Clear Lake Shores, Texas104 contributions2 helpful votes
My husband and I celebrated his 70th birthday in early June at this lovely, luxurious inn set in beautiful gardens overlooking the shore of the Atlantic. Classical musical playing quietly in the public rooms creates a lovely tone of serenity, and fresh flowers from the garden throughout all rooms of the inn as well as wonderful art add to guests’ pleasure. MJ and Matt along with Mary and Alissa could not have been more gracious; they have thought of everything to make one’s stay perfect, and I do mean everything. They offered a number of helpful suggestions for exploring the area and lent us a guide books for Acadia and local art galleries and museums. Breakfast each morning in the dining room or in the porch was a scrumptious three course meal, beginning with delicious house made pastries (fruit scones, tarts, sweet rolls, followed by a seasonal fruit plate and ending with a yogurt parfait (divine local yogurt), a smoked salmon plate, or a chef’s special (Matt’s fluffy blueberry pancakes with local maple syrup and his omelettes were decadent. I must also remark on the pretty plating of food. Fresh baked cookies are offered each afternoon in the main building and a delicious savory snack mix and nuts are available in the honor bar, which is stocked with high end liquors, wines, and liqueurs. The property is extremely well maintained and clean. We stayed in the Richard Russo Cottage (Autographed copies of his books are on the shelf.) and enjoyed the fireplace in the sitting area as well as the private porch. The wet bar in the cottage had a plentiful supply of Steeped Coffees (a must try), teas, and hot chocolate. All was perfect from the comfortable bed to the linens to the toiletries. Don’t miss the solarium and the library with the fireplace in the main building. We enjoyed games of Scrabble in the library by the fire one rainy morning before striking out for the transportation museum. I had requested a cheese plate, chocolate covered strawberries, and a bottle of wine as an arrival surprise for my husband. Lovely and delicious. If one is looking for a luxurious, pampered experience without stuffiness in a friendly serene setting, The Inn at Sunrise Point cannot be topped. We are already planning our next visit.

Property's Favorite Review
We stayed at this beautiful inn for three nights and truly couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Our cottage was very clean, comfortable and roomy enough for two. As other reviewers have commented, the breakfasts were delicious no matter which selection we made. I particularly enjoyed the scones and fruit each day. The owners and innkeeper are talented and professional, yet still warm and welcoming. The icing on the cake was Mr. Quincy, pupper on staff. We enjoyed our daily visits with him very much. We would love to make a return trip to this one of a kind Maine retreat.

MJ and Matt are phenomenal Inn Keepers! Everything was impeccably clean and felt comfortable but was top-notch. They are very personally involved in everything. And those they choose to have on staff are fantastic, too, especially Mary and Quincey! We can't say enough about them - they made the experience amazing! Oh, and the bed was comfy too: Richard Russo Cottage is the way to go. Breakfast was big and delicious. And the location is convenient but really stunning right on the water. We wish all the success in the world to Matt and MJ. Can't wait to go back!

Let me start by saying that the owners (Matt and MJ) have done an extraordinary job. This lovely Inn succeeded our expectations in every conceivable way. It was our first time at the Inn and from the moment we arrived we knew that our visit was going to be one we would never forget. Our cottage was perfect...the bed, the bathroom, fireplace and the VIEW. The breakfast is phenomenal. As soon as you sit down you're served freshly baked pastries (homemade that morning) followed by beautiful plate of fresh fruit. You then choose a main entree which varies daily. When they say breakfast included, this place takes it to a whole new level of perfection. The property is magnificent and I guarantee that once you visit this Inn you will not want to leave. Matt and MJ are to be commended....they are the quintessential hosts.

We had an amazing time at the inn! We were there for our honeymoon and it was exactly what we wanted. The property is so beautiful and Matt, MJ, and Mary were so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The breakfast was unreal and it was so nice to get to sit on the porch, look at the water, and enjoy it. We also loved the room that they have with a fireplace, bar, and games, and enjoyed playing chess in there before dinner each night. MJ and Mary were also super helpful with advice on things to do in the area and restaurants to go to. All of the restaurants we ate at were also really great. We did a day trip to Acadia and Bar Harbor, which was about an hour and a half away. It was a little cold given that it was May, but also a lot less crowded than it would have been in the summer, which we thought was worth it. We’d highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a relaxing and beautiful trip!!

My husband and I are longtime bed and breakfast fans and there are certain stays that we consider unforgettable for the best of reasons, including location, loveliness, cleanliness, friendliness, breakfast quality, and all around comfort and tranquility. The Inn at Sunrise Point now tops our list. We had rainy weather, and without such a beautiful bed and breakfast to spend more time than expected, we might have become glum. But the sunniness of owners MJ and Matt, as well as their staff (shout out to breakfast server Elissa - forgive me if spelling is incorrect), kept us smiling. And MJ really helped us pinpoint worthwhile indoor attractions. We stayed in the Richard Russo Cottage, where the view was stunning. The inn's common rooms were inviting too and include a living room with comfy furniture, a bar, fireplace, and book and DVD collections. If you are looking for a great place to stay in Mid-Coast Maine, look no further. Yes, there are bed and breakfasts in downtown areas, but then your view is tourists walking by, whereas at the Inn on Sunrise Point, the view is bucolic. and what you hear are birds chirping and water lapping at the shoreline. A stay at the In at Sunrise Point is one you will never regret. Thanks so much, MJ, Matt and Staff! You work hard to make the place great and it shows!

My wife and I stayed here 4 nights in October as an early celebration of our 30th anniversary. If you want a very relaxing place with outstanding service this is the place. First of all MJ and Matt were excellent hosts. The breakfasts were excellent and got the entire day started great. The rooms made it very easy to relax and forget work and the business of life. The views from this place are priceless. One morning while eating breakfast there were seals out in the water. Camden is an excellent area to spend a quiet vacation. I think this place would be perfect any time of the year.

We again stayed in the Rachel Carson cottage. It is a beautifully decorated suite, with a king bed looking out the glass doors over Penobscot Bay. It is so relaxing to sit in the morning sun on the attached deck, listening to the waves breaking on the rocks. There is a separate sitting room, with fireplace, mini-fridge and microwave. The bathroom is luxurious and was remodeled last winter. The housekeeping is impeccable! The breakfasts are unbelievable! Freshly baked pastries, fantastic fruit plates, the best French toast we have ever had! Quiche, blueberry pancakes, coffee, tea, a choice of juices-everything you could ever want! MJ and Matt, the owners, are wonderful hosts, so friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed their hospitality so much. MJ has fresh cut flowers all over the rooms and the main house. Just beautiful! We have stayed here several times, but I must say this was visit was just perfect! Even the weather was mild and sunny! We will be back next year!
