myself apologizing to my neighbors several times feeling that I invaded their privacy. I couldn't figure out how you or your neighbor could have a campfire safely. As you went to walk around your camper be careful of the 2" waterline ran on top of the ground, its quite a trip hazard. Our AT&T phone service worked for cell and text only by the water and the internet not at all. So they offer access to internet for a fee from an outside provider. It would have cost us $26 for the week but we had so much trouble signing up for it, Phil waved the fee which I appreciated. Phil and April do a great job of managing this place. I saw Phil making his rounds on a golf cart in pouring rain and 57 degree temperature a few times. We were here through the 4th of July weekend. There was loudspeaker info for things to do for kids. They organized a parade with veterans leading the way, kids followed on decorated bikes and some folks built a couple floats. Later there was a band in the lodge and that evening they had fireworks from a barge in the water. It was awesome. Our first two days it was very hot. There's a beautiful beach were the kids were swimming all day long. To me, the way the campers are crammed in ruins this place. This campground is really for the seasonal folks. They have normal size campsites were you could actually have a visitor park at your campsite and a camp fire. We left a day early and we wont be back. It was a very uncomfortable stay...

We greatly appreciate your comments and feedback about or beautiful spot on this magnificent lake. We all work very had to provide great customer service. Our grill and store are a huge success and such and added bonus to the costumer experience. Our maintenance staff does their best rain or shine to keep up on the daily needs with trash pickup etc. Our wifi system is only two years old and has been a huge success unfortunately there are the rare occasions when someone has difficulty connecting their device , I am glad Phil was able to help you with that issue. July 4th actives have become a tradition with our kids and veterans and seems to get larger every year which is enjoyed by many. I agree the Fireworks were spectacular this year! In regards to size of the campsite you were on, here lies the dilemma, as units get bigger and bigger and since many of our campers are local families so they tend to bring more than a vehicle, do we limit the number of vehicles people are allowed to bring to help prevent some of the congestion, do we remove some sites to make others more spacious and then have to tell returning customers I am sorry that site is no longer available. Do we turn one the sites in the tight area to allow parking for vehicles. We are a boating community and most come stay with us for the lake and spend very little time at their sites so the size is not mentioned. But we want everyone to have comfortable stay on whatever site they are on, so as we look to the future we are looking at our options, we will make improvements where we can for the 2022 season. Our plan is as sites become available we will make others larger and continue to make the yearly improvements as best we can. Thank you for coming and Happy Camping!

What once was an absolute gem on a pristine lake, has been very successfully turned into a cash cow seasonal trailer park. Given time and age it will grow old and probably be sold. Campground it is not, with all the stuff people have brought up to their seasonal paradise.

You are absolutely correct , this a gem on a pristine lake Cobboseecontee , this campground is considered home to some during the summer months and a haven and their yearly retreat to others. This campground has been around for nearly a 100 years and it has grown with an expansion in the past few years but other than that the foot print has stayed pretty much the same. What hasn’t stayed the same is the size of the campers, years ago the average camper was 16 ft now the average camper is 35 feet , trying to change with the industry can be difficult when those don’t want to move site making some areas look cramped. It would be a shame if a corporation bought this place, it would be turned into cash cow like some of the other area campgrounds, for now this campground is what it is , it is not for everyone but most enjoy the beautiful lake, friendly atmosphere , activities and amenities if its not for you that is fine happy campging elsewhere.

Every year several of us women gather together. We are a “tribe” of survivors and perseverers that grow stronger when we are together. Birches Lakeside Campground is the perfect place to do just that. Fun in the sun and laughter galore. Staff and management make it easy to relax and enjoy all that this campground has to offer. We will be back again and again.

We really enjoyed our stay at this campground. We had a tent site that was really nice - flat and level. There were several walking paths and some nice areas with docks at the lake. The staff were friendly. The prices are reasonable. The other campers were friendly. Family atmosphere - no loud, wild party types. We really had a good time here.

There appears to be a misunderstanding, Your original reservation was made from Sept 8th to the 10th on a premium waterfront site which is not PA discounted site but the discount was honored by us only charging you $50 plus tax for both nights falling within our discount of stay one night get one free , 2 night maximum. Then we were called to move the reservation from two nights to one night of Sept 7th which is why you were still charged the $50 plus tax . Our PA discount is set for stay one night get one free, not half off of one night, but after looking at the ad on the PA website I can see how you would think the discount was not honored based on the how they have it posted "members pay " section of the page. I will reach out to PA and have them fix the error , in the mean time we will credit your card the $25 plus tax. I wish this had been brought to my attention while you were here and not this after your stay. Safe travels and happy camping.

First the good news: great location, a number of services available i.e. store, cafe restaurant, boat, kayak, beach for swimming etc. Number of options available, cabins, RV lots.
The Bad: cabin we were in(#7) smelled badly the whole time we were using it. Seemed to be coming from the bathroom.
The Ugly: They have an insane, vigorously enforced 5mph speed limit on camp grounds. I was going between 5-8mph one night and someone complained to the owner Phil who promptly pulled me over in his golf cart and told me to slow down! I was going 8mph! When we arrived from dinner one night at 9:30pm we were confronted by no one at the gate to let us in. We had to call Phil on the phone who gave us a code to enter. Why not give customers the code when they check in? Our group rented one of their pontoon boats for the day. The next morning Owner Phil came to our sites and stated that we had damaged a brand new prop on the motor what we were going to do about it. We have several members in our group who have been long time boat owners and operators, plus we had one member who piloted all three times we took the boat out. When we looked at the damage it was obvious that something had hit the prop hard. We did not damage that prop but were forced to pay for a new one even though owner could not confirm that they had checked prop after putting boat in the water and before we took over. Shakedown.
We have been staying here for 3 years, renting 3 cabins every year plus spending money in their store and boat rentals. We definitely feel we were targeted as we were from Massachusetts and were a large group(12)
we will not be back and do not encourage others to stay here

Appreciation, Can’t fix it if we don’t know it’s broken, Rules for a reason, the other side of the story We appreciate the acknowledgement of all the amenities we have to offer on this beautiful Lake Cobboseecontee but you missed a few such as Marina with multiple floating docks with easy access in and out of the lake, kids activities, playground, laundry and golf cart rentals. As far as the “smell” not really sure what it could have been, the current guest is not having any issues but she is by herself so maybe less bathroom use is the reason she is not smelling anything fowl not sure but since this issue was not brought to our attention while you were here it is difficult to address it now. It would have been appreciated if you or one of the other 11 men staying with us would have mentioned it while you were here. “The Speed limit is “5 mph which is the number between 4 and 6”, if it can’t be followed then parking is available on the other side of the gate as announced daily and posted everywhere. We have NUMEROUS children in our campground, walking with their siblings or with mom and dad or with Grammy and Grammpy and with their dogs. Their safety comes first and that is not up for debate. As far as the gate as those who checked in were told upon arrival, “we were hit by lightning which caused a surge and took out our gate system and we were waiting for parts to arrive and if you noticed the gate in operation during your stay to stop in and get a gate card”. Gate codes are not randomly handed out as what would be the point of have a gate. The gate was fixed on Friday of your stay and an announcement was made that if you did not have a gate card please stop by the office and get one. I am sorry if you didn’t hear the announcement and if calling from your vehicle while at the gate to be let was an inconvenience but unfortunately with today’s technology not all goes as planned and we all have to be tolerant of the occasional snafu. The boat was put in the water the day before you arrived with a brand new prop and your group was the first ones to use it. The picture speaks for itself, wish I could post it here. No shakedown took place, we brought the damage to your attention, showed you the receipt of the cost to replace the prop, you and a couple others voiced your opinion “ part of which was it wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be” we had a discussion , then I was given permission to charged your card which did only charge for the cost of the prop only , we didn’t’ charge labor to replace it. If there had been a “shakedown” as you state we would have added to the cost of the prop and labor. The years of patronage have been appreciated and I can assure you that your group was not “targeted”, that comment is beyond ridiculous and unfounded. We have numerous guests from Massachusetts and many other states and all are welcome. As you stated in one of our conversations we had while you were here, “you and your spouse seem to enjoy what you are doing, and being a business owner yourself you appreciated it”. You are correct in that observation, We do love what we do, the good the bad and the ugly. Best of luck to you and your friends and Happy Camping

Thank you Michelle for the positive comment about the property you are correct it is a beautiful spot. As far as the comment about Phil and I , it is our job to be sure everyone who comes here enjoys themselves and sometimes that means enforcing the rules of quiet time and visitors coming in after hours. We have no issues with families staying up by the fire until 2 am if they choose as long as they do not disturb other guests. When large groups gather voices tend to get louder and louder so it is our job to make people aware of it. Sometimes for the betterment of the entire campground we have to make the difficult decision not to allow some individuals, families or groups to come back. But if you think not allowing some to return is "bad business" that is your opinion. Fortunately that has only happened a few times and even some of those have gotten a second chance and there have no issues since. Thankfully over the past several years our reservations have increased dramatically with many many repeat customers, some of which had stopped coming here because of the "party atmosphere" and now have returned because of all the positive comments they have heard. We have many many wonderful families that come and stay with us and we appreciate every one of them.
